To Heart 2 Dungeon Travellers]
By far the best release of the School Days franchise, better than School Days (ONA) and even more fun than the School Days OVA bonus episode. If ever an OVA screamed "parody" (most notably of the own series but of other anime and movie stuff as well), it might have been this one. Lots of wonderful jokes, such as the battle cry of the heroines, the transformation sequence analysis, some breaking of the fourth wall, the whole talk about payment, the missing outlet, the game references, the Godzilla references, the "bloody conclusion", even the "nice boat" in the end. My only complaint would be the horrible OP vocals. I hardly ever laughed so much about an anime. This is the just reward for having watched the series before (without which most of the jokes wouldn't have worked of course). Last updated Saturday, April 28 2012. My favorite line: "Surrender or you'll get a magical brain cleaning!" --Magical Heart Last updated Monday, May 19 2008. Created Monday, May 19 2008. |
I was pleasantly surprised by this clever and genuinely funny parody of mahou shoujo shows. I had been thinking that comedy spinoffs of School Days would be seriously handicapped by the viewer's knowledge of the grisly fate in store for several major characters. But that didn't prove to be a problem at all as this show took of running and maintained a good pace all the way to the end. Indeed, the crew even dared to joke about the way the TV series concluded, which must have taken a lot of confidence about the quality of this OVA. Characters from the TV series were cleverly reassigned new, secret identities--I especially liked the choice for the chief villain. The result is a tongue-in-cheek parody which ridicules the inherent absurdity of the genre, and works because it is funny (plenty of fanservice, too). I would say this is almost certainly the best of all the incarnations of School Days.||||||||

the Valentine's Day OAV, this latest OAV of School Days takes a dive into the comedy department. This time, the OAV takes jabs at its own fandom, the majou shoujo genre, sentai shows, and the very H-game genre the series draws its origins from. However, this baby is much more loaded with fan service and nudity from the characters than you would get out of the TV series so be prepared to get more ecchi content out of this title than usual. Besides nudity, also expect some bloody shenanigans from Kotonoha's murderous self. All the gags that come along from this OAV are as random and nonsensical as seeing an episode of Excel Saga. If you want more out of School Days, then this OAV will give you more of a treat with comedy like the Valentine's Day special. But stay away if you can't handle fan service heavy anime titles like this one. Last updated Sunday, May 18 2008. Created Sunday, May 18 2008. |
