The great war between the Earth Federation and the Duchy of Zeon is almost over. At the neutral space colony of Libot, the Federation secretly constructs a powerful new Gundam mobile suit. And in this colony, so far untouched by the conflict, a little boy named Al dreams of mobile suits and space battles... until a Zeon commando team discovers Libot's secret, and changes Al's life forever.

Here was a story that worked rather well for me with the Gundam franchise. Gundam 0080 explores war through the perspective of a young boy named Alfred living his life normally on Side 6. The series takes its time developing Al from a kid naive about the reality of war to one who experiences first-hand the harsh realities of the conflict as he interacts with Bernard and the Zeon spies infiltrating the space colony. Like other prominent chapters of the Gundam franchise, Gundam 0080 isn't afraid to depict the harshness of war depicted through collateral damage to Side 6 during clashes between Zeons and Federation forces, as well as the deaths inflicted upon both civilians and soldiers. In addition, it also paints both factions as having their redeemable characters shown through Fed pilot Christina and Bernard for the Zeons. The presentation does have its rough areas as visuals look rough and outdated, particularly the character designs, while having some decently animated combat scenes between mobile suits. In addition, the upbeat 80s music doesn't really mesh all too well with the serious realities of war that Al comes to face. But if you are looking for a more character-driven chapter to the Gundam franchise, Gundam 0080 is worth a definite look.

This is an excellent Gundam OVA. FOr those who like action, don't watch it since the action in 0080 is limited. Those who love a good story watch it. 0080 has done an excellent job at looking at war through a child's eyes. The ending was splendid and can almost make you cry. As for the mechas I liked Yutaka Izubuchi's mobile suits. This series is home to the Kampfer which is probably one most awesome designs. Overall Gundam 0080 did a great job and has followed the Gundam standard in terms of story and character development. It is not for those who crave action.

Loved this series!! Gundam had never created such a wonderful story line about war and humanity such as this. The characterization between the two opposing sides is great, you do not know who to root for and there really is no bad guys if you think about. Be prepared though, in war there is no good guys or bad guys, there are no heroes or villains, they all die the same.

I have never seen an anime like this one before. This is a great series! The art is not the best but I loved the way they did the characters and how they showed each persons point of view! It really left me thinking! It is the best of the Gundams. (I still like Gundam Wing, but this is much more profound and has more depth then Gundam Wing!). This is one that I would go out and serch for if I was you!

This is the best of the Gundams period this short series dose more in six short episodes then all the rest combined. (including gundam wing) this is one of the best told story's out there I loved it. The lines between good and bad in war have never been so blured. I will warn you though if your depressed or sad this series will not help you out. In fact it will help you get there if your not. A great tragedy!
