(One episode watched):
The ANN synopsis said this was a 'coming of age' story about various girls 'finding support in their lives', and made no mention of cheerleading, but that is clearly what it will be about. I wish some more effort and money had been invested in the animation of the cheerleading performance at the beginning of episode one, because it was hard to become excited by it. Apparently Kanata left her school's cheerleading squad recently (the team advisor says she 'cannot be replaced'), but we get no idea why, and at any rate it doesn't seem to be bothering her in any way. She has a friend, Megumi, who was once a fellow cheerleader but was stricken by some sort of illness and is now confined to a wheelchair (I was sure we'd be told she had been injured in a cheerleading accident which Kanata felt responsible for). We meet at least seven characters in rapid succession, but that many coming so fast leaves little room to develop any of them and they largely remain blank slates. I was annoyed by the physically impossible stunts that were performed. Obunai, the roof runner, makes jumps that would break the legs of a real person, and I'm sorry but running down a flight of stairs then up a similar one will not give you the momentum to fly (not leap) forty feet in the air. Kanata would have to have been launched from a catapult to 'fly' like she did, and her landing would not be pretty. Surely these girls will form a cheerleading squad--Obunai is incredibly agile, Shion is 'a talented gymnast', Kanata an experienced veteran--but that idea has yet to occur to any of them at the end of the episode. Nothing about this show or its characters struck me as particularly unusual or interesting and I think I will pass.
