Blue Orchestra focuses on a teenage boy named Hajime Aono, a talented violinist who stopped playing following his parents' messy divorce until he gets pressed into both tutoring a potential violinist named Ritsuko Akine and joining his school's orchestra club that reignites his interest in playing the violin. This series has the familiar storytelling beats you can find in a high school drama involving students involved in a school club and learning to polish up their teamwork and individual skills to successfully perform in their area of interest. Still, the series devotes enough time to exploring the personal issues and developments of Aono and several of his fellow club members to get you to care for how things develop with them both with their instrument playing and whatever issues are affecting them. The series even devotes its final couple episodes to show the results of their hard work when participating in an orchestra competition to show off their combined talents, with the music being a clear highlight due to the orchestral scores performed. The only major gripes I really have with the series is the use of CG animation for animating instrument playing scenes which sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the regular animation and the series ending inconclusively with its source material still being ongoing as of the time I write this quick review. But with news of a second series in development, I look forward to continuing to see more of Blue Orchestra with what it offered up with its character and club-focused drama.

Well, I did not think this was a brilliant anime, as I had heard, but it was an OK one. The premise is actually pretty familiar: Hajime was once a violin prodigy, tutored by his father who was a famous violinist. But when his father had an affair and broke up with his mother, Hajime abandoned his promising prospects as a musician out of anger. Now, the notion of a school orchestra is presented to him; he had always planned to be a solo performer, so this is an original and intriguing idea. No doubt he will rediscover his love for the violin and make new friends as well. So, another case of the burnt-out talent that will be revived. I did not notice anything remarkably good or bad about episode one. If I were not already swimming in new anime this season I might watch this one, but since I am I can't be certain that I will.
