Cardcaptor Sakura, this movie creates both an adventure out of a new Clow card and a resolution to Sakura and Syaoran's relationship. In terms of the romance angle, Sakura is the one this time around who goes through the arkwardness of confessing to Syaoran. Much like the TV series though, Sakura's opportunities get interupted throughout much of the movie which can be a pain for some viewers. The presence of the Nothing card for this movie gets a decent explanation for why it exists in the movie though it was clear the purpose of its presence in this movie was to push the tension in the development of Syaoran and Sakura's relationship towards the end of the movie, especially with what has to be done to capture the card. Even with the focus on these two story elements, there is still time to focus on the other CCS characters. Touya still teases and has his 'sister complex' with Sakura. Tomoyo still obsesses over camcording Sakura and dressing her up for battles. Kero-chan is still his usual gluttonous, yet supporting self. Even, Meilin returns to help Tomoyo try bringing Sakura and Syaoran together. The movie format for this CCS movie takes good advantage of the higher budget by featuring smoother detail and color for artwork and character designs. However, there wasn't much in the way of fast or fluid actions from the characters which I found unusual with this movie. Despite some glaring flaws with plotting, this CCS movie is a worthwhile buy if you were in love with the TV series. Last updated Saturday, September 13 2008. Created Saturday, September 13 2008. |

This is good, but not quite as good as one might have hoped. The focus of this movie is Sakura-chan and Shaoran-kun and their love for each other. At the end of Cardcaptor Sakura, Shaoran confessed he was in love with Sakura. Sakura didn't give him a proper answer, but her feelings for him created an all-new, unnammed, 53rd Sakura Card. Now that he's back in town for a visit, it is time for her to confess her feelings, not an easy task for a 12-year old girl. The problem is that everytime she says, "Ano ne...", and begins to tell Shaoran how she feels, she's interupted. This happened a lot in the 3rd season of CCS too. To be honest, I don't care for that kind of plot device, but I guess the movie people did. Part of the problem I had with the movie was that while Sakura's cards are being slolen by the Nothing Clow Card, Kerberos and Yue don't seem overly concerned, nor does Sakura. She continues to reherse for the school play despite everything. The writers made the play a reflection of Shaoran's and Sakura's relationship. So when the Nothing Clow Card causes Yamazaki-kun to be injured so he can't play the part of the prince, Shaoran-kun takes his place. Yep, the play is more important than stopping the Nothing Clow Card from stealing the Sakura Cards and injuring Sakura's friends. The show must go on! Ugh! When the Nothing Card finally stops the play, Sakura-tachi (and company) finally get serious about this extra Clow Card. It was cool seeing how Meilin-chan has gone from jealous fiance in CCS to working with Tomoyo-chan to set various stages to get Sakura to confess to Shaoran. All of the cast from CCS make various cameo apperances which is nice. Tomoyo-chan's fawning over Sakura is still there, but one expects that by now. Of interest was that the relationship between Touya and Yukito seemed to be that of best friends again and not lovers. If anything, Touya showed that he's still overly interested in his sister. Fortunately, that's all of the odd relationship bits for this movie. The number of pan-and-scan still shots used in this movie was a bit of a disappointment. These are money-saving shots to be sure but in movies with their larger budgets, I didn't expect to see so many of them. Still, this is only a minor complaint. Bottom line: the wraps up the CCS saga pretty well and while there are a few problems, it is still worth owning if you liked the TV series.Last updated Thursday, April 29 2004. There are not much action figure in this movie, however. And Since most cards are stolen, there are not that much exciting magic show, either. Actually I almost fell in sleep when watching this, since it's path is slow. Last updated Saturday, January 11 2003. Created Saturday, January 11 2003. |
Sakura's the Movie series focuses on love more than friendship. The troubled caused by the Sealed Card is the background, the main idea is the love Sakura wants to express to Li.||||||||

Card Captor Sakura. As far as I can tell, this wraps up the series.
