Late one night, Afro is suddenly attacked by Jinno. However, he is unable to protect himself, and Jinno drags him nearby to his father's grave, where a woman named Sio awaits. She proceeds to take the Number One headband that he possesses, as well as the remains of his dead father's skull. Before leaving, she tells him to seek and obtain the Number Two headband, if he wants the right to take back his father's remains. With that, Afro must once again embark on a path of violence in order to let his father rest in peace once again. (Source: ANN)

This sequel to Afro Samurai is nothing but a poor excuse for Gonzo and Funimation to milk money from fans of the first movie. While the original movie at least had a somewhat coherent plot with decent characterization despite its cliched "revenge" storyline element, the story to this movie seemed thrown together and barely holding things up as it lacks the depth that the first movie gave Afro through the flashbacks we seen of him and the greater focus on the present time frame means you get to see more of Afro as an adult in all his shallow and unlikeable glory. And don't even get me started on the contrived plot device thrown at the end of the movie for Afro to prevail in the end. Only Ninja Ninja's usual wise-mouth humor and the intense, fluid battle scenes retained from the first movie prevent me from wanting to dump this movie with an Avoid rating. If you want mindless action with enough blood and gore to go around, then you are quite likely gonna enjoy this sequel to Afro Samurai. Anyone else should steer as far away from Afro Samurai Resurrection as far as possible.

Let me start this review by saying that the art and animation in this feature are simply amazing, it is worth watching for that much alone. Afro Samurai Resurrection boasts some of the best animated fight scenes, par with Ninja Scroll. The dark brooding atmosphere also sets a suitable mood for the blood splattering extravaganza.

But where this movie really falls down for me is that the protagonist, Afro, is so god damn hateable! He is a cold hearted, remourseless murdering bas**rd! It is true what his enemies and the so called "villians" say about him: he is selfish, killing only for his own needs not thinking about who he may harm and that he has filled the world with chaos and bloodshed. What makes him more annoying is the fact that you assume that he would understand what the pain feels like of having a close one murdered yet he continues without holding back.

His aim in this film is to retrieve his father's body and again he kills anyone he has to in order to get there but from the end you will see that it is all pointless so it begs you to question what was the point in his journey (I won't give away why). There is alos quite a stupid moment at the ending which again you will need to see for yourself.

Apart from that this movie is a treat if you enjoy violent, gory, samurai anime.

Unholy Vengeance, Bonds Deeper than Blood, and the old-fashioned "In Your Face" Attitude...

Now this is one Hell of a sit-down and enjoy movie! Afro is back and man, is he more brutal than ever before. With the death of his father still lingering in the back of his mind, Afro struggles to continue on with his life (or what is left of it in his eyes). Little does he know that the legend of the headbands are real and those who dare wear them are doomed to live a life of blood, suffering, and death.

The past returns to torment Afro as his former friends and loved ones return from the grave and beyond in order to exact revenge on him for what transpired last time around. Expect massive amounts of blood, ridiculous dismemberment, and a battle against an enemy that will surely leave you holding your stomach in agony...

This movie also features undeniably excellent visuals. Slick, rough, and straight to the point; the visuals in this title were "in your face" for sure. Though too dark in most scenes for my tastes, this movie's colors and overall presentation leave little to be desired. From the headbands blowing in the wind, to blood squirting on your screen; this movie was kick-a** with fluid animation and powerful character designs (albeit it be mostly cyborgs and the ravaged face of Afro himself).

The music is another selling point of this title. Even if you loved the music or hated it, the beats were chosen to fit the situations in the movie. We got the "somebody's gonna die" tone, you get your "chill out and laugh" songs, and you have the "let's end this" beats. All good stuff to fit the mood of the events in the movie.

All in all, Afro Samurai: Resurrection is one movie that can be viewed with no regrets. I mean how can anyone deny all that blood, swords clashing, Sio (the buxom babe), one flash sex scene (it was quick), and the gansta-a** guy who follows Afro around all day and speaks on his behalf as comedic-relief for the viewer. I had crazy fun watching this movie and I bet you will too.

I got places to be and more anime to see so I'll see you on the flip side "G"...
