Kai Sakura Vento is a member of the Humanity Aegis Agency, part of a team whose job is to monitor the 'graveyard'. This black pyramid is the place where demons were sealed away after the cataclysmic 'Great War of the Five Races' in which humanity defeated the other four races, the Demons, Celestials, Spirits and Mythical Beasts. No demon has ever escaped from the Graveyard in the century since the war, but Kai takes his job very seriously nevertheless, much more seriously than his comrades Ashran and Saki. Then while off-duty one day Kai sees something that apparently no one else can--a warping of time and space that transfers him from a bustling and peaceful city to a desolated one in which Demons roam free. He is rescued by Ashram and Saki, but they have no memory of ever seeing him before.

(One episode watched):
On the one hand I'm curious about this alternate reality that Kai has been sent to--the result of a war that didn't go nearly as well for humans as the one he was taught about, I'm guessing. On the other I wish the enemy wasn't classic sword & sorcery races like elves, dragons, ghosts and angels. Their presence suggests a series that will be powered by magic rather than carefully written drama. But several plot threads are established in episode one, like Jeanne, a star of the HAA who Kai has known since they were children and it seems will be one of the main characters. Or 'Prophet Sid', a human hero of the war who supposedly wielded a fearsome magical sword, which Kai claimed to have seen while on a tour of the graveyard (with Jeanne's famous father) at age ten. Or the chained angel that Kai sees in some sort of experience at the beginning of the episode. I happened to notice that this show gets one of the worst ratings in the viewers poll at ANN.
