The story and logic degraded, as if the author has degenerated from a 10 year old to a 5. This is painfully apparent in politics shown, which plays a significantly more important role than in the first series. We have our princess suddenly ascending to the throne without any hint whatsoever to the fate of the queen in the last season. I have yet to see any series other than GITS deal with politics seriously. If you can't do it, don't, instead of disgusting us with your half-baked ideas of how the world is run. The humor has degraded too. I was really quite amused by the duo the last time round, but this time, I did not get many kicks out of them. Probably due to the explicitness of their fetish. Well, level of raunchiness has definitely gone up too. We get loads of booby scenes, some of which are really quite unnecessary. Siesta is practically throwing herself at Saito. This makes me lose all respect for her. On top of this, the action did not improve either. The last episode is really quite epic, in a very bad sense. So let me deal with it a little here. Half way through, during the break, the fan-sub team wrote this, "WTF? You call this an ending?" I find myself in total agreement at the end. Let's see. Saito ends up being the rear guard instead of Louise. No, I did not say it wrongly. He is not part of the rear guard, he IS the rear guard. Who does he think he is? Come on, against an army of 70,000 men, how is it possible for him to buy even 1 second of time? Let us pretend for a second that he is immortal, and cannot die. Since he lacks an attack that can kill hundreds of men at a time, all that is needed is to send (let us be generous) 1000 men out of 70,000 to keep him busy, while the rest just march right by. One cannot help but wonder how someone can think of such a lame plot, being the concluding episode and all. This season is a real disappoiment with little advances in the overall story. Though it is really good to see Louise and Saito finnally recognizing their feelings, Louise's increasingly uncontrollable violent streaks spoils things. Coupled with huge plot holes and fallacies, this is pretty damn near a watch. Last updated Friday, November 06 2009. Created Friday, November 06 2009. |
Now they've done it. S&M is now out in the open. No longer just a slant, they have taken this a little too far. Right from episode 1 too.||||||||
Rent | 8 | 8 | 7 | 8 | 8 | 6 | Devil Doll | [series:1532#752] |
Flat-chested female Harry Potter with busty rivals, season 2: After Saito chose Louise over returning to Japan, Louise is lovestruck but in denial mode and acting like a jealous beast whereas Saito now is a permanently horny fool lusting for each and every female with big boobs, thus turning the epic fantasy story into an ecchi slapstick show. Henrietta and Colbert get more airtime and background but it's the offish Agnes Chevalier de Milan as the shining star of this season that compensates for most of this decline in quality.There were certain aspects I liked, such as the storyline being followed consistently (despite completely failing in the last episode). All in all, it wasn't great but an entertaining series with a story interesting enough to follow the development, and the relation between both leads growing. Animation didn't change significantly but the new OP song is by far the best song of the whole franchise. A word about Siesta: Yes, she's throwing herself at Saito but she's the only one who truly wants to make him happy, knowing Louise's treatment of the boy very well. She's also on the same social level as Saito amidst all those arrogant aristocrats, and she even has Japanese ancestors. She's simply a nice girl trying her best, and I've been rooting for her in this season since Louise has become such a cruel bitch. Compared to Siesta, I have a lot more issues with Queen Henrietta getting so very intimate with Saito; is she comforting herself for having lost the love of her life this way?

[rewatched 10/12 episodes; Score: 75% = "Rent-"; the first half is barely a "Watch" but the D'Angleterre story alone would have been a "Buy"]

Art, Animation and Character Design The art and animation seemed about the same as season 1. As for character designs, they're pretty much the same as earlier with no improvement. Anies was a cool character. Music The OP was somewhat catchy and somewhat enjoyable... though far from being my taste. I do got to give it a little credit. As for the rest of the music... nothing really worth noting. Episode and Series Stories This time around... I thought the plot seemed a bit week. Actually, there really isn't much of one to speak until nearly 3 parts of the way through. Some the "charm" from season 1 had started wearing off by the end of series. Here, it's no longer charming or cute. There's still some humor to be had though. At least you have plenty of ecchi moments. Overall, there's really nothing here. It's good for a few laughs and some silly antics... but that's about it. Move on. Last updated Tuesday, February 24 2009. Created Tuesday, February 24 2009. |

The plot of season one wasn't very complicated or anything, but at least the characters were charming in a way. I only really gave it a "rent" because I was a fan of season one. I suspect there will be a season three because of how the anime ended. I hope they do better. Last updated Sunday, June 15 2008. Created Sunday, June 15 2008. |
I see I'm not the only one who was disappointed with season two. What happened to the story? Season two focused so much on fan service. Why? We already liked the characters from season one. The biggest disappointment is Saito. Why did they all of a sudden make him a pervert when he wasn't particularly perverted in season one? There felt like there were other inconsistencies in his character as well. I guess they did it because there was no story to mention throughout most of the series. There was some story at the very end, but I wasn't a fan of that either. They could have done something to make the war seem more war-like. I understand they don't want to get too violent, but I would think it's necessary for the viewers to take the war seriously. They didn't bother exploring Saito's true identity. In season one for example, some characters seemed to recognized the emblem on Saito's hand as something special. And the water spirit called Saito Gandf. WHY? That sounds like a story in itself. Will we ever find out? Basically season two takes the story almost no where.||||||||
Watch | 6 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 4 | 5 | Hashim | [series:1532#2688] |
Its like the authors and writers ran out of story, and started putting the same lame jokes into each episode, not to mention the show of breastless fan service (louise) and more erotic mishaps for saito. The second season had very little if and charecter development, and the story was actually shoved into the last 3 episodes to boot! So I'd have to say a big disapointment from a potential winner. Still Id suggest only those people watch it who have a love for the series after season 1, and pray that a season 3 comes out, cause there are to many questions left unanswered! Yea Yea, one looks at my ratings and this anime and thinks 'what the hell'??? Well tell you what guys, season 1 was a blast, original story, comedy action, drama and suspense all rolled into one 12 episode series that left me asking for more! I was so happy when season 2 came out, only to find out the shocking truth.||||||||

The first season of ZnT was a lot of fun and I was delighted to hear that a second season was in the works. Having finally watched an episode, however, I am disappointed. It's hard to put into words, but this isn't the Zero no Tsukaima I remember! Trying to figure out why I felt this way, I reread my review of the original series: Znt I: "The comedy is pretty good, easy to follow yet still witty". Znt II: "Witty", unfortunately, is a word which doesn't particularly seem to apply to the comedy of this version. More appropriate would be "simplistic". ZnT I: "Fanservice played for laughs is always a plus, too." ZnT II: Not when it's done in such a sleazy manner as was the case here. I guess when sexual humor is genuinely funny it's OK and can be labeled "risque"; when it's not--as was the case here--it's just "sleazy". Not just sex but also violence is treated as a joke and I felt distinctly uncomfortable at the thought that I was expected to laugh at this stuff. The S&M scene especially made me want to gag. ZnT I: "ZnT isn't uproariously funny, but it remained reliably amusing, fairly unpredictable, had fun characters, and I was always looking forward to the next episode." Znt II: This version certainly isn't uproariously funny either (I don't recall laughing out loud at all); I guess it could still qualify as "amusing" (though not reliably amusing). Predictability waits to be seen. "Fun characters" might well be a problem here, namely the way Louise and Saito have both been smeared in this episode--she's become a brutal bitch (I know she always had a temper, but this is something else) and he's a pervert. Is this a good way to start a new series? I'll certainly watch the next episode (with my fingers crossed) but based on this introduction, it won't be very high on the list of series which I'd most like to see a new episode of. ZnT I: "my feeling is that this is one that should have been a twenty-sixer!" ZnT II: To be more precise, the makers of ZnT I should have kept going with exactly the same staff instead of making whatever changes led to this version! I know it's dangerous to jump to conclusions based on a single episode, and I don't mean to give the impression that I hate this show. When it was over I didn't feel angry, I just felt... nothing. Unmemorable. Blah. Nobody would have been more pleased than me if this new incarnation had matched the style and quality of the original version. But I can't help feeling distinctly disappointed. Gee, when I sat down here I only planned to type a couple of sentences... P.S: I thought maybe I'd been too hard on this show and watched episode two as well. But it proved so predictable and lackluster that afterwards I wanted to beat my head against a wall. Couldn't anybody see right from the start that there is something wrong with this Prince Wales guy? I am trying to get caught up on a lot of shows, and my conclusion was that ZnT II just isn't worth watching--at least not at the moment. Last updated Thursday, September 27 2007. So, exactly what happened to Saito since the first season to turn him into a total perv?

Rent | Forbin | [series:1532#1573] | ||||||
Honestly, it's a lesser product than the original Zero. No explanations of why the Ring was stolen (again) (Edit: Explained in 3rd series) and while it's a setup for a 3rd season, I'm not as enthused about it. The comedy jokes were old and they really made Siesta a dumb bitch. If this was School Days (TV), Siesta would already have a knife in hand. This whole series revolves around Saito and the girls, Louise, Siesta, and Henrietta. They try to throw a drama in there but it's really just a bunch of lame plots. What did I like about it?
