As the first of the Dragon Ball Z movies, Dead Zone is one of the more decent entries offered with it offering more fluid animation than the TV series, a simple plot with enough time to pick up in the conflict with Garlic Jr., and having a finale that makes sense from the series continuity without resorting to deus ex machina as many later films in the franchise have a bad habit of doing. This isn't the last of Garlic Jr. as he makes a return in an anime-only arc following the Frieza saga for the original DBZ anime. Still if you're a diehard DBZ fan, this is one of the more decent offerings for the franchise.
