Shizuru and Mizuki are sisters born in a family with spiritual abilities. While the older one, Shizuru, is able to see spirits, goblins and stuff like that, the younger one, Mizuki, has a propensity for getting possessed.

As their calm and peaceful days of youth progress, they have many encounters which lead them to respect and treasure life and all its beauties and marvels.

This is a story about the experience of youth and growing up. In one word, spiritual.

Based on the seinen manga by Kumakura Takatoshi, serialised in Afternoon.

This was a decent little supernatural/ coming of age title to look into as it reminded me enough of Natsume's Book of Friends and Mushishi. Like Natsume, it deals with youth who can interact with spirits and learning to cope with them as they live out their normal lives. Like Mushi-shi, Mokke features a lesson to be taught in each of its episodes involving either Shizuru or Mizuki or those whom they interact with connected to spirits. Like both titles, the stories told throughout Mokke are self-contained in each episode where one of the girls come across a spirit and learn a valuable lesson on life as a result of dealing with it. As Jan-Chan explains, each episode runs at a slow pace to give the viewer enough time to get familiar with the gist of each episode's story and while the series appears aimed at a younger crowd, it's still a charming title for older viewers to check out without making you feel too embarrassed watching it. The scenery to Mokke is perhaps the show's best visual feature with plenty of vivid colors and detail to show off areas like forests, gardens, temples and the the home of Mizuki and Shizuru's grandparents. However, I did find the animation and character designs to be a bit on the plain side. Still, this was a worthwhile title for me to check out thanks to the self-contained stories of growing up that the girls go through. If you enjoyed Mushi-shi, you should be able to get similar enjoyment out of Mokke.

Rent Jan-Chan [series:1721#967]
A coming-of-age story of two sisters who live with their grandfather in a rural country village.

The grandfather of the girls is a priest/shamen who is knowledgeable in the ways of spirits and the supernatural, and girls have inherited the 'gift' of seeing these creatures.

So as DD mentioned, this series shares a lot in common with Mushishi, but it appears to oriented for a younger crowd.

The animation is great, the story is slow and deliberate, the characters cute and fun, and while the mysteries might be scary, they are never terrifying.

This is the type of anime that a gaggle of ten-year-old girls can sit around, munching on popcorn and spend evening enjoying.

Unevaluated Devil Doll [series:1721#752]
Um... a crossover between Mushishi and Binbou Shimai Monogatari? The OP song sounds nice.
