Here's another one I watched a while back but failed to comment on. I rewatched it so I can give a proper review. Art, Animation & Character Designs The artwork was about par with most other anime. Nothing special here. Same can be said about the animation. Character designs were unique and illustrated well. Our protagonist (Rusyun) is well endowed.... maybe a bit.... ermmm.... top heavy? Music The OP was sorta cool. It was an alternative piece with female vocals that actually sounded pretty good. Series and Episode Story The first thought that came to mind as I watching the first episode was Trigun. However, to say it's comparible to Trigun is like saying a Corona (beer) is a lot like Budweiser.... not comparible at all. But I thought of Trigun since my first impressions were a female "Vash" in a western/feudal style setting. The villians are all unique and makes for fun fight scenes. The plot was pretty straitforward and entertaining. The ending was nicely done while wrapping things up cleanly. Overall, it was a decent and entertaining series. Ok, I watched this cuz i saw Rusyuna on the cute girls with guns list and i said whoa! i got to check this chick out...Well to my suprise, i actually liked this show...alot of action, and a nice story line to boot...Maybe Rusyuna was overdrawn in certain areas, but I actually thought it was humurous how she was able to change her bullets out...I also dig characters with special abilities, especially bad guys, so this show worked out well for me...

One form of anime that I really like are action-comedies that manage to bounce back and forth between the two genres in a skillful manner, and basically present both hilarious comedy and believable, engaging action--shows like Bleach and Black Cat come to mind. I think the trick is that the changeovers from one genre to the other are well-defined, and therefore I always know which genre we're in. The impression of Grenadier I'm left with is of a show which walks a tightrope between action and comedy, and which one has priority isn't always so obvious. Are the wild tactics which Rusyuna, Ya-chan, and their opponents employ meant to be taken seriously, or are they jokes? I was frequently uncertain. As I watched the first episode, and anxiously searched for hints as to whether this series would be worth the time and trouble, I was in a state of confusion; the show seemed pretty simplistic and unexceptional--until Rusyuna went wild, which had me laugh-out-louding. Grenadier is in fact a fun show, with a more-or-less plausible (and not overcomplicated) plot, a satisfying conclusion, plus likeable characters. It doesn't really try to be exceptional, but does a good job of being average (if that makes any sense). Considering it has a mere twelve episodes to work with, that's an achievement in itself. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Anime Works still exists, and I appreciate the inclusion of an interview with part of the Japanese staff--all too often DVD Extras only include interviews with persons who only took part in the dubbing process, and know little about how the series as a whole came to exist.  Girls Bravo. After a few episodes I realized this is actually a Pacifist comedy. It tries to teach you that violence isn't the only thing and the most important thing is a smile. Rushuna is going around trying to teach everyone that violence doesn't solve anything and Yajiro is her first convert. It's really a high rent but it is only a short 12 episodes. Can we say . Samurai-western? Yojirou is your more typical very competent, but shy, samurai swordsman, who is both entranced and shocked by Rusyaunas appearance and behavior. Rusyuana, while appearing to be nothing more than full figured innocent and idealistic princess-type, with absolutely no modesty, she shows a very different side when in combat. She wields her six-chambered revolver with the grace of .a samurais sword? And when she needs to reload, she spins around, opening the chamber to spill out the empties, while a fresh reload pops up from between her two errr hummm .from her chest somewhere, which she catches mid air, and she completes her spin firing off the new rounds. The enemies (or bad guys of the western movies) that they confront are armed with rifles and gatteling guns. The very bad guys appear to have high tech weapons, and are armed with robots and perhaps, magic. I have only seen two episodes, so I really dont know where this is going, but if you like Samurai 7 or perhaps, Full Metal Alchemist, then you would probably enjoy this series.
