On a whim, the illustrious demon realm magician Romberg once adopted a human orphan, Ike. He taught Ike all of his own skills and left him with a set of advice: never reveal that he is actually human (he wears a skull-face mask), and never mention the ancient civilization that once existed in this land and which fascinated Romberg. Today Ike is the commander of the 7th 'undying' brigade of Demon Lord Dairokuten's army, and has caught Dairokuten's attention by taking the fortress city of Arsenam which had previously seemed impregnable. The Mato is an alternate dimension which is accessible via gateways, known as 'Doors', which have sprung up throughout Japan. Anyone who finds themself within it is at risk of being attacked by terrifying monsters known as Shuuki. They should hide and hope to be rescued by the Demon Defense Force, which is composed of human girls who have gained fantastic powers 'from the peaches that grow exclusively in Mato'(?). Yuuki Wakura, an ordinary boy whose only talents are his housekeeping skills, finds himself within the Mato and under attack by numerous Shuuki. Kyouka Uzen, leader of the 7th Squadron of the DDF, comes to his rescue. Kyouka's 'lousy' power is the ability to convert other people into 'slaves', which are fearsome fighting monsters. In this desperate situation she does just this to Yuuki, and is both surprised and pleased with the result. Kyouka decides that Yuuki may become an unofficial member of the DDF and while not in action shall serve as the caretaker of the protected 'dorm' that the DDF girls live in within the Mato. |

Kai Sakura Vento is a member of the Humanity Aegis Agency, part of a team whose job is to monitor the 'graveyard'. This black pyramid is the place where demons were sealed away after the cataclysmic 'Great War of the Five Races' in which humanity defeated the other four races, the Demons, Celestials, Spirits and Mythical Beasts. No demon has ever escaped from the Graveyard in the century since the war, but Kai takes his job very seriously nevertheless, much more seriously than his comrades Ashran and Saki. Then while off-duty one day Kai sees something that apparently no one else can--a warping of time and space that transfers him from a bustling and peaceful city to a desolated one in which Demons roam free.
