Attending Tokyo University together as they promised each other... now that Keitaro and Naru have finally made their dream come true, what is going to happen next? Another Naru punch, of course - only this time 'indestructable' Keitarou is injured severely! With a broken leg he can't attend classes for weeks, and as he's missing the first term anyway, a new dream evolves in his head: Travelling the world together with Seta-san!

Naru, unable to take her own feelings for granted or tell Keitarou about them, has to face her boy leaving for several months. But even worse, a new dorm manager takes over control at Hinata-sou - a girl named Kanako who presents Naru with a stunning revelation: She's Keitarou's stepsister - and she claims to be the girl of his promise! And Kanako has quite a number of tricks up her sleeve...

Will Keitarou ever return to the dorm? Will Kanako succeed in stealing away Keitarou from Naru? Will the border between reality and dreams become blurred at Hinata-sou once again? Will Naru be honest about her feelings at last? Will Shinobu-chan win the most important jan-ken-pon of her life? Will Motoko attend Toudai as well? Will the insurance cover the damage at the end of this series? See for yourself!

[OVA, 2002, 3 episodes (referred to as "episodes 28-30", ending this anime series), 29 min]

There's some more story about the continuation after this part, but only in a radio drama on one of the soundtrack CDs, as the manga goes on for two more volumes after this OVA's content. Just as a note, in the Love Hina Endless Pack (All the DVD's) it comes with a bonus Drama CD that contains Manga 14's finale]

Although it's not as fun and interesting as the 1st Love Hina, it's nevertheless still a Buy for me. Where Love Hina was a "FUN", LH Again is a "fun". The animation was about the same for me. The music was nothing special but better than many and the episode stories dropped ever slightly. However, with all that said, There's still plenty of laughs and the infamous, or rather, famous "Naru Punch"!

As Devil Doll had mentioned, don't watch this one until you've watched the previous one(s). You'll appreciate this sequal more so if you follow this up from the 1st one... and possibly the Xmas special. Some people had mentioned that the incest part did nothing for the series. I think it it made it more interesting. You have to have an open mind to appreciate such a "touchy" topic. Either way, it was enjoyable.

Overall, not as good as the first, but still worth the buy and time.

This last anime series of Love Hina is the lowest point of Love Hina in animated format. The fan service of the manga is back in full force for this OAV as this seemed to take importance in comedic gags over everything else. Love Hina Again, just like the Spring Special, manages to give me enough of a storyline where I don't slap on an Avoid rating for it. In this case, the OAV finally creates a resolution for the Keitaro/ Naru relationship.

Even with the storyline, there were a number of noticeable problems I found with the OAV. As manga readers should notice, many of the events from volumes 9 and 10 were taken out thus leaving plenty of other plot elements unresolved. Nothing is made clear about Seta and Haruka's relationship. There's no depth with Shinobu's puppy-love crush on Keitaro. There's no depth given to Keitaro and Naru's growing relationship before his departure with Seta. Not to mention the biggest plot element which fueled the entire series: who is Keitaro's promised girl? So much potential development that these two volumes explored was left out of the anime.

The presence of Kanako in Love Hina Again is a double-edged sword. On one hand, she forces Naru to come to terms with her feelings for Keitaro alongside pressure from the other Hinata Inn residents. On the other hand, there was no reasoning behind her love for Keitaro (being his step-sister) thus adding an element of incest to the anime just to force a new love triangle into the series with Kanako/ Naru/ Keitaro. The idea of using incest as a comedy element is a big turn-off for me as it isn't exactly a subject to be poked fun of too lightly.

One positive about this anime is the artwork. The characters look more closely drawn like their manga counterparts and they have a brighter appearance than the darker look they had in previous anime versions of the series. This lush color also went into the scenery and backgrounds making them look more vivid than the drab colors of the TV series.

Watch this OAV just to see the resolution to the entire Love Hina series. As I explained in my review of the Spring Special, I only seen this and the Spring Special a few times and never watched them since.

WHOA!!! Love Hina Cast and More Fan-Service!!! Sign me up!!! Well at least that is what i thought...In fact, i don't like incest so the whole Kanako thing just didn't jive with me...The only reason to watch this is because you have went through episodes 1-27 and need a conclusion to the story...I don't like how all the characters were drawn...even though it is subtle, they are different...Keitaro looks much older with those grandpa glasses, i don't think it looks cool...On a positive note, we do have a happy ending...

I like this over the Christmas Special and Spring Special. Why?.........fan service and the ecchiness, turned to the max, Woooooooo!

Anyways those things worked for my, but the conclusion didn't, it was alright I suppose but still felt very open. Is it me or after 25 episodes, 2 specials and another 3 OVAs - we get an ending like this, nothing is actually resolved apart from the obvious one, but it it really? But after watching this final series, something didn't work. Introducing a new character, who also happens to have the hots for Kei, they could of just used Mutsumi.

And of course that repugnant b*tch Naru still can't control her violent temper, I mean how a guy could go for a chick that beats the crap outta him, I'd never know....unless he's a masochist.

You see that's the thing that I can't understand. If there were 2 beautiful girls, which one would you go for? - Mitsumi, kind, innocent, clumsy and would 'give it' to Kei if he wants it, plus admits she loves him......And of course the vile Naru who refuses to admit she loves Keitaro, but rather beats the crap outta him for being preverted, who we all know is just a clumsy retard and his bad luck gets him into these awkward situations. But of course Naru is too stupid to know that.

Well I brought this so I give it a buy just for the 'girl on girl' action in episode one.

Yeah it was ok I guess... The animation is brilliant which is what started me watching it at first as well as being the continuation to the Love Hina series. The main problem with this series is it is VERY short and doesn't answer alot of questions. Although I haven't read the manga and cannot give much of a plot explanation, I can say that as a viewer this anime was good and bad. An up-side is the characters don't change much in personality and traits.
It did answer the question of who was the girl Keitaro promised to, which was the main question on any Love Hina watcher's minds, however the series is unpredictable in theme and plot, though that's not necessarily a downside. I did not enjoy it as much for it having a clever plot or an insightful message, as a matter of fact it lacks these things to a great extent. It is one of those animes a viewer would definetly enjoy for liking the characters or being a Love Hina fan.
For any plot that the Love Hina series might have had was generally thrown out the window as were alot of the questions. It revolved alot around fan service and fill for an unanswered plot series that was decided in the last minute to continue.
I pretty much only own this for its animation and because I'm a fan of the characters and the fact that I enjoyed the ending.
Another aspect I must mention is the fact that Naru, throughout the series has a very slow painful process in admitting she has feelings for Keitaro. In Love Hina Christmas Special and Love Hina Spring Special this matter is attended to by Naru quite enthusiastically admitting she has feelings for Keitaro.
This is definetly not a series that I enjoyed for its story but more for it's character's extravegant personalities and charm.
A definite watch for Love Hina fans.

This is a definite improvement over the Love Hina series (which had little plot considering its 24 episode length.) Only complaint is that the ending was a little uncertain (but if you read the manga, it'll be clear.)

I did not enjoy this very much at all.
I would have wanted something unique after watching all episodes of Love Hina, but no, if I look at it on its own, it will make people go bonkers wondering wtf is going on.
I kinda enjoyed it as an addon to the anime Love Hina, but that is about it. I did enjoy the manga though. :\
I like Ecchi but looking at Hentai and very Ecchi anime, this looks like diluted coca cola.

[Score: 78% = Rent. Recommended Romantic Comedy animes: Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi, Aa! Megami-sama! TV, REC]
  • Drama: Med (there's one big question waiting for an answer, finally)
  • Comedy: Med (less than the series)
  • Action: Med (hardly any fighting but lots of ruckus and chasing)
  • SciFi: Med (Hinata-sou provides some really surreal effects, plus a character with superhuman abilities)
  • Ecchi: Med/High (two scenes are over the top)
While watching this one is absolutely useless when you don't know Love Hina and the Christmas Special, it is a must-know if you do - just think of this one as episode 28-30.
Featuring some matured Keitarou you haven't seen in the original series, and a Naru you know oh so well (who absolutely is the main character here), you see the story finally proceed to the point where we all wanted it to get to.
Episode 1 (Kanako) is filled with fan-service and annoying scenes. Episode 2 (Keitarou) will then set the scenario for the Grande Finale, which will then happen in Episode 3 (Naru); thus you need to watch these in a row and just endure the first one. I have moved my episode related review parts into the episode section.
All in all, Love Hina Again is a worthy extension of the original series and I wouldn't want to have missed it, although it doesn't match the series highlights (episode 21-24 and the Christmas Special which were both written especially for the TV version and worked best there). Still, the final showdown of this series is awesome, in terms of the fantasy stuff as well as in terms of character relations (so there is our beloved Shinobu-chan finally battling Naru on the same level, eh? "This was slow" being my favourite text line of the whole series - the idea for the jan-ken-pon is taken from a totally different story in manga volume 10 chapter 83 that sadly isn't ever told in the anime).

If you are still looking out for more, there is the soundtrack, which provides some audio-only version of one additional episode after the end of Love Hina Again. An English summary of this stuff can be found in the WWW.
And then, there are the Mangas! The Spring Special covers the content of Manga volume 8; Love Hina Again is basically the (condensed) content of Manga 11 and 12. This means that the content of two complete manga volumes 9 and 10 is left out at the beginning of this OVA! The time when Keitarou broke his leg and wondered what to do next in his life, perhaps the most important time of his relation with Narusegawa, isn't covered at all in the anime (some part of Manga volume 9 made it into Love Hina - Motoko's Choice but many important events are missing completely). And after the OVA stuff there are still two more manga volumes: Manga volume 13 is handled in the Love Hina soundtrack album, but the story of the final Manga volume 14 is never told in the anime version. And these two volumes will give you quite some answers, about promises and cherry blossoms blooming ...

Keitaro finally gets accepted into Todai and suddenly feels like following Seta who does excavations around the world.
In the first episode, we see the new character Kanako. Hated by everyone...Naru tries to chill down the atmosphere with capabilities.
In the second episode, a Keitaro comes back...things gets complicated for Naru as she knows Kanako is the promised girl and Kanako is getting closer to Keitaro.
In the third episode, Naru finally expresses her feelings and things gets finally back to normal as they live a happy life!
Basically, that's the main resume without spoiling everything (I hope so...). You might wanna watch these OAVs since it finally decides the fate of Naru and Keitaro.

can't believe these short 3 series
are OVA...
well like Kenshin OVA(Seisouhen),
OVA should end and finish the rest
of the story that was left from the
original episodes...
(btw ep.25 didn't do any good either)
story about motoko at the end? nonsense
Question: how come there's no review section for the Love Hina: Hentai? well I guess probably none of you guys heard of it but it really exists like evangelion: hentai except for the fact
that the drawing is a lot better.
and if you get a chance to watch Lova Hina: Hentai, don't watch dubbed one...
it ruins the entire hentai...just watch
subtitled version

Well firstly this is an ova , which generally means that it was never meant for television which translates into a higher budget then the tv and can mean that its different in a lot of ways from the tv series , ie Kenshin ovas , however what they did here is they took the series and got bogged down in a lot of nudity etc , which they used too much and it took away from the anime , and was rather immature a lot , I mean on of the great things about the tv series was they dealt with those thigns very elgantly which they didn't here , but its still good animation art character , music etc and definetly worth getting

I love Love Hina and the 2nd sequel Love Hina Christmas Special. But the first sequel Love Hina - Motoko's Choice was weak as was Love Hina Spring Special. This is due in part to the fact that fanservice became more important than the actual story. With Love Hina Again we have that problem again as well as the fact that the original source material (the manga) wasn't very good either.

This OAV series follows the original manga more closely than the original TV series did. However, the writers try to cram a lot of material into only three episodes. This becomes a weakness of the series. Combine that with the "we must increase the fanservice and ecchi content", and the story is seriously weakened. I know the manga is very ecchi at times, but the manga has the time to do both ecchi and story. Three OAV episodes don't leave you with much time, so taking time for ecchi is wasted. Had they just went with the TV-levels of fanservice, I think this would have been better.

Kanako is a mysterious character and there's a reason for it. She was a last-moment invention in the manga to extend the life of the manga series. So Keitaro having a step-sister comes out of the blue, but in a weird way it works because it makes he and Naru more alike -- they both have younger step-sisters. But where it doesn't work is the incest angle. Man, is that aspect pushed. Kanako's constant attempts to seduce Keitaro were just wrong and never funny. Naru's attempts to understand Kanako's bizarre behavior was odd as well. Kanako's constant wearing of black clothing combined with her talking black cat was clearly designed to indicate she's a witch of some sort or at the very least, evil.

While Kanako formed an evil new love-triangle of Naru-Keitaro-Kanako, she did serve a useful purpose in pushing the main story forward. Naru had confessed her love for Keitaro to Shinobu-chan in the Love Hina Spring Special, yet finds she cannot confess these same feelings to Keitaro in person. This despite his own confession to her. But with Kanako doing everything to ride Keitaro's pony combined with the pressure from the residents of Hinata-Sou, Naru is forced to deal with things. How much does she love Keitaro? How will the other residents feel, especially since Shinobu-chan has feelings for Keitaro and Mokoto has begun to respect him? So many questions, but at least she faces them.

Bottom line: Big Love Hina fans may want to buy this just to complete the series. People who enjoyed Love Hina will for sure want to see this. And if you are into ecchi, I suppose this will be for you too. But for me, had there been at least one more episode (or more) and less ecchi content, this could have been a "Buy."

Just as good as LOVE HINA, but, the series is only 3 esp.; I mean come on! Ranma has hundreds of esp. and the OAV of LOVE HINA has only 3!! God, I wish they had continued still with the story. Most of the other semi-characters are just as good as the main 2. They could've kept going with more stories giving out more plots to the other characters to develop.
I wish the series had kept going.. poor me.

While I am a big Love Hina fan, I have to say Love Hina Again dropped off a bit in terms of quality. The animation is great but the story is a little weak. It fails to conclude the series when compared to the manga. I felt Love Hina fans were robbed of the grandiose ending that it truly deserves. If you haven't read the manga, read it to find out what happens!

Really a continuation of the TV series Love Hina. It start with their first day at the University, with no introduction of characters and background story because it assumed that we already watched the TV series.
As a standalone title, this is confusing and lack emotion (=AVOID), but as a continuation of the TV series, this is a good story addition that actually answers one of the main question at the end of the series (or to really confirm the situation at the end of the series' special), which makes it a must see (=BUY).
I watched the series, including the specials, so I am sure loved this OVA.
(ps. The episodes were not numbered, but it uses names: Kanako, Keitaro, and Naru, in that order for ep 1,2, and 3).
