The fourth story arc in the Jojo franchise, Diamond is Unbreakable features the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar, Josuke Hishigata, being dragged into a mystery involving both the mysterious manifestation of Stand users and a string of murders affecting his home city of Morioh. While a bit more on the grounded side with its story focus compared to how fantastical the prior story arcs of the franchise offered up, Diamond is Unbreakable still retains the exaggerated and over-the-top personalities of its colorful characters and has more creative offerings with the new Stand users introduced throughout the anime's 39-episode run. The first half of the series involves Josuke and his allies encountering different Stand users serving as friend or foe, that may ring some familiar vibes to how Stardust Crusaders did as such and will admit some of the encountered characters did grate on me at points with their exaggerated characters, particularly Koichi's weak-willed persona and Yukako serving as an early inspiration of the yandere character type. But things gets interesting in the second half of the series when the culprit behind the Morioh murders makes their presence felt and has its fair share of twists with Josuke and friends trying to track down and stop them. Overall, Diamond is Unbreakable still offers up much of the entertaining elements of Jojo's story arcs with its exaggerated characters and creative Stand abilities, though it does feel like it's down somewhat creatively since some of its story structure felt too similar to Stardust Crusaders. Still if you've enjoyed the Jojo franchise up to this point, you should still get entertainment out of Diamond is Unbreakable.
