Art, Animation & Character Designs The art and animation was about average. It was on par with many other anime out there. Character designs were well done even if they were your stereotypical designs. Rinia (our protagonist), was sorta cute, a bit clumsy, but cute. Music The OP wasn't too bad. It was a typical pop piece with female vocals. As for the rest of the music, just some light pieces not really noticeable. Series and Episode Story The plot had holes everywhere. I had no clue what was going on and where it was going. Although the 3 episodes (the only 3), was entertaining, you're pushed into the plot with knowledge you're expected to have of the series or the characters. Rinia (our protagonist), seemed like an interesting character and given more episodes, she could have developed more. Well, i could say that for most of the characters. Takahiro, our facility head, was about the only character who's background was explored.... and that wasn't much to speak of. However, with all that said, it was still enjoyable to watch. What little was going on in the episodes had bits of humor, silliness. Overall, it was mildly entertaining if only for the bits of humor. This is one of those that you could watch in-between anime episodes. Last updated Wednesday, April 29 2009. Created Wednesday, April 29 2009. |
The synopsis is what made this interesting, thus I picked it up. It was a short and confusing series, or rather OVA.||||||||

*Having done a little research, it seems Moekan was in fact based on a Hentai dating simulation game! Perhaps that explains the plan to convert Rinia into a "Sexaroid". Disjointed and confusing, but also sweet and moving. Last updated Monday, March 03 2008. Created Wednesday, March 23 2005. |
I'm not sure what to make of this series. It opens with a grim scene of a burning city in ruins... and a couple minutes later Rinia is shouting "Don't look at my panties!". It almost feels as if three episodes were yanked from a 13- or 26-episode series, because very little was explained. Why, for example, was the "Moekko Corporation" so angry at Takahiro? I was thrown for a loop when, in the final episode (unless there are more in the works) a subtitled note showed up which said Takahiro was able to "control water and shadows freely"(?!). It's as if the makers were assuming that everybody who would watch Moekan would have already read some manga version of the story.* But, all things considered, I wound up liking Moekan, mainly because it was surprisingly thoughtful and touching at times. At first I wasn't sure if it was genuinely touching, or just corny. But things like Takahiro not wanting to get too close to the android maids, since they'll graduate and leave the island eventually, and Rinia wondering what it means to be alive--you don't get this sort of stuff from robot maid genre shows very often. Rinia is a highly sympathetic character that I wanted to know more about; as a classic Moe girl she is both cute and has a distinct weakness, namely her loss of memory. Had she and Takahiro met at some time in the past? It would have been easy to make the mistake of thinking that Rinia was the only android, and all the other maids were real live girls. The biggest blunder in the making of this series was the laughable design of the enemy robots that attack the island--they needed to be scary, not silly. The ending does make some sense, even if you knew nothing going into this series. If only the three episodes had been less disjointed, or perhaps more episodes had been included to better explain the plot. But all things considered, I liked Moekan--if I hadn't, I wouldn't have just rewatched it.||||||||

While having to remember nightmares of a past time in which the civilized world was destroyed, Kanzaki Takahiro, now heads a D-class training facility where the female androids who support the current society are trained in various domestic and protective duties.
The loss of human life has created a societal dependency on an almost human android life form, and most of the androids appear as young female constructs. An emotionally cold and removed Takahiro has found a safe duty in his job as chief administrator of the training facility, at least until an old and undocumented android named Rinia is brought to his facility for combat maid training.
The all too imperfect and emotionally unstable android Rinia, who has forgotten most of her memories of the past, succeeds in breaking Takahiro?s defensive shell of ice, and he finds in her silliness an ability that allows him to laugh out loud.
In a story where female androids can behave just like human young ladies, androids dare to ask questions about love, life and mortality. The main character Takahiro has to confront and emotionally involve himself with a number of very human like female androids, and find an answer to the question as to what is human and what defines an android?but perhaps it is all a question of the heart.
A three part OVA (each episode about 30 minutes in length, and each adding to the previous, to add up to a 90-minute movie)?.
