Episode 17.5 is a commentary by three VAs (those playing Shin, Raiden and Frederica) on important scenes of episodes 12-16. But I did not learn much of anything from it, and they seemed to take the attitude that 86 is a truly awesome show without any significant flaws, which is most certainly not true. For example, they gushed about what a moving scene (in part due to their own voice acting) the visit to the monument constructed around the wrecked mecha that the Spearhead pilots had arrived in had been, while I had felt mainly confusion--A monument has already been built to foreigners, in the midst of a major war? I was tempted to quit watching before this special episode was finished, but struggled through.
