I was expecting to get the 2004 CGI version of the series when I rented it from Netflix yet I winded up getting the 80s version by mistake. And by no means did I like seeing this adaptation. While the visuals were decent for an 1980s OAV, it was quite clear this movie had plenty it wanted to tell yet the choice of media format gives it very limited time to do so. There's barely any details covered on major characters like Deunan and Briareros and elements to the world to the series are only briefly mentioned, like the whole deal concerning bioroids and the problems some people have being in Olympus. It's the fact this series has much more it wanted to cover yet little time to do so that forces me to give it an Avoid rating. Next time I want to see Appleseed, better make absolutely certain it's the 2004 version.

I disliked the art in Appleseed. Despite a decent story, the art detracted from my enjoyment, and the subtitles were very hard to read. Masamune Shirow's mech designs actually translated quite well to animation, but the happy, bright, pastel coloring of the anime didn't fit the dark, serious story, and that really bugged me. It looked like Pokemon, so it was hard to take the characters seriously. This added shock value to the violent scenes. Still, it's definately worth a watch, and most people probably won't really care about the colors. So go watch it and enjoy the compelling ideas presented. Last updated Friday, January 19 2001. I actually liked the art and animation in this if anything I thought that you didn't get to know enough about the charaters and the story The colors were supposed to be bright to show that this fake world they had created had no problems. The violence only shows how much a farce there facade really was I agree though that this is one to watch I have the dubbed version and you probably don't want kids around unless you don't mind them learning alot of bad words the language is a little heavy in this one and I useually don't notice that. watch this don't bye Last updated Friday, January 19 2001.
