This film offers a unique twist on the typical Lupin III TV special formula as Jigen seemingly turns traitor against Lupin in his latest heist of a crystal, that a corporate owner contracts Jigen to get off Lupin for a quantum computer he wants to take control over for personal gain. But there is more beneath the surface regarding Jigen turning traitor that the film dabbles into throughout its 90-minute run. The major Lupin characters all get their roles to fulfill throughout Goodbye Partner, with Zenigata even lending a hand to Lupin as he deals with the corporate owner and some humor even comes into play with Goemon donning disguises at points. The plot with the quantum computer does lead to a good deal of escalation in the plot for the final third of the film and it seemed Goodbye Partner wanted to make some sort of political statement with its less than flattering dabbling into American politics and corporate elitism. But it isn't the first time anime's dabbled into that realm. But that aside, this is still one of the better Lupin III TV specials I seen thanks to trying something with the typical TV special plot formula and is worth a watch if you're a Lupin fan.
