Bloom Into You is a yuri romantic drama focused on the growing bond between high school students Yuu Koito and Touko Nanami, with the former being seemingly asexual as she doesn't seem strongly interested in relationships and the latter having romantic feelings for Yuu. At first, I had my concerns about Bloom Into You in its early episodes as the characters seemed a bit cookie-cutter with their personalities and it seemed like things would be rather bland with the plot direction of the series. But as episodes progressed, the series started to provide more fleshing out on its characters' personalities and backgrounds, as each one have their personal issues that they are trying to work around. This is best shown with the main relationship of the anime in the form of Yuu and Touko, with the former gradually questioning her asexuality as her bond with Touko develops and the latter wanting to retain her bond with Yuu while also struggling with her sense of self-worth as she is still coping with the loss of her older sister whom was highly regarded by others while still alive. The two are also conscious of how others may perceive their relationship and keep the true parts of their relationship private, a believable aspect of Japanese society since there is still some social stigma toward the LGBT community in spite of recent advances in legal rights for LGBT citizens. The only major knock I have against Bloom Into You is that the series does end inconclusively with character relationships and developments still ongoing, obviously due to its manga source material still ongoing as of the time this review was written up. Still, Bloom Into You is one of the better quality yuri anime titles I took great pleasure in seeing thanks to the solid developments in the characters and relationship between Yuu and Touko. I would definitely recommend seeing it at least once if you're a fan of yuri titles.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3576#628]
(Four episodes watched):

Here we have what might be called a Girl's Love anime. Perhaps because girls aren't as aggressive as men when it comes to love and sex, and because we get a good introduction to both main characters and see that they are almost certainly harmless and trustworthy people (and because they are girls), I could enjoy this show a good deal more than most Boy's Love anime. Episode one does little more than introduce the basic premise--what do you do when a popular girl in school, who has rejected something like ten confessions from boys, suddenly confesses to you? I had little idea what Yuu would do, but was eager to find out. But while episode one titillated me, episode two seemed very pedestrian in comparison. It's almost as if both girls have backed away from the awkward and emotionally charged situation they found themselves in previously. I didn't sense any sort of looming problem, which is kind of boring. I hoped things would get intense again fairly soon. In episode three the election for student body president injects a little tension. Feelings between Nanami and Yuu are evolving, though it wasn't completely clear to me in what ways. Where do they stand now? If they are not out-and-out lovers, are they lovers who don't realize it yet, or friends, or what? Not all that exciting. In episode four a problem of sorts emerges as a boy discovers Yuu and Nanami's secret. But I could not help feeling bored. This development doesn't intrigue me much; everything about this show that I had learned so far seemed to argue that it wouldn't get tense and exciting as a result of this potential threat. Perhaps the problem is that it seems that little has been done with the interesting premise that was introduced in episode one; as I re-read this review around a month into the show, I realized that I had already forgotten a good deal of it, because there has been little mention of it since then. Yuu and Nanami's relationship doesn't leave me feeling dirty like some anime do, on the contrary it is so spotlessly clean that it seems kind of dull. Perhaps it's because neither of them seems to have any major fault or problem that I can't get engaged with this story all that much. And when I'm not intrigued I don't remember much of what happened in the last episode, and everything goes downhill from there. As a result, I decided to quit this show.
