This mini-TV series is meant to conclude Kanbaru's storyline from the Monogatari franchise, taking place after Araragi and Senjougohara's graduation and in Kanbaru's final year of high school. Hanamonogatari provides some more fleshing out of her character as we learn of some past connections she has to Kaiki and a classmate on her team from middle school, the latter serving as the catalyst of Kanbaru's growth in this series as she comes to grips with the oncoming changes in her life such as her two close friends no longer being around and the loss of the devil arm that she had been bound to for years. Like much of the franchise, Hanamonogatari does very well at building its events up and fleshing out the vital characters within this story arc, as well as mixing in bits of the franchise's trademark elements like long-winded conversations on relevant and irrelevant affairs and the occasional sexual humor and fan service. In addition, the animation quality for the series retains the regular animation style and level of detail that Shaft's poured into earlier installments of the series. If you've seen the various Monogatari titles that have aired over the past five years, this is a definite title worth checking out.
