Vash the Stampede is a gunman on the run with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere without being chased and shot at. Every town he ever visits ends up being destroyed because of his pursuers, but miraculously no one ever gets killed. Meryl and Milly are two insurance agents that have been sent to find Vash the Stampede and keep him under surveillance so no more damage is caused. Meryl, who leads the pair, refuses to believe that the man they have met can possibly be the legendary gunman. This spikey haired, gangly, young man is extremely friendly, a pacifist, hates blood and suicide, absolutely loves donuts, and is a dork and a crybaby (far from a notorious outlaw). But there is more to Vash and his past than meets the eye.

What can I say about Trigun? I think that it is suffice to say that it is one of my absolute favorite anime to have hit the shelves. The characters are just so lovable and the story is terrific. The opening is arguably one of the best one that has graced my television.

The whole idea of Trigun is just fascinating of a futuristic western on an desert planet. The humor at the beginning left me in tears at times, and the transition from that humor to the darker more serious parts is flawless. I didn't notice that it happen until I was near the end of the series. I could go for hours about how much I love the series but lets move on to the depth of the show.

It talks about the struggle of Vash the Stampede( who is wanted for $$60 billion double dollars) to keep his vow of never taking a life as well as finding out if humanity can have a reason to exist. Through all of the show Vash continues to find what it is that he lives for and what life is worth living. (The fact that there is an opposition out there that is trying to destroy humanity doesn't help Vash's cause.)

I say that this series is on the top of the list for anime introductions to someone who hasn't seen one. Even though I have watched the series many times over the years I have been a fan of anime, it is still able to make me laugh to this day. Only one word comes to mind when I think of Trigun: Timeless.

Vash is awesome. One of my favorite anime characters. Even though the cover art depicts him as a serious lethal gunslinger, in reality he's more of a somewhat-of-an-idiot gunslinger who likes to complain alot and constantly gets into trouble. The setting here is far from your typical anime. There's no schools, uniforms (school), or cute girls running around in tiny skirts but rather a western/futuristic-ish backdrop full of cowboys, country thugs and plenty of western style gunslinging.

The series as a whole, and almost every episode had me cracking up with laughter. About half way through the series, it got less funny and much more serious. The transition was perfect with no jumps or fills in the episodes. Almost a solid story telling from beginning to end.

One thing to note however, I noticed alot of people comparing this anime to Cowboy Bebop. I really don't think they can be comparible since they aren't similar in any way. The only thing that you can compare the two on is how good they both are. Besides that, Trigun is in a barren looking environment with a western/futuristic-ish style setting, whereas Bebop is primarily in space with sci-fi style settings & with a story revolving around 3 central characters sharing a single ship. Not much of a comparison in my opinion.

Focused on the exploits of Vash the Stampede, Trigun is set on the Western-themed planet of Gunsmoke where Vash is a wanted outlaw for a number of mysterious destructive events taking place on the planet. Along for the ride are two insurance agents in the form of Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson who tag with Vash to try minimizing any damage he causes with the destructive activity he is supposedly responsible for.

One thing to keep in mind with Trigun throughout its run is that first appearances can be deceiving. While Vash make seem like a comical goofball if you are coming upon this series for the first time, there is quite a bit more to his character than what you would see on the surface. Plus while the first half of the series starts off as a comedy-action title, hints are spread out throughout this part of the series that reveal more aspects to Vash's character such as his superhuman gunmanship and idealist philosophy. Things gradually get more serious within the second half of the series where Vash's past makes its presence felt on him as his origins get revealed and they are a rather complicated matter that push his idealist beliefs to their breaking point.

For its time, Trigun was a rather unique title in its setting with mixing elements of sci-fi and westerns. While typical elements of westerns such as outlaw gangs, crooked sheriffs and survival in the desert are incorporated, the series also incorporates sci-fi elements such as robotic body parts for humans, the PLANTs that provide power to human cities and the unique origins of how human life came onto Gunsmoke. Vash's origins play into this unique mixture when his origins are unveiled later in the series.

While Vash is the main character of focus in Trigun, prominent characters within the series still get a decent amount of fleshing out. Meryl and Millie show a diverse range of personality when dealing with their adventures of Vash and Wolfwood gets a good deal of fleshing out having his own rather complicated origins and reasons to stick with Vash throughout later episodes in the series. The episodic plots even offer some fleshing out of major characters and introduce some rather colorful ones like members of the Nebraska family and Brilliant Dynamites Neon.

The show does have some shortcomings. While the serious bent of Trigun's second half helps to add an ongoing plot lacking from its first half, the enemy threat Vash and his allies confront suffer from some rather shallow development to a great extent since many of them only exist as obstacles to be put down and the true threat Vash confronts from his past makes little action throughout the series beyond a rather lackluster final battle in the series finale.

Visually, Trigun is of standard quality for a late-90s anime series. There is a good amount of detail drawn into settings and character designs with subdued color toning. The highlights of the visuals come in the form of some of the technologies employed and some giant-sized enemy characters seen at points throughout the series. The series makes use of animation tricks to simulate fluid movement, particularly during heated battle scenes. However, the choreography for these scenes have their moments thanks to unique environments where they take place or the special abilities of foes that Vash confronts.

The soundtrack of the series consists of western-influenced tracks consisting mostly of electronic rock and guitar numbers that are fitting for both the setting of the series and the mixture of action, comedy and drama found throughout its run.

Overall, Trigun is a fun and engaging series that offered a original setting unique for its time, a nice balance of action-comedy and drama and a lovable and complicated lead character in the form of Vash. As one of anime's popular gateway drug titles, this is an easy recommendation to make as the series is very accessible to non-anime fans, especially with the excellent English dub featuring Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash.

When I first watched trigun I had to watch I it in japanese with English subtitles and it was really good, even though I never liked subtitles much. But when I watch it in the dub version it was no where near as funny as the japanese version, specially vash.

Except for the bad english dubbing I can't find another bad thing about this anime. As it extremely funny even if you watch it again and again. My favourite pharse is when the girl say: vash the Stampedo humanoid typhoon.(In japanese not english)

Episode 26 is close to my favorite but not entirely. Vash finally meets up with his brother Knives and determines it is up to him how he wants to live his life and how he wants his life to end up. He has always tried to do the right thing and not go against the odds. On the other side of the spectrum his brother Knives feels all humanity is worthless and must be destroyed. Vash does not feel this way and give humanity a chance no matter what. This episode ends with Vash walking off carying his brother over his shoulder and thinking he is control now and not others.

Trigun has got to be one of my favourite mangas, but I can't say It's that high up on my anime list. Even in the first few episodes, its much more happy and light then the manga, which is quite humorous, but not as much so as the anime. It does get darker further on though ^^
For both anime and manga, the characters weren't too well developed- Millie and Meryl were just... there. They followed Vash for one reason, and if you think about it, that's not really good. Both M & M needed some more character development- Millie was quite amusing, and you could see traces of her individual character, but little more. I think well-developed secondary characters are a must! Such makes shows a lot more interesting ^^ As for Vash and Wolfwood, their character's were quite well done in my opinion, since they were the very main characters.
The setting was very interesting because of the dusty old west settings, and the newer science fiction technology.

First time watching Trigun I was disapointed from the hype and that it was compared with the amazing Bebop.
But second time watching it I can see why it is loved by so many anime fans, still don't think its as good as bebop but still its just a very fun and exciting anime to watch. And did I mention its also one of the funniest.
The characters are soooo cool, Vash is a great character design, Wolfwood is another one and not forgetting Legato.

I liked Trigun a lot. I liked the way that it went from a seeming straight comedy/hi-jinks show to something much more serious. It did that a lot, even within episodes. There were times when the change from wacky and hyper to deadly serious came so fast that I practically got whiplash. The show does a good job of kind of lulling you into a sense of security, then hitting you in the face with a death or catastrophe. Even though that's an axtremely wierd feeling, it left me wanting more.
The music, while it might not be able to stand as well alone, was excellent background music. It set the mood of the scenes really well. Especially the scene in the cathedral--you know what I'm talking about if you've watched. I thought the animation could've used a little work, but it wasn't awful or anything. I liked the characters, particularly Wolfwood and Legato( although I identified with Meryl). What I paid the most attention to and liked the most, though, was the quietness and seriousness of some parts of the story, made more striking by the usual, um, loudness.
Here are the only problems I had: I thought that the show got a little *too* hyper at times. There were some points where I got impatient with the hi-jinks and clowning around. But it didn't happen in enough places to make me stop watching.
The other problem is the dub. The dub voices of the main cast were pretty good( although it was very, very disturbing to suddenly hear Kenshin's voice talking pleasantly about torture and global genocide...@_@), but I personally could not stand the voices of about ninety percent of the extras and side villains. It was frustrating to me to become so irritated by the shrill voices and corny lines of the extras on a series that I thought was otherwise so good. But I was willing to overlook that because I really *do* like the story.
In short, if anyone needs another reason to watch this...lol, I thought the names of the Gung-Ho Guns were really cool.

This is my favorite anime. There probably are better ones, but I still like this one best. As much as I love the show, I think the manga is better so you should see the show first then read the manga.
Madhouse does good animation, but theyve done better, like in Bloodlust. I really like the music, and I prefer the english dub over the original japanese. And how cool is Wolfwood? A priest that kills!
Overall, I think this is a must see. Dont let the beginning fool you, this series gets pretty serious at the end.

Well, Trigun is highly recomended. But, what really disappointed me was the ending. I think if they put their mind to it they could've done a whole lot better. Vash the Stampede, a infamous criminal with a $$60,000,000,000 reward on his head is on the run. In the beginning nobody ever believes that he is the true Vash the Stampede because of his personality. I just think that Trigun the name of this anime is what really attracts the people attention. I mean TRIGUN whoa, I have to see this. But when you start watching it, it is really disappointing. Well there is a lot of comedy yes. But the story is some what okay. This was the second anime I watched out of a whopping 30. But I would still recommend watching Cowboy Bebop. The first anime I watched. The name may sound kind of strange. But, don't judge a book by its cover. Trigun is highly recommended, however the only reason I recommended is because it is actually of very good quality or its time period. Although Cowboy Bebop came out in the same year.

This is my absolute first amime. I've never really watched it before, but Trigun kinda makes me wonder what I've been missing. Vash is great, especially in his wild mood swings. The villains are a bit over the top, except, of course, for Legato and Knives. Legato is absolutely the best!!! If what happened had to happen, hey, at least it happened the way he would have wanted. Sorry about the roundabout way of referring to it, but who knows who hasn't seen that episode. Recap: Trigun is awesome, and is definitely a "gateway anime" for newbies.

What i like most about this anime was the music. The story plot was really good a little insane just because vash and knives are aliens and how there on some desert planet cause the earth died or something. Also there was to many cowboys.
Knives was a kick ass vilain a litlle femine at times but his weird smile laugh changed my opinion completely.
So the awesome music and weird action awesomeness clearly made this a good anime.
But i hate that fricken black cat he pissed me off.
Keep watching anime and watch out or the seizures might get you.

An excellent series that swings from wacky to serious and does both competently with it all adding up to a satisfying whole.
Not all the episodes are superb, but they all have some redeeming value and there are some superb ones to make up for the clankers.
It's the kind of series you have to stick with to really 'get' it. There are a lot of important details sandwiched in between inane moments. And, since it swings so much between such polar opposites in mood as serious and wacky, you might find that only half the series is to your taste.

Trigun is an anime based on a manga (arent they all) that follows the adventures of Vash the Stampede also known as "The Humanoid Typhoon," as he has a bounty on his head for $60 billion double dollars. this series starts out following Vash as he visits various towns, wandering around as if he has no purpose. the series starts out from the beginning as a story of the adventures of a guy whos a complete goofball, and how he always manages to save the day somehow. But the story, although its comedy lighthearted coating and demeanor, is really a darker, more serious, spiritual adventure of Vash and his brother knives who is a little crazy. The story of Vash and his brother slowly unfolds as the series moves on, learning of their pasts and where they came from. the character designs for trigun are some of the best ever. Very detailed and very unique to say the least. Trigun is a series for everyone, although you might not get some of it unless you are older or more spiritual than others. this is a great story that will be loved and watched for a long time.

You can relate to me if you think
Rurouni Kenshin OVA (excellent in every way. The best you've seen)
Cowboy Bebop (excellent. The story line was nicely done)
Inuyasha (good, but got repetitive and at the same time you were entertained)
Kiki's Delivery Service (a very "light hearted" story. i enjoyed it)

Trigun: It was good for the first few eps but it got repetitive. Ive seen 15eps and each ep goes - he enters a new town, acts silly, then when they need a hero, he becomes serious. Some compared trigun with cowboy bebop how??!!! After reading some of the reviews, I decided to borrow the series and boy was i disappointed. Ok, I love Trigun. It is one of the greatest anime/manga's of all time. It's right up there with Cowboy Bebop. You have to love Vash, at first sight you see this hysterical guy who acts like a baffoon clueless of what's going on and jumping around dodging bullets on 'accident' Then you go on to learn more about who he is and learn to appreciate him more. How can you not love a gun man who's hilarious? I also love the seriousness of Vash on certain occasions, he cares about everyone else and doesn't like innocent lives taken, but doesn't seem to intense about his own life. His visions of Rem get old and when you first see them you stare blankly saying 'who the hell...?' but that ends once you learn of Vash's past. Knives is, of course, my favorite character. You have to love the deranged brother. Wolfwood brings a lot to the story too, the preist with a giant cross that's actually a gun. 'What ever happened to thou shalt not kill?!?!' One of Vash's numerous quotes talking to Wolfwood. You can always count on comic relief when it comes to this series.

The art and animation for Trigun was fine. The character designs are fine too, though Milly sort of looks like a guy. The music is great, and it completely suits the show. I love the songs Sound Life, Not an Angel, and Perfect Dark.

In my opinion the dub was very good. I love Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash and Richard Hayworth as Legato. I even liked Bo Williams Knives.

I'm well aware that most anime shows based on mangas don't completely follow the manga it was based on. However, Trigun would have been much better if it had. Trigun the anime seemed a bit rushed. Instead of using filler episodes, more episodes should have been based on things that took place in the manga.

The first problem I had with the anime version, was the unnecessary death of a certain character. The anime version had a few odd changes, and leaves out what little background information there was on Vash, and what exactly he and Knives were.

Vash was a really angst-filled character, who cried and whined too much for me. I also didn't like the way the Rem character was written. Knives was my favorite character, because I thought his character was well-written.

This was a good show though. It's nice to see an anime series in which the main character isn't Japanese, and the setting isn't Japan. I suppose that alone makes Trigun unique. It's pretty much a western, and a good one at that. At times Trigun is sad, and funny, but it has a good amount of action too. The last episode definitely had a great shoot-out.

It's worth buying, but the manga is better. You might want to buy both volumes of the soundtrack too.

well, the art is okay, but definately not quite the best. but, the shoot outs and other battles are the greatest, especially in the last episode. the battle between knives and vash was hillarious and suspensive at the same time!
the ending theme was a huge disappointment compared to the opening song. and what really bugged me was that the final song to the whole series was nothing but the same music during the whole series! usually they add another kewl song to finish it off with a BANG! but no! it has that...wierd...screeching...male...dude.

Having read much enthusiastic praise about this series on websites, I mail-ordered the first volume to see for myself. The theme song and opening sequence were so thrilling, so cool, that they just seemed to cry out "this is gonna be a GREAT series!". The first episode lived up to these great expectations--I was amazed at the clever animation as a hail of bullets literally ate away the wooden counter in a bar. The remaining three episodes on my tape were OK, but clearly not as good as the first one, and I began to wonder if all the hype about Trigun was really justified. With the benefit of hindsight, it's as if the makers of the series decided to get the "filler" episodes out of the way as soon as possible. I didn't order any more tapes, which was fortuitous, since Cartoon Network suddenly started running the show--and this is a show which is dubbed so well that I'm glad I didn't order any more subtitled tapes. Vash is a man who only wants to be left alone, but a wide variety of nefarious charachters are so obsessed with him that he is constantly being stalked, and invariably gets the blame for the mayhem that ensues when they catch up to him. Around halfway through the run the series changes suddenly when we start learning about Vash's distant past, and who (or what) he is. Things get more serious, and people get killed more often and in greater numbers. Vash doesn't want to harm a fly, but he is under incredible pressure to defend himself and the people around him. At times it seemed like a villain-of-the-week series, but eventually it ended well as Vash decides that a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do--but does it in his own unique way. After watching it for the first time, the best way I can think of to explain how close I felt Trigun, as a whole, came to what I had read about it beforehand would be like this: suppose you had been urged to get hold of a show which is as good as Cowboy Bebop, but it turned out to be more like Outlaw Star. I love both shows, so even though I felt Trigun fell a little short of my inflated expectations, I was not particularly disappointed. If I was, I wouldn't have recommended that you "Buy" (but buy cable TV and a VCR first of all!). The fact that I continually *rewatch* Trigun whenever Cartoon Network reruns it may suggest just how much I like it, and my respect for the series only grows as I notice new details and plot strands which I had missed before. Trigun is a series which you need to pay close attention to in order to fully understand and enjoy it. Until I wrote the series of episodic reviews, I guess my estimation of the show's worth was based on how much I enjoyed individual episodes, not the series as a whole. That was unfortunate, because there really is a complex and moving long term plot if you take the trouble to look for it.
P.S., Having been born in "The Cornhusker State", I can assure you that "The Nebraska Family" is NOT a realistic portrayal of it's residents!

Trigun is a title that is very deceptive from the start. The first episode is outrageously funny with a hint of seriousness and the final episode is dead serious with a hint of humor. So if you only like serious anime, just sit tight because each episode gets a little less humorous as time progresses and the serious story begins. Once you make it through, watch it a second time.

Vash is a wanted man with a 60-billion double-dollar price on his head. It seems that everywhere he goes, massive destruction follows him. The world of this series is an alien one with two suns and (I think) five moons. It is a desert planet and so there is a strong element of the classic American Western in this series. Mysteriously, every town on this planet seems to have ruins on their outskirts.

There's a lot of foreshadowing in this series and the character development is great. A lot of people point out the so-called "Christian" symbolism in the series. I suppose that's correct from how most people understand Christianity today (these same people having never read a Bible in their lives mind you). I saw it but ignored it. The only problem I had with the series was that I wished I knew why the Gung Ho Gang came about and their full involvement with Vash & Knives. I know their purpose, but not how they were co-opted into Knives purposes. I also wish I knew about the angel arms. Can't have everything I guess.

Bottom line: Good series. Great humor at the start and a good story throughout. Some people may be put off by the cartoonish humor at the beginning and other could be put off by the repetitiveness of episodes, especially with Vash fighting the villian of the week.

I find it disturbingly hard not to just give this solid 10 ratings. This anime is just so good! Vash the Stampede is an awesome main character full of humor and inner troubles. However, the character that really caught my attention was Legato. The man is just so cool. He just doesn't care about anything and just serves his master. The other strong characters are Knives, Wolfwood, and the Gung Ho Gang. Knives is the maniacle villain of this anime who you later find out has a special connection to Vash. I won't go into it here, that's for you to watch and find out of course. Nicholas Wolfwood is the first person to make me think that being a preacher would be cool. "Mercy" is by far the coolest weapon I have ever seen. I think the characters are probably the best ones in any anime I have seen.
The storyline in this anime starts off a bit odd I will admit. With Vash being a total oddball and a seemingly poor fighter that just gets lucky. However, later on you find that he has been basically been playing off his luck and trying to hide his real identity by not just being unstoppable.
The thing I enjoyed the most about this anime is symbolism. Although I myself am not a strong Christian I couldn't help but notice the Christ-like symbolism in this movie. If you watch and think about it you can relate this anime to all sorts of things in the Bible. Especially Vash carrying "Mercy" on his back through a desert. Little things like that really get me involved in animes.
Basically my analysis of Trigun comes to this. BUY IT!!!!

Vash The Stampede is my hero. I got the whole series on disk and I love it. He's wacky and carries that awesome gun, and he wouldn't hurt a fly (intentionally at least). It's very entertaining but you don't really know whats going on until the last couple episodes, but I like how it develops.

At first you would expect that the series would be light, however, when you contiue, the later episodes are quite serious. A mixture of seriousness and laughter, Trigun is a pretty good anime that had a nice meaning to it.

This anime is excellent, probably one of the most surprising anime's of them all. In this there's no excessive gore or violence, the main character is goofy peace maker with a $60,000,000,000 nametag.
The first look at this may be "what a goofy setup", but thats just the cover behind the seriousness that emerges in the later episodes.
After the 8th episode or so it smoothly fades from its comical part into a serious dramatic scenario and grabs you in and wont let you go.
Stupid work kept me from watchin these episodes, and these episodes kept me from having a life (in a good way)

After sitting through a marathon of Trigun with a short intermission half way through, I am pleased to say that the numbness of my legs was worth the experience.
Trigun is a very thought provoking anime. Those of you who have only seen the first few episodes, gave up on the series, and find my previous thought ridiculous, you have no idea what you're missing. The show starts off roughly slow, but picks up greatly soon after. The first half is all humor with a very comedic feel to it. However, halfway through the series, it changes into a somewhat dark and thought provoking anime.
The animation quality is consistent with great character designs. Music was pretty good and the story gets very emotional towards the end.
I saw the first half of the series subbed and the second half dubbed. I can honestly say that they are both equally well done. People may be initially turned away by the somewhat whinny voice of Vash. His voice kind of grows on you and turns very good on the serious talks at the end of the series.
This is an excellent series that any fan of action or comedies would thoroughly enjoy.

I agree with Teodoru, Trigun is a great series and you shouldn't judge the whole series just on the first or 2nd DVDs's.
Vash The Stampede is a cool character with many different sides to him and a huge appetite. (Especially when it comes to donuts! ^_^)
The first few episodes are light hearted and funny but as the series progresses, the storyline becomes more serious and you learn more about Vash's past.
Vash seems to have a split personality. One minute he's all serious, the next he's acting like an idiot, you have no idea which person he really is.
The phrases Vash uses and his voiceovers of each episode are really funny and there are some really good bad guys in in too.
I think Trigun is a brilliant anime, it has a good storyline that doesn't develop at first but gets better along the way.
It is full of suspense and leaves one episode on a cliffhanger. This really annoyed me because I really wanted to know what happened next and I had to wait for the next DVD to come!
Trigun is well worth buying, it has unique characters and the music is quite good too. Despite comedy, the plot does get darker and more mysterious...
Trigun is a must-buy! I really loved it! What else can I say? It's great, BUY IT!!

First of all, you should not judge (not review either) this series if you have not watched the whole thing. The first episodes are funny, then there are about five episodes where you're bored because it's not that fun anymore. Then, suddenly, around ep. 12-14 or something, the whole story changes.
What seemed to be a boring, neverchanging show has suddenly turned into a very involving more serious show. I don't know why it took so long for the story to evolve, maybe the creators wanted it to be a 26 episode show so badly that they put in those boring episodes.
This is, without doubt, the best anime show I've ever watched. You may not think so by checking my ratings, but the story and the characters (especially Wolfwood) are so damn well-made that you cry. Unlike many other anime series, the ending is very good. You have no doubt what happened, so you won't be depressed that it's all over, despite it's greatness.
Total score is 10/10. Buy! But buy it on DVD so you can watch it subbed and laugh at it dubbed.

Trigun is stellar. Pick an aspect and it is really too good for its own sake. The animation is impressive enough. The characters are unique and have their own quirky ways. The music at times is amazing. Episode 12 blew me away at first viewing.
This show is hilarious! Don't be fooled however. Like dark clouds in the horizon all is not how it seems. This anime will draw you into it's world and you plot is well worth the trip.
I felt that some of the episodes were the most emotionally riviting that i have seen. Do yourself a favor, at least see Trigun and see what all the fuss is about. I can only try to assure you that it is warranted.

Well, I just got finished watching Trigun on DVD, and I must say that my 160+$$'s were well spent....not that anybody should be doing this unless they try out Trigun first.
To say the least, the characters, action, animation, storylines, etc are done pretty well and some storyline arcs (no spoilers here) are quite memorable to say the least.
Nothing about this Anime is 100% original however, so don't expect anything bold and artsy from Trigun. Also, this Anime has some plotholes which aren't major, but it still has them.
But anyways, if you liked Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star, then you'd definitely love Trigun. This Anime is somewhat of a western Anime, so if that appeals to you then go ahead and buy several Trigun DVDs. I sure wasn't disappointed despite all the money I've spent on it! ^_^

In my opinion this is one of those series that make anime so much fun to follow, It isn't perfect the animation is certianly nothing to wright home about and some times Vash is almost a little too wierd he seems to swing from extream goof to totaly dramatic hero. but this series still really works. They keep you going with a great story line one of the most creative out there. I really had no Idea where this one was going. Vash seems to have a kenshinesque need to avoid killing but they handle it totally differently. I held off (Who knows why?) on getting this series but now I wish I had gotten it sooner I enjoyed every minuet of it. this is a great one people and a must see.

Trigun is one of those few shows that everybody can enjoy.

When I began viewing the show, I chose the Japanese track, but when I rewatched the first DVD in the English track, I immediately decided to watch the following 7 discs in English. As far as I am concerned, Johnny Yong Bosch IS Vash the Stampede. He's one of the few English voice actors I've heard that have conveyed that much emotion through voice acting.

The animation and character design in Trigun is BEAUTIFUL, especially for a television show. Personally, anything Studio Madhouse is a part of equals top notch animation in my mind.

The show centers around the legendary gunman, Vash the Stampede, who, even with his excellent ability to use arms, is one of the most kindest and gentle persons you would ever meet and he would never directly hurt anyone. Following Vash is, Meryl Strife and Millie Thompson of the Bernadelli Insurance Agency, who are trying to capture him so they can help pay people's insurance claims for the damage he has done.

The story takes place on a planet where virtually everywhere is a desert. It gives the story that perfect Western-genre feeling. While it seems like this show takes place in the future, the creator/director ignored some elements of the present, like personal computers for one thing, but there is some quite advanced gun technology and some space travel technology.

As stated in another review here, the series really could be divided into two sets. The first half is very episodic and seems like they are just for fun, but the last half is when the story begins to get serious and we learn more about the cast. Personally, I think you need to see the first half, to get to know the characters better for the last half to mean more to the viewer.

The one thing that confuses me is that somehow, I liked and disliked the ending of the show. There was some closure to the ending, but not complete closure. It's allright, because you can finish the story in your mind, but it would have been nice to see an actual ending (although, I believe the manga was still running the time of the television ending and since they were running out of time, they did what they did with the show.) At least there is some ending though, as compared to some anime.

All in all, Trigun is one of the best shows to come out in America the past couple of years. The times you spend not chuckling and laughing, you will be wiping away the teary mist from your eyes. 11/25/01

I see that a lot of you talk about the show being nothing more than comedy. While the majority of the first few episodes are based around comic situations, I think this was just to introduce people and make them comfortable with the series. While the humor does return occasionally in later episodes, it takes a more serious turn around the 6th and 7th episodes. Vash is my favorite Anime character, hands down. There are just so many different sides to him and he is like a different person to everyone. And yet he manages to squeeze them all into one great character. I'm not going to spoil anything, but you will learn that Vash's light-heartedness generates from some serious deep-down issues that he is trying to throw away and forget about. The series really reaches its peak when Wolfwood, the wandering priest-gunsman shows up. He, like Vash, is a very interesting character who has a very deep personality. The insurance women, Meryl and Milly, who are always following Vash around, actually serve more of a purpose to the series than I think most see. While watching Vash and the events that unfold around him, some may think Trigun is moving to fast from comedy to drama. However, these two manage to remain there for comic relief. Milly being the big clumsy idiot and Meryl as your classical "why me?" character, who is always on the worst end of things. They make the transition a smooth one that fans can easily adjust to. This anime is highly recommended to all. Even if you're not sure, rent at least the first volume. And make sure it's either the DVD hybrid or Japanese subbed because the English, while a decent dub, falls far short of its Eastern alter-ego. All anime fans owe it to themselves to at least check this out.

Trigun is really two series in one. The first half is mostly episodic and hilarious, with Vash very much in control of the situation. (He doesn't even have to draw his gun until several episodes in.) The second half, starting with Legato's entrance in episode 12, is much darker and has a more continuous storyline. Things start to get more violent at this point also, and Vash faces some very serious tests of his ideals.

I love the light and goofy antics of the first part (Vash is just so cool!), but for my money the second half is even better. I can't think of a better word for it than "inspirational," as corny as that sounds. There's lots of food for thought about mistakes, redemption, and trying to live out ideals in a less-than-ideal world. The climax of the story comes around episodes 23-25; episode 26 is basically frosting.

I actually worry that when I like a series this much, I won't be able to write a fair review. So I'm trying to hold back on the raves and just give an idea what the series is like. Perhaps it will help if I add that Trigun completely won me over despite the fact that I don't enjoy Westerns at all.

Trigun is one of the best all-around animes out there. Part Star Trek, part The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, all cool. The character designs are fantastic, the animation is good for a TV show, and the stories are interesting. Personally, I prefer the much more serious tone of the later episodes, but the first two volumes are really funny. Overall, though I wouldn't call Trigun a comedy, despite the rather lighthearted first few episodes.
The first half of Trigun is fair to good, but the second half is what makes it great. the intense story line of Vash's hunt for Knives, going over and through the Gung Ho Guns that oppose him is both moving and entertaining. Vash develops through the series, becoming more of a real person and less of a clown. The fact that he's such a decent guy makes the audience really empathize with Vash, and we share in his joys and his heartbreaks. The final DVD volume is the best, we get to see Vash pushed to his breaking point and past it before coming face to face with Knives in a series finale that will give you shivers.
The pseudo-western world of Trigun gets more interesting with each new bit of information, and it's a novel and unusual setting. The combination of Sci-Fi and Western is really trippy and quite well done. The music fits well, and the opening theme really kicks ass. I have to recommend the dub for Trigun, since the voice of Johnny Yong Bosch suits the character of Vash perfectly, whereas the Japanese voice seems just stock, by the numbers reading.
There's action a-plenty in this series, but there is no really graphic violence or gore, and very little profanity, it's the equivilent of a PG. Still, the later episodes get rather intense, and there's lots o' gunplay, so parents take note.
If you're looking for a good starter-anime, or just a plain good one, Trigun is an ideal choice. Cool characters, decent animation, and engaging stories that are action-packed without being mindless (something Cowboy Bebop could benefit from) are what make Trigun great. The characters we follow in the series continue to grow and the final episode is a breathtaking, pay off conclusion to a wonderful series.

I find that if I am ever down, if I pop Trigun in the VCR, I laugh all my problems away. This is one of the funniest animes I have ever seen. The first tape or two are a lot of humor. But after that, the series takes a turn to the more serious side. I have seen through video 4 and I have rented video 5 and this series keeps getting better.
I love xiato's comparison between Vash and Kenshin. Both start out as happy-go-lucky people and are forced to resort to their old ways, to some degree, to protect themselves and the ones they love.
Vash is one of my favorite characters and he definitely ranks really high among the coolest looking people. Wolfwood is a great character the few episodes that I have seen him in (teaches you the meaning of holy firepower). Milly and Meryl are interesting, especially considering that one has a claw laucher while the other has a shitload of midnight specials.
The music fits the setting perfectly and is also quite good.
The story so far is great.

I think that Trigun is one of the funniest Anime TV series I've ever seen. It was a very good mix of action, adventure, and comedy. They did a great job with character development, especially with Vash the Stampede and the preacher man with the cross full of guns. The only thing that could have been better was the music, did not much care for the opening and closing music. I would suggest buying the DVD version, that way you will have both the sub and dub version of Trigun even though the dub version was very well done.

In Trigun we follow the character of Vash the Stamped, which is one of my favorite characters in a anime to date. The series does a great job with setting up this story of a man with a hidden past.
As far as whether you want in English or in Japanese, well I have to say Japanese for this one. I like the voice of Vash in both English and in Japanese, but in English the story looses some of the seriousness of the series.
This story is fantastic!! It starts out at a good speed, but half way through it gets wired. But it's wired in that great, "I can't take my eyes off of this" wired. So its all good. But by the end youll watch it again just to make sure you caught everything.
This anime is tied for my favorite anime of all times.

i get the feeling these reviews have probably been done without seeing past the first 1 or 2 volumes (all that's been commercially released so far, but i've seen a bit further in fansubs), so i think i should put a word in.
i would say either rent or buy, depending on your taste, but this is defenitely a cool series. the show actually starts to get progressively cooler/more serious right after the first 2 volumes. i must admit, after the first 2 volumes i wasn't particularly hooked, it was funny, but sometimes annoying and/or boring to me, with the deeper aspects of the show refusing to make much of an appearance, but after that, it gets progressively more serious... Vash's mysterious past begins to be poked into more, and an interesting new character who's somewhat of an equal to Vash (like in terms of gun skill and stuff... and also a preist, apparently, and a biseinen (biseinen; "a bishounen who needs to shave" :p) shows up, who, to me, makes the show ten times more fun to watch (he's cool ^_^). he shows up for a bit and then a few episodes later will become a main character, which feels very promising to me.
the last episode i saw, took a crazy turn to the darker side, and i haven't seen more since then, so i'm not sure if it stays this serious for the next while, or whether the dark and light moods of the show become more integrated. if this dark element keeps up, i'd describe the mood change somewhat like in Kenshin, from the lighthearted beginning which some don't care for so much because it's "filler", to the Kyoto arc which ditches all the jokes and becomes much more serious about the characters and plot and fighting, but perhaps slightly more abrupt.
actually, i'd say Vash is a rather parallel character to Kenshin in terms of his conflict about his fight ethic vs. his dark past, but with a more modern/ sci-fi type twist, with guns being the major weapon of choice.

This seems to be a very entertaining series. Art design and animation are strong throughout. Character design ranges from excellent on the main character (Vash) and the various villians, to solid but uninspired on the recurrent supporting characters.

The initial episodes do a good job of building likable characters, while maintaining a spirit of mystery. The flavor is light and fun, but the show has yet to develop signs of an overarching plot. The world is a convincingly portrayed mixture of American frontier West and science fiction. Overall, I'd say this was one to watch.
