Somehow, star student Allen has failed the Court Sorceror Exam. His professor was certain he'd pass easily, but no matter, the professor has another occupation lined up for him. Allen will be serving as a private tutor to the daughter of Walter Howard, who is head of one of the Great Four Ducal Houses. His student will be Tina Howard, who seems to have virtually no magical ability at all yet is determined to enroll in the Royal Academy next Spring. Duke Howard would actually prefer that Tina be convinced not to do so, but will allow it if Allen can teach her enough magic to meet the basic requirements.

(One episode watched):
I bet we'll find that Tina is actually an outstanding magician (though not quite as good as Allen), and has only been kept from achieving amazing things by some fluke that was in no way her fault. Because that's how it always seems to turn out in magic-themed anime. Judging from the illustration on ANN Allen will also accumulate a harem of subordinate female magicians--because, again, that's how it almost always goes. One of the first is Ellie, daughter of the head butler at the Howard mansion and a girl who also has magical ambitions. Another is Lydia, the eldest daughter of Duke Leinster, and apparently a pretty haughty girl ('The albatross around my neck') who Allen has met but as of yet we have not. She becomes jealous when she learns that Allen is tutoring Tina, which, yet again, is predictable. The problem is that we don't seem to be learning much about what makes Allen himself tick. He's a highly skilled magician but otherwise hasn't really revealed any secrets about himself. And magic itself doesn't particularly thrill me. Nevertheless I think I will watch episode two. Tina and Ellie have sincere ambitions which it might be nice to see accomplished.
