It turns out that while the Legion attack on Giad was held back, the Legion still has a secret weapon named 'Morpho' (which looks a lot like a WWII era German railroad gun) which will likely win the war there for them unless something isn't done to destroy it (apparently nuclear weapons have never been invented here, since they are no fun at all). As might be expected, the Nordricht squadron gets the job of infiltrating behind enemy lines. The message is that the poor 86ers are being sacrificed yet again, just like back in San Magnolia. But I'm not feeling it; it seems far more likely to me that given what they have contributed to the Giad war effort these five would be considered heroes rather than be viewed with suspicion and contempt. Why do the leaders of Giad fear so much that a mere five foreigners might somehow cause something very bad to happen to their country? This, again, is a recurring theme in both seasons of this show: when you stop and think about it, the plot doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I wonder if the original manga or whatever was this disjointed or if whoever adapted it for TV screwed things up. And these five are teenagers? I had thought they were average aged soldiers. These problems are all the more frustrating because this show also has a number of very good attributes, like the main characters and the exciting action. I very much want to know what will ultimately become of them and of Lena.
