Now that the events in FMP are over, Sosuke and Chidori are once again classmates in high school. However, Sosuke hasn't lost any of his military training and starts things off by blowing up his shoe locker after discovering someone had been in it and may have booby trapped it (a girl had left him a love letter in the locker). From there, it just gets better as the series parodies various elements of Japanese life or just has the two in wacky school-related adventures. Will Chidori and her trusty harisen be able to whack Sosuke into a normal man she can have a relationship with? Or will Chidori become more like Sosuke and become a military babe he would really love?

Fumoffu is what Full Metal Panic does best: humor focused on Sousuke relying on his military training too heavily in response to common situations faced by high school students. While FMP did have some focus on this humor, there was more focus on the action. But here in Fumoffu, it's all about the comedy this time around. Put a love letter in Sousuke's locker? He'll blow it up thinking it's sabotage. Challenge him to a fight for Kaname's affections? You'll get tazered. And Kaname isn't too far away to knock sense into Sousuke with her harisen thus their funny character chemistry is intact for Fumoffu. You can even expect an appearance from Sousuke's military support in two later episodes with Tessa, Kruz, and Melissa becoming a part of normal life for a short time. The comedy highlight to Fumoffu for me though was Bonta-kun, Sousuke's way of fighting crime in a couple episodes of the series. KyoAni managed to maintain the high-quality animation of FMP for Fumoffu thus there's plenty of color and visual detail with the characters and scenery.

If you wanted to see more of Sousuke's military antics as a high school student, then Fumoffu will definitely be worth your time.

I guess if you have read any of my reviews, i tend to not give low marks, but when i make it 10s across the boards, it just means i absolutely loved it!!! and Full Metal Panic is right there...I think the interaction of Souske and Chidori was worth the price of admission, but when you throw in mecha, a sub, a few more cool looking anime chicks, and bad guys that are actually troublesome and I am hooked! This is an anime you cannot miss...

(Six episodes watched):

The best part of Full Metal Panic, at least for me, was the hilarious personality of Sosuke. He's a highly trained and disciplined professional soldier, yet completely clueless about the social lives of ordinary teenagers his age. Thus, Fumoffu (apparently a word which amusement park mascot Bonta-kun likes to use) was tailor-made to deliver more of this precious, unique style of humor without diluting it with less exceptional action. Actually, there is a good deal of action here, except now it's played for laughs in a slapstick manner. Kyoto animation did a great job of animating fast-moving action in a hilarious way. One minor problem--maybe because there is so much Sosuke humor--is that it seems slightly overdone, and at times I get the impression that he's stupid rather than naive. That's unfortunate, but doesn't keep this from being a hilarious show. I'm looking forward to the thin pack collection that ADV is supposed to release soon.

My favorite line: "Don't come to a mutual understanding with nothing but strange noises!" --Chidori

fumoffu similar to excel saga it does'nt have a storyline and has the extreme weird comedy such as, a episode about a group of ruby team who is too scared of killing a little fly and after they were trained by sosuke, they all became notorious killers. If you like comedy you have got to watch this.

I'm excited and pleased. I just received my Newtype mag and this time they had a Dvd promo of Full Metal Panic Fomuffo episode 1 and I want to go out buy it and get more episodes. The story line is great and cast of characters funny and so real. The two main ones are there who were in the last Full Metal Panic and again brought into danger but a good ending. This has good animation and character design and I loved it. This episode is Kaname getting Sosuke out of another scrape. This time it is a contest because they don't have enough space for the clubs meeting. Each club must have a number of the opposite sex to win. Sosuke makes a bet if He can't get one girl to come he will swim naked in this body of water. At first he joins the photo club and they kidnap some girls and Kaname catches them and blows up. But then he helps this elderly lady get a present for her grandson and Kaname has a change of heart. She goes home and changes into her moms Kimono and sosuke doesn't recognize her nor anyone else. But again Sosuke does something to warm your heart and you can't blame Kaname for helping him out again.

I actually saw this before the original Full Metal Panic! It's not absolutely necessary to see the earlier series first, though it does help to explain some in-jokes. The main thing is that Fumoffu is one of the funniest things I've seen recently. It literally made me laugh until my stomach hurt. (I think my favorite episode was probably the "haunted hospital" one.) Like Chidori, I can't decide whether to hug Sosuke or beat him senseless. Maybe both at once. Anyway, this is well worth watching!

Hehe...This series was great.
Go Go Tessa!

Edit : R1 Watched, it's just as good as the Japanese version! I can wait for Bonta Kun to come out. At first I was wary because of ADV's previous releases of Madlax and Maburaho but this one was great! Now on to their next release of Elfen Lied

The first series Full Metal Panic! and the sequel Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu are both based on novels written by Gatoh Shoji. Theres a genre named Light Novels in Japan which aims at young readers, and the Full Metal Panic series has been one of the best known titles of it since its first publication in 1998. So far the series consists of 5 long pieces (6 volumes) plus many shorties (published in additional 7 volumes). The long pieces are supposed to compose a grand novel which shows till the end of the story of Chidori, Sosuke and Mythril. At this moment the 8th volume of shorties is expected to be released in April 2004, and also its 6th long piece has begun as a monthly serial on Dragon Magazine published by Fujimi Shoboh co.
The animation series Full Metal Panic! is based on the first three long pieces and a few shorties, while Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu is based only on shorties. Gatoh's long pieces have relatively serious outlines while shorties are pure comedies, and thus the basic differense of the two animation series. Concerning Fumoffu, Gatoh himself wrote a few scenarios (for his first time) and made those episodes even better than the original novels. Switching from GONZO to Kyoto Animation resulted in a huge success as well.(GONZO isnt bad itself, but they're better when dealing with more meccha oriented stories.)
No doubt Fumoffu is one of the best comedy animations Ive ever watched. Something like a miracle, starts at its max speed on episode 1 and with no slow down runs through 17 episodes, including the unaired ep2 and 3.
Unfortunately, no confirmed facts that another sequel would come up. Fans in Japan talks and wishes about a 3rd series based on the 4th long piece and some shorties, but its merely talks atm. Nevertheless FMP has quite a good reputation in both novel and anime, so might come true some day, our dream.

This may be one of the funniest anime series ever and certainly is the funniest I've ever seen. I can't wait to purchase this when it comes out on DVD! Chidori and Sosuke return to school from Full Metal Panic and the entire series deals with thier school life. Because this sequel is so detached from the original, you don't have to have seen it to enjoy this. However, you will enjoy this more IF you know the characters and their motivations. And just so the original series isn't completely forgotten, episodes 11 and 12 see the return of Sosuke's former comrades including the kawaii young captain who becomes an exchange student to be with Sosuke for a week...much to Chidori's chagrin. But it provides excellent humor for us!

While this series is never serious, it is interesting to see the character growth on both Sosuke's and Chidori's part. Sosuke still brings his weapons to school, but he primarily uses non-lethal weapons to stun or knock out his opponents. For her part, Chidori seems to be on a mission to train the man she's going to marry to be more like a normal guy rather than a military one. Yet Sosuke's influence is upon her as before the end of the series, she's making some Sosuke-like remarks.

There's plenty of parody humor here, but with all parody humor, you have to know the source being parodied. For example, if you haven't seen "Full Metal Jacket", you won't get a couple of parody references. Other humor includes the slapstick humor, especially with Chidori whacking Sosuke with her harisen and the typical humor of Sosuke doing what he does best -- win at all costs.

There is a downside. If you were looking for answers to questions left in Full Metal Panic, you are out of luck. Except for the cameos near the end of this series, there's nothing even referencing the original series. I was hoping for something along those lines, but there's nothing. And if you don't count Bonta-kun, there's no mecha either.

The music is good but the art and animation are top-notch. They've improved upon the original series' art and animation in my opinion. Visually, this thing is really good and proof of what computers in the hands of good artists/animators can do.

Bottom line: if you enjoyed the humor elements of Full Metal Panic, you will absolutely love the non-stop humor in Full Metal Panic ~Fumoffu~. I can't wait to buy it!

It seems there are 15 episodes. So far I've only seen the first 5.
Sagara is back in school. There are no meccha's around (which is an improvement) but Sagara is still the military otaku he used to be.
In this serie, Sagara has to deal with a girl writing him loveletters (which he dutifuly blows up, because there might be a bomb in it), he makes his homework (poetry), Chidori gets kidnapped (or, so believes Sagara), the class has to make an artwork (which ends in total mayham) and Chidori meets an old love and goes on a date with him.
All stories are quite humourous, and refreshing after seeing the original episodes. Sagara has adopted a new weapon: a grenade launcher with dud grenades which he uses to knock out his oponents. Watching him handle it (especially in episode 3 and 5) is really funny.
It's not necessary to see the previous seazon first, but it might help explaining Sagara's actions.
Best character: Sagara Sasuke (he's developed comparing to the first seazon.)
Best moment: episode 2. Sagara has forgotten Chidori's notebook and tries to explain it to her. She takes it quite calmly (at first.) I nearly wet my pants watching this over and over.
Edit: after seeing some more episodes, it's definitely a buy! The episode with the rugby team is hilarious. I like Chidori more and more. Finaly a female leading character that doesn't act cute or in desperate need for her hero to come help her all the time!
