It all started in September 07, during my school holidays when I had nothing to do. I turn on my tv, and caught episode 20 of Melody of Oblivion. I originally started and dropped it at the totally incomprehensible episode 3. But now I am very interested. I re-watched the whole series, and here I am, an avid anime fan who watched 70 series in two years and still going strong.
Soon after I started watching anime, I was looking for recommendations for good animes. That is when I chanced upon this site, and found the reviews here very insightful and helpful. I began to frequent this site, and finally decided to write some reviews myself.
My character design rates the how realistic/cool/awesome/likable the characters are, not how they look (that goes in art). The rest are pretty self explanatory.
I do assign scores, but they are not very strictly benchmarked with each other, so do not put too much weight on them. Anime, I firmly believe, is a form of art, and thus forcing scores on it would not be too accurate. The most suitable indicator would be how much i liked it, and in materialistic term, if I would be willing to buy/rent it. So that should be the primary indicator of how good an anime is for me. Anyway, a Buy is definitely worth your time, and could make it into your collection. A Rent is an enjoyable watch, but it probably does not leave much impact. A Watch should not be something you spend much time on, unless you decide that your taste is vastly different from mine (which is very possible). Avoid is rarely given out by me, and an anime has really got to touch some raw nerves to get there.
Ps. Dubs are the enemy.

Baccano! |
Buy |
Baccano is Italian for noise, but light novelest Narita translates it as "stupid commotion" in the literary source of this series. Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction are mashed together for a world straight out of the movies. |
