Koushi Inuzuka is a smart high school student who aims to become a public prosecutor. Unfortunately for our good guy, he was born into a martial arts family whose head (ie his father) only knows one language: violence. When Koushi was still a baby, his father made a pact with his biggest rival to marry Koushi to his opponent-turned-friend`s daughter. The union of the two blood lines is supposed to bring forth Earth`s strongest martial arts clan.

Skip forward: Koushi is in high school, oblivious to the marriage arranged for him at his birth. Enter Momoko Kuzuryuu: sugar bomb, airhead, loli martial arts artist and Koushi`s self-proclaimed bride (the strongest on Earth, no less). Her wish for consummating their marriage meets with Koushi`s square refusal - as he has absolutely no desire to get it on with someone who looks like she could be his little sister, not to mention that he doesn`t have the foggiest idea who she actually is.

Meanwhile, a war has broken out between the martial arts families. For Koushi, this means that numerous fighters are out to challenge him. As if that weren`t bad enough, our protagonist also has a fight phobia due to a traumatic incident that took place in his childhood. Now it`s up to Momoko and her superhuman fighting skills to protect her "husband." Will the two sweethearts survive the trials and tribulations ahead of them? More importantly, will Momoko get her way and have a baby from Koushi?

Based on a seinen manga by Shinobu Ohtaka, serialized in Young Gangan.

I thought this was going to be an all out comedy at first. But after getting through a few episodes... I was off a bit.

Art, Animation and Character Design
At first, I just couldn't get over the little buggy-eyed Momoko. While the rest of the art was pretty good, Momoko.... didn't look to appealing. At least it bothered me to hell. It wasn't until after about episode 3 that I finally got use to it and moved on. As for animation, it seemed pretty smooth at times.... and other times a slight bit choppy. Character designs weren't too bad.... except that temporary complain about our Momoko.

Music
There wasn't really anything noticeable here. The OP... I can barely remember as something that barely past as acceptable.

Series and Episode Story
This is definitely a harem. I mean "harem" with an uppercase H.... no, and uppercase A.... oh what the hell, completely uppercased. It's a fierce rivalry between the girls to be with Koushi. And wow, it's quite ecchi too... primarily on the suggestive side as opposed to visual. As for the plot, there was actually something there! As it progressed, the episodes slowly built towards a plot that actually concluded this anime pretty well. Near the last few episodes, things were being revealed that tied things together and the battles go more and more serious. At least the ending was done well and satisfied me. The only real issue I had with this was that Momoko's fierce attempts at winning over Koushi amounted to nothing in the end. He was as cold-hearted and unreceptive as ever.

Overall, it was a good series. It's one of the better ones out there

Final review soon...

I like it already. I love Momoko's futile attempts to "bed" the main lead. Their is alot of different elements working for this title - for instance, how he quit martial arts because of his embarrassing past that also led him to meet with such a cute little girl who is dedicated to him (body and soul). This story can talk the talk, now let me see if it can walk the walk...

Yup - this one is a keeper alright. After ep 4, I need no further conviction. this is one seriously funny anime and its only getting better with each ep. I'm going to watch this one straight through!

The episodes are so funny/ecchi that I can remember all of them by number. I won't forget ep 5 anytime soon as it was the most ecchi episode yet. It was extremely suggestive, in everyway you could possibly imagine. The only thing is that when you have such a tall (for 17 year old) main lead and children for his supporting characters, there is no way to avoid the lolicon theme even though they are practically his age! Iroha is 15 (two years younger) and I assume that Momoko is also 17 due to her reference at the end of ep 5. They are his age but are drawn to resemble kids! It makes no sense to me at all. This isn't really lolicon, not that I care for it to be or not. I guess it just wouldn't be as funny if it was normal sized women. I know the Momoko role can only be pulled off because she is a kid.

I hope for more episodes like 7. That was a very important/interesting episode to see some emotions starting to find their intended marks...

Sanae has a tough role in this story. Poor girl...

Ep 11 wasn't that ecchi. Contrary to some opinions, this wasn't a big deal to me. Of course I had to make sure nobody would see me watching it because it would certainly cause a misunderstanding but the ep itself was nothing to be afraid of. Though it was close, she never went all the way and they blocked (never drew in) the most important part so I said "who cares" after I saw it. Ecchiest ep still goes to 5.

The harem is fierce in this story as all the girls want to be with the main lead but they know he can only be with Momoko! The pain is excruciating because they know they can’t even show their feelings to him at all. The normal harem usually has the girls fighting over the main lead and he develops feelings for all of them in a way and has dates with each of them or spends alone time with them, giving each girl a chance to prove their worth and such. Then the main lead has to choose one but this anime has all but one of the girls suppressing their emotions and it hurts like hell to see them this way. Something is going to give eventually as the human heart can only take so much punishment.

I have to mention ep 12 as well because it was unbelievably funny. Every character had a role to play and contributed to the laughs. Any scene where Iroha and the main lead are alone together is automatically the best! She almost caved into her emotions. (I thought Momoko caught them for a second there and I almost had a heart attack).

Best quote: Infect me! (source: Iroha) LOL

Ep 13-16 have all been stall episodes. Some things could have worked but in the end, they did nothing but stall to pass the time! The new teacher should have stuck around a little while longer, the haunted house ep was the worst one yet, Saigou's side story was cool but it was another attempt to keep the story from the lead pair, and Momoko's attempts to close the gap between herself and her man failed miserably. I don't know what the writer's were thinking but they are almost out of time to kick the story into gear. With only 6 eps left, I’m beginning to worry that the story will never hit its climax and if it does, it'll be too late to end the story in a reasonable/plausible manner. It needs to stop stalling and get the show on the road before its too late and we have another failed anime (the laughter throughout the series won't finish the story by itself). Only ep 7 and 16 came close to actually pushing the story in the right direction but they both missed their chances though 7 did way better than 16. Instead of the lead pair coming together, they remain in a "standstill" (Onegai Teacher) and it doesn’t seem like they will ever come out of it. Please..Please..Please.. Don't screw this title up...

Ep 17 was another stall but the ending might be what i've waiting for.

Ep 18 was another stall but it was very funny none the less.

Ep 19 was finally what I wanted to see! It was perfect though excruciatingly painful to watch though I knew this would happen one way or another and with the events of this episode, I can already tell just how this series is going to end. It's obvious and clear as day to me. I've been watching anime too long not to be able to predict this one.

Ep 20 was something else entirely. Ecchi, fighting, and foreshadowing. Great stuff...

Ep 21 was incredibly serious in everyway. The fighting, the truths that were finally revealed, and the one big life lesson for women in love. I thought I was watching another show for a second there. When the episode ended, I (emotionally speaking) awoke like I was in a dream or something. It was that good of an episode! It's a catastrophe that this title had so many stall episodes because this title was nearly perfect in all the areas it originally set out to conquer. Not even a regular 26 episode-long series would stall that much but this title is missing 4 eps (still wondering about that) and stalled like there was no tomorrow. Tsk Tsk Tsk... What a way to go! One ep left to go out with a bang I guess...

And...... <FYTIALRFEMY342N.MEDIUM.gif> (supposed to be a bomb explosion there) is exactly how this series finished off. Exactly as I predicted, the main lead never shows any feelings towards Momoko and their relationship remains the same throughout the entire story even after her countless advances and saving his miserable life on a daily basis! To make matters even worse contrary to the intro scenes, the main lead never embraces his martial artist spirit and never gets a chance to "cut loose" and become a man worthy of Momoko's faith and sacrifice! Not even in the final episode do the writer's even try to hide the fact that this story had some serious unfinished business and closure issues but this blunder is also a blessing in disguise. The story ending events were left wide open for a sequel though I wouldn't bet on it!

One thing to mention though - I had tears in my eyes while watching Momoko unleash her unholy rage upon the final enemy for what happened to the male lead. It was a great scene and I rewatched it 5 times over!

The perfect series score this title would've got was reduced to an above average 7 score due to serious story gaps and the perfect episode score this title would've got was reduced to a 7 as well due to all the stall episodes. You reap what you sow is all I have to say...

Analysis : 15 Episodes watched.

  • Comedy : High

  • SciFi : Low / Med
  • Ecchi : HIGH HIGH HIGH
My gosh, even the OP of this is extremely ecchi. The mid scene where all 3 girls of the harem show off their breasts sorta give away what kind of series this it. Loli and Ecchi!

After watching 3 and 4 I am going to put this on my 'MUST WATCH' list. Zero No Tsukaima is over and I needed a good Harem Comedy.

So far we have seen 2 of the harem in action. 3 and 4 Hint that the 3rd girl is also special (as well as super endowed) and I can't wait for #5 to watch.

  • 5 The Onichan Episode : Was another funny show! The snake versus the dragon. And what happens to Koushi during their big fight was hilarious! Too bad we only get a glimpse of the 3rd girl again.
  • 6 and 7 - We learn about Momoko's past and another assassin, from the Tiger clan.
  • 9-10 - We learn about the Kamen girl.....and what a sad life she lives :(
  • 01.04 - OMG I just watched 11. This thing is so ECCHI I don't recommend it to ANYONE. But I'll still watch it, it's very funny.
  • 01.20 - Episode 13 watched, and was a disappointment! It was REALLY DUMB! It only contained once piece of info that moved the plot forward but WTF was the writers thinking? The turtle? It's not even part of the 12 families.
  • 01.30 - 14 was a bit of filler. Not all that exciting...
  • 02-12 - 15. About time we get back to the main story. It's normally about the bully Saigou san but it's follows the main plot. A VERY good story.
This was serialized in a Seinen magazine? It's 90% of the way to hentai. It just needs some real sex.

You know I'm enjoying this one way too much. It really reminds me of Girls Bravo without all the nudity.

Rent Stretch [series:1459#628]
(All episodes watched):

As soon as I read the basic synopsis of this show, I knew it was a must-see title for me. I waited nine days for an Avi-format fansub to be released, fearing one never would be, and never knowing if this would be a cleverly risque show or a sleazy Rizelmine ripoff. Thankfully, I found neat touches like Koushi's desire to be a prosecutor, and his father being a renowned martial artist, lift this series to a respectable and enjoyable plane. Episode three, about a trip to the zoo, left me feeling rather anxious about how this series would play out, as the comedy verged on brain-dead at times, and without some serious wit Momo's continual pleas with Koushi to have sex with her were more annoying than amusing. Being introduced to the basic absurdity of the show's premise was fairly interesting, but what would be done with it now that that thrill has worn off? Perhaps the introduction of some new characters (who are shown in the OP sequence) would pick things up. Thankfully, episode four was much better, and, sure enough, involved a new character emerging (actually, she was in number three, but didn't do much). When a gag about a technique Koushi uses to memorize laws came back near the end, I realized I was in the presence of comic brilliance. This show got off to a rocky start, but seems to have hit it's stride since then. At the halfway point I find myself confident that each new episode will be fun, and glad that this will be a 26-er (actually a 22-er). Episode 14 was especially worthy of mention, being a novel and genuinely funny take on the obligatory ghost episode. I wandered away for several months (largely because the episodes I'm watching are only available in MKV mode), but now that I'm back I'm pleasantly surprised at how silly and fun the episodes are. Considering the seemingly naughty premise of this show, it's actually rather well written. Thankfully, Momoko pleading with Koushi to consumate their relationship seldom happens and the series is harmlessly fun.

Towards the end the plot to assasinate Koushi results in a rather absurd series of martial arts matches--it's as if the series tries to get serious (which is probably a mistake), but only does it half-heartedly, retaining a certain amount of comedy. But it's hard to take seriously, for example a swordfight in which dozens of contestants are repeatedly knocked to the ground yet somehow not a single drop of blood is ever shed. The animation of the combat scenes could have been better, but the artwork is really nice, what with numerous characters visible in each frame, and all in realistic, well drawn poses. This plot twist isn't a complete disaster, since it has it's moments and there are some meaningful thoughts expressed by the characters, but it does seem out of place when compared to the rest of the series. There is a semblance of closure at the very end, i.e, hints of what will become of some of the characters afterwards, but not enough. I can't help feeling disappointed with the way things turn out. It took me so long to watch the series as a whole that I'm at a loss to summarize it; I guess my original impression is still appropriate: Sumomomo is a mixed bag--sometimes great, sometimes not so great. Definitely worth at least a watch, more likely a rent.

My favorite line: "My common sense is crumbling!" --Koushi

Rent Jan-Chan [series:1459#967]
Having seen four episodes so far, I can only share a loud - YEESHH!! ... Is this ever a very loli series!! (And I am adding fanservice, ecchi and harem as additional keywords for this series) And it does not stop! Episode 4 even kicks it up a notch!

This series takes on the taboo of the lolicon fetish and just milks it for as much scandalous and outrageous humor as possible. Momoko is as charming as Dokuro-chan of Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan with the same innocent lack of modesty and predilection for gratuitous violence.

I read somewhere that this series is trying to set a record for thinly veiled euphemisms referring to that intimate coupling behavior! (They are NOT allowed to say ‘lets have sex’ on Japanese broadcast TV due to censorship, but having a loli jumping up and down on the bed wearing almost nothing is OK … errrrr!)

Getting past these issues, I found a lot of humor and silliness in this series, and I looking forward to the next episode.
Momoko’s martial arts teacher and father tells her that she reached the peak and limits of her skills, but she is not yet strong enough to defeat him. Being the sole heir to their family name, she will have to accept responsibility of marrying the strongest man and having the strongest children to carry on the tradition. He has already arranged for her marriage to the son of an equally strong rival family.

So with her father’s blessings, off she goes to start a new family with her beloved and unwilling Koushi.

But Koushi having turned his back on his family’s tradition, is no longer practicing martial arts and has chosen to set his sights being a public prosecutor. He walks around carrying a copy of the law book, quoting it (like biblical scripture) as a solution to any problem.

But keeping him constant company is Momoko, the violent loli-amazon willing to jump into any situation to protect her precious Koushi.

Summary of the first four episodes.
  • (E1) – Introduces the main characters - as Momoko moves into Koushi’s life, his house, and tries to move into his bed.
  • (E2) – Momoko has transferred into Koushi’s high school, more specifically into his homeroom. The PE teacher becomes resentful of all of the (female) attention that Koushi is ‘stealing’ from him and challenges Koushi to a number of athletic events.
  • (E3) – Momoko’s father sends word that the twelve martial arts Zodiac families are on the verge of going to war and that a number of assassins are currently targeting Koushi as a preliminary strike. Meanwhile, Momoko is excited at going on her first picnic/date with Koushi at the zoo.
  • (E4) - Two assassins who have targeted Koushi begin to move, with unexpected results.
