See individual episodes. When I got into an argument/debate with several other 86 fans on ANN, I eventually realized (I think) why they thought this was a truly awesome show while it struck me as kind of haphazard and confusing. It was because while I had been posting about the anime alone, they had been referring to both the anime and the light novel that it is based on. Before I started watching I had had no idea whether 86 was based on an manga, a light novel, a video game or something else. To people who had already read the light novel, the plot made perfect sense and was easy to follow. They already knew where it was going. But to people like me, the adaptation from light novel to anime had been rather sloppy. It was news to me that San Magnolia had intended a Holocaust-style total extermination of the 86ers--I don't recall any mention of that taking place within the anime, but apparently that is made clear in the novel. Nevertheless, when compiling a survey of my favorite anime of 2021 at ANN, I couldn't help including 86 as one of my five choices. As with season one the action is exciting and well animated, and the characters are likable. I just wish a little more effort had been employed to make the plot make more sense.
