This Lupin III TV special features Lupin and gang dealing with a Hong Kong crime boss desiring a sunken golden statue figuring found within the sunken remains of the Titanic. What makes this one stick out is that Goemon gets a major role to play out here as he appears to know something about the dragon figurine that he doesn't tell Lupin and Jigen about, leading him to separate from the two for a time as he takes matters into his own hands to settle the matter. The TV special even explores an element to the swordsman's past when it introduces ninja gal and childhood friend Kikyo as his ally for part of the movie. The quality of Dragon of Doom does take somewhat of a hit for the special's finale when the crime boss' plan is revealed, which sounded somewhat ridiculous. Beyond that, the special's resolution is no different from other OVAs, movies and TV specials where Lupin and gang thwart the plans of the mentioned baddie as part of their "thievery code". The movie still carries the standard humor you would expect of a Lupin III title, though it wasn't getting me laughing much this time around as I think I've seen enough from the series to know of the quirks of the cast. Still, this is a decent TV special that is worth checking out if you're a Lupin III fan.

This is one of the better Lupin titles, but it could have been better. Our story starts with Goemon attending a theater telling the story of his ancestor. Lupin and Jigen are waiting and goofing off when ninja's attack. Thus sets our merry band on their latest mission.

This story is good in that Goemon actually plays a vital role in this story. His clan is sworn to protect this golden dragon statue which is made of a metal that is even stronger than the metal that makes up Goemon's sword Zantesu. Together with Kikyo, a girl he trained years before, they set off to protect the secrets of the statue and the scroll that goes with it.

Lupin, Jigen, and Fujiko manage to find the statue in the wreck of the Titanic leading to some patented Lupin humor. Once the bad guys end up getting the statue, the story takes a nose-dive. First, we have the assassin who repeatedly is killed but comes back to life (got to love those duplicates). Then, as soon as the bad guys get the formula for this strongest metal in the world, they build a B-2 stealth bomber in...a few minutes (or so it appears). The standard Lupin laws of physics are unbelievable, but funny. This plane just annoyed the crap out of me as did it's ability to jump from the Pacific Ocean (around Hawaii) to the Atlantic Ocean in a few minutes. That is what dropped this from a "Buy" to a "Rent".

Bottom line: overall, not a bad Lupin title. Lupin fans will enjoy this the most though.
