In this part of the Gundam series the Zions are fighting to free the human colonies on space, while the Federation is fighting them back...and between all that turmoil and Gundams a love story between two enemy soldiers began.

This proved to be quite a disappointing chapter for me to see in the Gundam franchise. I heard that this series was more grounded and down-to-earth than most Gundam titles in depicting the hardships of war faced through the perspective of a soldier. On the surface, the series does appear to do this rather well as soldiers among both Zeon and Federation are shown to be people willingly putting their lives to uphold and protect their loved ones, as well as what they believe in. The members of Shiro's squad have different personalities and motivations for their involvement that make them easy to like, including the guerrilla group that would later tag along on some of Shiro's missions. And for a mid-1990s anime, the visuals aren't that bad featuring well-detailed mecha designs and scenery with moments of fluid animation in tense battles between Zeon and Federation mecha.

Beyond those elements however, 8th MS Team is rather lackluster. While the series does introduce characters with colorful personalities that one can get attached to, a good number of said characters don't get much in the way of fleshing out as we only get enough told about them to hint to what problems they faced yet not digging more into things. The romantic plot involving Shiro and Aina doesn't come off as convincing due to how poorly developed and rushed the pairing comes together and it also creates some inconsistent plot development. The first half of the series featured Shiro gung-ho about taking out the Zeons while the second half features his poor attempts at trying to come off as a pacifist thanks to his second encounter with Aina. The large amount of focus on the two characters in the second half really puts a damper on the quality of plotting and characterization in the series where certain characters turn crazy and corrupt for who knows what reason and the other members of Shiro's group are put on the back burner thanks to the increased focus on Shiro and Aina.

In the end, it looked like 8th MS Team was unsure whether it wanted to be a realistic take on a soldier's perspective in fighting a war or a tragic love story with two lovers on two opposing factions fighting in a war. The series was pulling the former rather well until it tried to focus more on the latter which killed whatever worthwhile quality that came from the first half of the series.

I havn't watched this but wat idiot says that this is part of Gundam Wing. Its nothing like it, in a different time line and breaks the law of Gundam (don't fall in love punishable by death of one or both of the lovers)

This show takes place during the timeline of Mobile Suit Gundam: 0079. I had high expectations for 8th MS Team, unfortunately after a mere 10 minutes of watching this, my hopes were dashed. This is because 10 minutes into the show, is exactly how long it took the main character 24 year old Shiro Amada, to fall in love with Aina Sahalin. Aina happened to be an 'active' member of Zeon, which made her an enemy of Shiro, who fights on the side of the Earth's Federation.

I think the writer failed to depict the circumstances that would cause such a sudden change in Shiro's perspective. When the audience is first introduced to Shiro, he seems very enthusiastic to kick some Zeon ass. Nevertheless, literally 10 minutes later he meets Aina, who happens to try to kill him, and he tends to her injuries. I couldn't understand how a character like Shiro, a pilot hell bent on defeating Zeon, could suddenly throw away his ambition of overpowering Zeon. He essentially becomes a pacifist. The villain of Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th M.S. Team, is Ginias. He's your typical blond, and ruthless Gundam villain. Throughout the show Ginias is determined to complete his highly destructive weapon, the Apsaras, to the point of insanity.

The character designs are average, but the music's pretty good. The soundtrack includes a nice song performed by Chihiro Yonekura called Mirai no Futari ni/The Future for Both of Us.

The dub was done by Animaze, so it's certainly tolerable. Emily Brown voices Aina, and Steve Cannon voices Shiro, and they both did good jobs portraying their characters. As did Lex Lang as Ginias.

The show isn't that long. It's somewhere along 13 episodes, with the short movie, or long episode, Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th M.S. Team - Miller's Report. This Gundam series lacks the depth of some of the others in the saga. It is possible for a short Gundam series to be good, such as Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, or Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Unfortunately Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th M.S. Team isn't, so I recommend renting it.

First of all, I am a Gundam fan. I like the UC timeline, but I found Gundam Wing to be enjoyable as well.
08th MS Team, however, disappointed me. I liked the concept of love torn between political divisions, but the execution was all wrong here. The series didn't have any direction, really, into about mid-way through. Overall, it becomes incoherent and inconsistent.
I also like the idea of showcasing ordinary soldiers during the One Year War. I was hoping for some intense jungle battles with some kind of real message about war. Nope, instead, some eps were a bit more comedic in nature.
I didn't like Shiro Amada. He seemed too much of a gung-ho idiot to be the main character. Besides him, there was no single character I was rooting for.
I'd say watch this for free, but do not waste any money on it.

Stop your grumbling yes I am back and putting in my two cents where their not wanted again. If you havn't seen the series stop reading cause I am about to hand out a semi spoiler.
For a Gundam from the ORIGINAL Gundam univese U.C. vs. A.C. this was disapointingly perky at the end. the final episode set me up for that wonderful tragic end to a good Gundam so well i.e. the best was 0080. and every one lives what is that they Gundam Winged it AAAAAGHHHHH.
Actally it was a pretty good series worth seeing. A little on the short side for my taste with too many lose ends. but we can't have it all right.
Well I am back so get used to it. Later.

A brave young Earth Federation ensign called Shiro Amada is sent to earth with some soldiers to join the 08TH platoon to fight the Zion armies who were still on earth, During his trip for earth they encounter a battle situation that they wouldn't have been mixed up with if not for Shiro's determination to save the GM pilot known as Sanders who was stuck fighting an improved Zaku-II with his damaged GM. Shiro goes to the rescue in a ball mobile suit wich isn't much of a match against a Zaku but he took the Zaku by surprise and saved the Federation pilots` life and falls in love with the (FEMALE) Zion pilot Ayna Sahalin who was piloting the Zaku test type.
Now begins one of the most exciting Gundam stories to date and a truly amazing love story cought in this terrible war between the Zion and the Earth Federation armies. This particular Gundam series takes place on earth and for one is a very realistic series with superb and stunning animation that has the same old Gundam feel to it the characters are full of life and the series has at least 9-10 main characters between the Feds and the Zion. Yes GM's still get their ass kicked and now there are Ground type Gundams called RX-79(G) mass produced 20 or so of these cool Gundams. This series has most of the old mobile suits you're familiar with from the original Gundam series in addition to many cool new ones like the Gundams I just mentioned and Norris' Gouf Custom, Gouf flight types in addition to the secret Zion project created by Ayna's older brother the Apsaras project.

This actually a part of the Gundam saga, but not of Gundam Wing, contrary to what the summary says. Actually, Gundam Wing takes place in a different universe than the rest of the Gundam series.

Shiro Amada is the handsome (yes, I am a fangirl) new captain of the 08th MS Team of the Earth Federation. Although, at first, he doesn't do too well, he eventually earns the respect of his teammates. However, he falls in love with the beautiful Aina, a leader for the opposing Zeon. Torn apart and brought together by war, the two must find a way to save their lives and their love.

08th MS Team is, in my opinion, one of the best Gundam series out there. It tells the story of war from the point of view of the everyday soldiers, not the high-and-mighty leaders. The animation is beautiful and fluid, and the character designs are pleasing to the eye. And, of course, being the hopeless romantic I am, I love the romance between Shiro and Aina, cliche as it is. If you want a mecha series that boasts more than just big robots fighting, then I highly recommend this.

The Earth has become also a battlefield between the Zion and the Federation. A new group of soldiers for the Federation is traveling towards the planet and are witness of a furios fight between two Gundams, the Federation one is losing so a soldier named Shiro Amada goes out to help his fellow soldier, and his ship is destroyed as well as the enemy Gundam, in space he founds the enemy pilot, which turns out to be a girl :), and a very pretty one :D. They had to help each other to survive till they both are rescued, once in Earth they both keep fighting in their own sides, but destinies shall bring them together, and the two of them will find a way to keep their love alive and to end the war.
