This felt rather dull and I question what relevance it even has in the Tenchi Muyo franchise. Saint Knight's Tale supposedly takes place in a parallel universe within the same continuity as the Tenchi Muyo OVAs with a boy named Kenji finding enough damn girls attracted to him and having to deal with the threat of Babalun and his regime on the world of Geminar. Rather than being a unique work though, Saint Knight's Tale appears to recycle ideas from past works done by Masaki Kajishima. Mixing mecha with harem anime was done before with Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure. Some of the concepts and character names for Saint Knight's Tale were used in the OVA series, Photon. Also, the series recycles the same character design and concept for Tenchi Muyo with Kenji donning the similar design used for the male lead of many Kajishima works and being a doormat to an unwanted harem of girls who have varying degrees of affection for him. The first half of the series is most comedic filler with Kenji dealing with the many girls attracted to him, while the second half of the series deals with the serious threat that Babalun posed to Geminar. Both plot developments are rather standard, with Babalun being your typical baddie out for world domination and having little in the way of depth or personality. While there's a decent amount of personality fleshed out to Kenji's character, the large female cast swooning over him are rather bland and archetypal in character. Sure they get some background and roles to fulfill in the series, but the lack of dimension on their characters makes it hard to care for any of these girls to root for in wooing Kenji compared to Tenchi and his harem who show varying personality traits for one to care for them. Also for a series supposedly associated with the Tenchi franchise, Saint Knight's Tale doesn't really have much linking it to Tenchi Muyo. Outside of some mentions of his life with Tenchi and the girls from Kenshi, none of the characters from past Tenchi titles make much of an appearance (only Washu in cameo in the form of a silhouette) nor any of the major elements of the franchise like Jurai or the Galaxy Police. You could pretty much just ditch the nods to Tenchi Muyo and this would still feel completely unrelated to the series franchise. Even as a Tenchi fan, I find it hard to really recommend Saint Knight's Tale. With hardly any appearance of elements and characters from past titles in the OVA continuity, this series is rather forgettable for me. Last updated Friday, August 09 2013. As a spinoff to the Tenchi Muyo universe, I expected this to be very good. In this case, my expectations were on the mark. The story is about Kenshi Masaki, the half-brother of Tenchi Masaki (if you follow the series, he's the protagonist of the TM universe) and was sent to a alien world where the population consisted of mostly women. The synopsis above should cover it. There are a couple of holes in the story which made it a bit hard to follow, but it looks like there might be another season to this series. It would be nice thing if that happened because then it shows how well the TM universe was made. I certainly give credit to the writers and animation staff for this spinoff. Back to the review though. The overall visuals were stunning at times but certainly never dropped off. The animation was great along with the characters. All of them served some purpose, even if it was a short role. Even though I am a huge TM fan, I'm being quite honest when I say that this could very well be a series on it's own pending a few changes to story. I think this could very well stand out from the TM universe and become it's own independent series from TM. There are some episodes that do drag on but it still holds it's own. What struck me was the fact that Kenshi and Tenchi are so dissimilar to each other. Kenshi seems to be more timid (more like submissive) around women than Tenchi. He is akso more intelligent at times which boggles me but my guess is that growing up with the people around him made him to what he is now. What makes them similar was the fact that both are very compassionate. They exude a lot of care around people they come to be close with. That brings this series as close to the TM universe as possible. The wacky harem style of this series also bring it close as well. What intrigues me is that even though the background of how Kenshi was in that world was never really brought about but if you watch the last episode, then it might come to you as speculation as how he got there. That's for another day, though. I'm trying to think if there were any cons, but it looks like aren't any memorable ones to mention. The story was well written, the animation was great, and the characters in the series were definitely superb. If ever gets to the state, I will be one of the first people to get in line and grab it off the shelves. This really deserves a Buy rating. If you are a TM fan, it's a must. If you're a harem watcher, it's a must. If you like comedy, fantasy, and humor wrapped into one, this series will grab your attention...to keep it simple, get it. Last updated Saturday, July 17 2010. Through 10 episodes... Started off with nice table setting and action before shifting to a much heavier comedy-adventure aspect. Through six episodes, there's LOTS of ecchi humor and fanservice, some decent comedy, a lot of fun stories and characters, and some slow advancement of the main plot. This series has been released directly to DVDs as thirteen 45min-long OVA episodes (so lets consider this 26 - 1/2hour episodes). I have to share that I am really enjoying this series. The characters, their dialogue and interactions remind me of Tenchi GXP, but given that this is supposed to be part of the ↗canon Tenchi series, I can't claim to be surprised. And the level of fanservice seems to on pare with GXP as well. A 15-year-old kid (Kenji Masaki) finds himself trapped on a strange planet and at the mercy of local factions who are committed to assassinating a young princess before her coronation ceremony. Being a stranger and a rare male pilot capable of operating the 10-meter tall Seiki combat robots, Kenji is falsely promised a return to home planet, but only if can succeed in killing the princess. One thing leads to another and Kenji somehow ends up in the company of the princess and the cute girls that serve as her security and house staff. (Can we say.... Harem?) YEAH!! Buxom ELF girls with cute Elf ears!! YEAH!! This series has succeeded in recalling all of the original Tenchi series' charm and magic, and tells a thoroughly enchanting and entertaining tale of magic and adventure !!
