Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna is meant to serve as the finale of the original Digimon Adventure series focused on Taichi and Yamato coming onto adulthood as college students while also continuing their duties as Digidestined with their partner Digimon. But while taking on a case involving a rogue Digimon causing the comatose state of Digidestined throughout the world, the two young men come to realize that their time with their Digimon partners is coming close to its end with adulthood approaching for them.

Last Evolution Kizuna is a unique addition to the Digimon Adventure series as it explores some new story elements for the franchise as a whole. It explores how Taichi and Yamato are now as adults with the film subtly dabbling into this with the two men indulging in things found in adulthood such as drinking beer and indulging in adult videos. In addition, the film adds in a new dimension to being a Digidestined as it's revealed that their Digimon partner will separate from them once a Digidestined comes of age, as a Digimon partner's ability to evolve from a Digivice comes from the endless possibilities of growth provided to a Digidestined as a child and those possibilities gradually lessen as they grow into adulthood and causes this power to fade away over time. This creates some solid pathos for Taichi and Yamato as they find themselves conflicted later in the film over how to approach things with the global Digidestined crisis when knowing that having their partner Digimon evolve and fight will shorten the remaining time they have to be together and coping with this separation is the major source of development for both throughout this film. What is revealed of the main source behind the comatose Digidestined also ties into this story theme, though shows a more darker development with it with what is revealed of the backstory details leading up to it and serves as a nice contrast to Taichi and Yamato's coping of the developments. It is a major improvement over Digimon Adventure tri. as Last Evolution Kizuna provides new storytelling elements for the Digimon franchise, while also paying homage to story and character elements from earlier installments of Digimon Adventure.

In short, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna is a solid conclusion for the original Adventure series with the storytelling direction it dabbles into with the older members of the Digidestined participating in their last adventure with their partner Digimon when coming to learn they are about to separate and is worth a look if you've been a long-time Digimon Adventure fan up to this point.
