At each stop, he usually does something perverted and gets in trouble but also helps out that person as an apology (And it is not sex related).

A young lad learns about computers, sex, animation, swimming, the opposite sex, motorcycles, kinky sex, and along the way - he discovers that 'women are scary'

Geez, this had enough fan service and nudity to poke a stick with. Outside of hentai, Golden Boy has to be the most heaviest anime I've seen to date full of sexual content. This can proof to be a big deterant to some viewers from what is otherwise a clever and funny title focused on Kentaro's unusual methods of learning new things from whatever jobs he faces.

In each episode of this OAV, Kentaro comes across a pretty or attractive woman who has a different area of work. Situations vary in each episode with said woman either being in some sort of crisis or Kentaro learning how to do a job he has never been exposed to. There is enough believability put into exploring the pressures of each of the environments Kintaro finds himself in such as working for a software firm or swimming lessons. And despite his toilet fetishes and daydreams, Kentaro does come across as a loveable fellow as he is respectful towards those he is working for, learns how to do his job, and improve the quality of whatever job he becomes involved in. Each job is literally like a school lesson for the guy as the notes he makes in his notebook add to the hilarity of each episode of the series. Other than the last episode of the series, Golden Boy's episodes are stand-alone stories with no linear plot.

If you like erotic comedies or can handle the heavy ecchi content of Golden Boy, then you should have a fun time laughing away at Kentaro Oe's antics in each episode of this OAV series.

This is probably one of the only stand alone OVAs that I am really in to. Golden Boy is one of the funniest animes I have ever seen. At first, when I viewed the the trailers, I was really skeptical. I thought that this anime was more drama and some comedy. To me, that was a big negative. When I finally bought it and watched the first episode, I was laughing my ass off. It didn't stop until the end. That to me is what it takes to impress me. Golden Boy also feature one of my favorite english voice actors, Doug Smith (voice of Kintaro). Once he started, I was a bit confused at his style but once I continued, he was the reason why it was hilarious.
The story is about Kintaro Oe, a college student who dropped out of college before he graduated and became a freeter. A freeter means a person who travels all around seeking various jobs. They should have just said that he was a dropout looking for a job but that would kill the series. Each episode, he's in a different job with different problems. It all comes together in the last episode and that's what I found cool. All those past episodes weren't just fillers since they all were different stories. It all tied together in the end and completed the series. Plus, enough fan service to make any pervert satisfied. Overall, BUY this series if you're really into some ecchi and a lot of comedy. Plus, since the series is now a collectible, you just need to get 1 2-disc set for under $20 which is well worth the money. Unfortunately, it looks like ADV is sold out of any copies. You'll have to go to eBay or rent it.
I've just recently seen a new release for Golden Boy in Best Buy. If you get the chance pick up a copy!

Preety whack- the ist episode was the best- the rest is not that good so I was disappointed by the rest and disappointed by the series. Nevertheless it still is quite enjoyable.

But I didn't find it as explicit as people make it out. The 3rd episode has practically nothing at all.

My god! I can believe so many people hated this series!! I've watched it like 5 times already and It still makes me laugh
Probably the funniest anime I have ever seen (and I have seen Excel Saga)...I'm not really sure if girls will find it funny though... The idea of a superintelligent poetic pervert just rules, and I recommend this to all guys out there!! (girls, maybe just rent or watch it, i dunno)
Theres just so many great quotes in this...watch this with some buddies and you'll be quoting it for years to come
And they recently released an "essential anime" edition, so you could get all 6 episodes at best buy for like 13 bucks
and buy it

Drama : Low
Comedy : High
Action : None
SciFi : Low
Ecchi : High (No Nudity but almost hentai levels of H)

Whoa! Last two really trashed this. I bumped into this series by accident. I think they saw an edited one because there is no way Free TV would show this without cutting out half of the show.
First off. This is EXTREMELY ecchi. I mean just a little more and this would be hentai. This is even worse than Buttobi and that one has sex. It just doesn't show the 'detail' that Golden boy has.
Ok past the ecchi, and this is a great series. Fan Service aside (And it has a lot of it) this is really about a man going around and learning about life and how it affects him. He makes a few mistakes (and boy are they big ones) but he has the ability to climb over them and overcome.
Of course when you watch the first episode you are going to be drawn to the fact that the main female character is wearing 2 pieces of ribbon for a dress and Kintaro hides in the lockers so that he can sketch women wearing panties. But just stay with the show and you will learn a little bit of programming and how working in the real world is tough. That's how each episode is played. Just get past the ecchi (And #3 hardly has any) and it's a wonderful watch.
And yes his English VA is REALLY ANNOYING but after 10 minutes I realized it fit him very well.

Edit : I removed the note about a GB 48 episode TV series. I checked around (Anidb, Suki, AnimeNFO, and ANN) and no such series exists or no one has acknowledged seeing it.

i dont really hatee the show all that much, but if the entire show is like the dub that I saw, i can only describe the main character as halfway between bill and teds exlent adventure, and special ed, also the awful 1980 wash is really really awful.

[I have only watched this series once.]
This occasionally very perverted series had some hilarious moments, but most of it just didn't do it for me. Maybe if i were still 14 years old this would have been a hit. I like the premise of the story/idea and the series has a good ending episode which concludes all of the episodes nicely; I really liked the last episode. Oh well, if you want to see some perverted humour for a couple of hours this series might do it.
- Art: Lot's of very well drawn scenes, especially the changing facial expressions. The beginning of the first episode seemed bad, but when you get to see the different drawing styles you'll know what i mean.
- Animation: Animation was quite nice, nothing too special.
- Character design: Kintaro was a very lovable character with a interesting way to live. He was overly interested in stuff that women has touched *cough* toilets *cough*, but we'll forgive that. Other characters were not forgotten either as the episode stories had their share of character drama. Maybe they were not really memorable thus the "low" score.
- Story: There were no storyline per-se, but each of the episodes had their own short story which had some idea in them.

Rent Stretch [series:208#628]
For me, anime theme songs and the accompanying animation are the equivalent of the MTV videos which were all the rage for everybody else a couple of decades ago. Goldenboy has a great one (completely instrumental), the kind you can't help tapping fingers or humming along with. As for the show itself, I don't think I've ever seen such a wide variety of animated facial expressions before--ranging from the absurdly superdeformed to the frighteningly realistic. More than once, Kintaro gets the ---- beaten out of him, and there are several mentions of the Yakuza (the Japanese Mafia). Episode three was kind of disturbing, but for the most part this is quite a funny series, provided you are not offended by things like fanservice. The "ecchi level" is fairly high to begin with, but it jumps dramatically in episode two, and probably reaches it's height in number five (funny... possibly my favorite one!). Despite his obsession with the toilets used by beautiful women, Kintaro is likeable since he clearly will only daydream and take notes about these girls. This risque sort of humor works for me, and who couldn't enjoy episode six, which takes a look at an anime studio? I think the dubbed editions were actually preferable (having seen some of both kinds).

My favorite line: "Oh, Angel, you are too bright for me, a dirty, foul minded rat who has been exposed to the filth of this world!" --Kintaro

Watch Rirath.com [series:208#802]
Believe me when I say this show is just plain hilarious. The basic story is about Kintaro Oe who travels from town to town taking part time jobs, chasing women, and learning all he can about life. Kintaro has to be one of the easiest to relate to characters ever made. He takes everything to the extreme, and it's just laugh out loud funny every time. From his constant never ending quest to study life, to tiny things he instantly blows up into life or death matters.
One of the funniest things about this show is simply Kintaro's constantly extremely over the top expressions and reactions. He spends a great amount of time in various super deformed modes like Dragon Half or Trigun. Other times in less then 0.1 seconds his face will turn not just serious, but manga-fighter-style life or death expressions like a weight lifter trying to benchpress a new record. It's hilarious.
If that wasn't enough, the writing is superb and the english voice acting couldn't possibly be better. Kintaro's English VA is just perfect and will have you rolling around when he's not even really saying anything. The one thing to mention though is this is without a doubt an Ecchi series. It practically defines the word. If you're an adult anime fan who can get a laugh out of movies like American Pie, you'll love this.

Really Funny series about Kentaro who is getting most out of life by working part time jobs and "study, study, study!".
Every episode is a different experience for Kentaro, and everything he encounters is "so educational" as he says. Although he is usually hated in the beginning but he learns so fast he becomes very popular.
Don't miss it if you want to get a good laugh.

A total loss on me. Each and every episode I watched on MTV did just focus on a boy fantasizing nude girls. There isn't any story line worth mentioning; there might be some funny scenes you may have a quick laugh about now and then. But overall, take Love Hina and remove everything that is valuable there, and you come pretty close to this anime ... Kintaro, zero points.
(The name of this "Golden Boy" might possibly have been taken from Japanese mythology where some Kintaro, raised by a woman named Yamauba, was growing up in the woods as a boy like Tarzan and fighting beasts and demons; he later named himself Sakata Kintoki.)

Doug Smith, voice of Kintaro, is simply God to me any many of my anime lovin friends. His voice is a big reason that Goldenboy is so damn funny. Another reason is the many innovative facial expressions and body languages that Director, Kitakubo explored during the making of this genius work of comedy. I would like to admit thought that there are a few offensive scenes in which Kintaro's hormones run the show along with and even more potent dose of hormones from the women he meets during his journey. LIFE IS STUDY!!!!

Everything great about this anime has been said already and twice over by me! Great looking, clever, funny as all hell, etc., etc... This is just a great show! Only problem I can find, Kintaro's English voice actor has to be the stupidest-sounding guy I've ever heard in my life! I mean, I'll admit Kintaro is not the brightest bulb in the box, but this is ridiculous! But still, that's only a minor problem as he starts to grow on you after about the second episode and most of the other voices are pretty good. So there! Go get it!

Golden Boy is hands-down the funniest anime I've ever seen. The innocent and horemonal Kintaro is hilarious as he stumbles through a plethora of parttime jobs (and falls for a plethora of women) while riding across Japan on his favorite bike.

This six episode OAV series will have you rolling with laughter if you like to watch people embarass themselves. The combination of Kintaro's wacky persona and the oddball situations he gets himself into is a big hit. And Doug Smith does a brilliant voice...he is Kintaro.

The artwork is quite splendid...a nice exaggerated comic style, ranging from ultra-cute to ultra-realist, with plenty of wild takes in between. The stories are great, written with a tounge-in-cheek wit that will keep you wanting more long after these episodes are over (epecially episode six...a self-diminishing critique of the anime industry with a hothead producer, a rummy writer, and a slew af evert-so-lazy animators.)

Though it can be endearing at times, this one's not for kids; there's a lot of sexual and relationship humor involved, as well as a bit of violence (but nothing to cover your eyes about). There are a few "h" moments (episodes two and five in particular...), but nothing 'explicit.'

If you have a sense of humor about sex, you're qualified to watch and enjoy. If not, you need sit this one out.

"My name is Kintaro Oa, I am 25 years old and a student of life." "This is SO educational." Just two of many catch phrases you'll utter and giggle like a schoolgirl over after you watch this series.
Kintaro Oa is the walking stereotype of the y chromosome as he goes on a quest for love and learning. He often digresses off his path as a pair of bouncing breasts attached to a woman distracts him and leads him into an often bludgeoningly difficult situation.
Despite his affinity for women, the likeable Kintaro is a respectful and nice guy... a pushover for the opposite sex.
Be warned, lot's of sex, innuendo and nudity, but it's a disturbingly accurate trek into the male mind. A laughable comedy worth watching.

Buy 9 8 10 7 6 Midnighter [series:208#94]
This is a very funny series with gorgeous art and animation. The title character, Kitaro Oe(literally translated as Golden Boy, hence the title), is a pitifully typical male (I know, I am one) on a quest for true love. Unfortunately numorous busty women sidetrack him every so often...
Despite his horemones, Kintaro is a genuinely nice and likeable guy who respects women and would never do anything to harm them.
Men will undoubtably get a kick out of it, and women will find that it is a fascinating journey into the mind of that lowest and most mysterious of life forms...the human male.
The animation in Golden Boy is quite beautiful, and the backgrounds are very nicely painted. The wonderful character designs are by Kawamoto Toshihiro of Cowboy Bebop and Gundam 0083 fame. I have to say that Kintaro is probably my single favorite character design in anime. Mr. Kawamoto's famous female characters shine here, though I find the torso and legs rather too long, giving them a weird, stretched look.
The opening theme song is a classic. Actually, everything about Golden Boy is a classic, each episode is as funny as the last, though episode 3 is definately the weak point, with humor that doesn't quite work because, frankly, I don't find violence against women particularly funny.
I really can't say enough about Golden Boy. Interestingly, my female friends like it as well or better than my male friends, so I guess that either says something about the wide appeal or that I hang out with weird girls...
Golden Boy is a definate buy, with so much to love it's watchable again and again and remains side-splitting.
Go out and be educated, because as Kintaro would say..."Life is study!"
