My Bride is a Mermaid is a mostly obnoxious type of anime gag comedy with many of the characters being defined by whatever running gag they are endlessly pulling off (Nagasumi being series butt monkey, Sun's father continually wanting to kill him, Maki berating Nagasumi, etc...) and being heavily dependent on loud and bombastic moments of humor to carry itself. While having a few moments of humorous comedy such as the Terminator nods with Lunar's father and ridiculous attempts to implement dating-sim cliches with parenting, these are sadly buried too deep into the repetitious moments of humor that the series is plagued with. Overall, a rather irksome and forgettable entry in the anime comedy genre.

Romance : Low to Aver Comedy : Above High Drama : Aver Opinion : Above High The OP song is pretty funny yet sounds 78% good ( Romantic Summer sung by Sun and Lunar ) So is its ending , pretty warm song ( Asu he no Hikari sung by Hinoi Asuka ) This anime suitable for all ages , nevertheless it's waste to pass it .It's a story of a boy named Michisio Nagasumi who went to beach with his family in his summer vacation .Happened to drown into the seas and saved by a beautiful yet cute and funny mermaid named Seto San(Sun).Due to the fact that mermaid's existence is being exposed , Nagasumi ended up have to take San as his bride .And her parents are Yakuza.Well ,Comedy scenes is quite a lot .I love the part of Nagasumi being CPR-ed by Masa , ended up everytime Nagasumi meets Masa , He always said "ah Masa-san . . the man that i gave my first kiss" wow ! no one will able to hold their laugh .Later , there is also a lot of funny characters such as Lunar(looks like a witch behind her cute make-up) , Hideyoshi Sarutobi(friend of Nagasumi that resembles monkey , fit perfectly to his name ) , etc .Here, you will enjoy Nagasumi's everyday thorny journey being hunted everyday by his own father-in-law , Seto Gozaburou .Every episodes just get funnier and funnier.I was hoping for its second season if there was . Rating : 95% Meaning of this anime "Every each day you have spent with somebody is precious ,especially with someone you hold dearly " Advice "Never forget to cherish the important moments , you might regret it if you did " That's all :D also these anime characters will be in my future anime P.S : my friend said it's not funny at all , hahaha :D Last updated Wednesday, January 04 2012. Art, Animation & Character Designs Artwork was more or less on par with countless other anime. There are times though that the artwork, mostly the backgrounds seemed quite detailed and rich in color. Animation however seemed to be a pretty low frame rate, thus making it look choppy. Character designs were not bad. They were about on par as well. Music The OP was a pop-rock piece with female vocals. It actually wasn't to bad. After a few times listening to it, it actually didn't sound too bad. As for the rest of the soundtrack, we have some basic string instruments and other quiet pieces here and there. Nothing really noticeable. Series and Episode Story Somehow, I just didn't like our protagonist. Well, more times than not, I really don't care for the main character anyhow. But here, I found him quite annoying. But that didn't ruin the series at all. There's plenty of violent humor as well as slapstick. The laughter here is non-stop. About midway through the series, we get more serious and the plot actually starts taking shape. Note: Episode 14 was so funny I was seriously cramping up on the sides had tears in my eyes. Overall, there's a good mix of humor, story and plain fun. The plot is good too. Last updated Monday, November 30 2009. Created Monday, November 30 2009. |

HONORABLE MENTION ANIME WINNER - Funniest Anime Would you look at that... I saw a few episodes of this at the anime club in my university. I laughed my a** off with this title (though it was subbed and I never knew the name of it). In spite of that, here it is again on the best website ever produced (LOL). Better believe i'm going to finish it now that i've found it again... Series completed just like I said I would... final review soon... Ep 5 was a dangerously funny episode! When Nagasumi kicks the hell out of Saru (his friend) and they look like street fighters about to fight with super-saiyan auras, I couldn't stop laughing!!! Then when Saru leaves him to be crazy with Maki who is thought to be a doll, I was crackin' up like you wouldn't believe. Next, he had to avoid the shark teacher in one second (literally), I was in tears with tissues everywhere. Nagasumi laughed at his own stupidity as he knows it was foolish to try to stay with San’s folks taking over the school like that. Now, whenever someone says Negasumi-kun, I bust out with laughter and I can’t help it. It's as if i've been conditioned to laugh with just his name!!! LOL. I’m in big trouble with this anime it seems. The laughs come to a halt at the end of episode 12 and the series is finally ready to begin to take the direction it will follow in terms of drama. Ep 14 did it again! I was on the ground laughing when the cat made San's father hit the fire alarm and Kai called for his air and naval forces to completely lock down the school! LOL. It was too much and I couldn't stop laughing! I thought I was going to die! When the cat claimed one of the elite squad killers and San's dad tells him to hold on but he knows he is a goner and all hope is lost, I had unstoppable tears flowing from my eyes! This anime series is truly the funniest anime in the world! Even the stupid episodes are still funny. Ep 20 was an absolute waste of time but had laughing through the whole ep. That is a rare thing for me to say a stall ep was still good in the end! It just makes me remember how funny this series has been so far and how insane it's going to be now that i've reached the final string. Ep 21 and 22 were funny as hell. They both had me holding my stomach and I was in tears from the pain of laughter. I can't believe the team that made this masterpiece. There really is nothing I can say to describe the ridiculousness of this title. I'm to exhausted from laughing to explain what i'm thinking now. I'll probably have to wait a day after I finish the series to calm down a bit. Ep 24 did it again!!! I can't take anymore of this. I can't believe how this title came out of nowhere and dominates the others like this. There was never any chance of another comedy coming close to this one. I had trouble breathing properly during the whole freakin' episode!!! Can somebody say "monopoly" in the comedy department? Check out my award list to see some of the best anime titles in the world! The main character is a wimpy young man who is ABSOLUTELY terrified by his fiancé’s father and his business associates (errr… a fishy Yakusa gang). While Nagasumi tries (very hard) to be a gentleman with San, he is always being chased after and terrified by her papa and his 'friends' – which comprises a lot of the humor in this story, so expect a lot of wimply SD action. And while Nagasumi’s papa is similarly afraid of his new in-laws, his mum has a hotty fascination for the handsome and suave right-hand-man of the father of her son’s new bride!?! Lets not mention that this slick & greasy Yakusa thug also ‘stole’ Nagasumi’s first kiss! And then there was that ring thing that happened in the 3rd episode! It seems to me that someone is really stretching for the off-the-wall humor in this series. Otherwise one can expect fish-boys in space suits, full fledged school riots over 'who is the prettiest girl on campus' and all sorts of off-the-wall mayhem and weirdness. I have to rate this lower than it probably should because I have some problems the main character - I really don't like him. So for me this series rates a (watch+) or a (rent-). But it is still a fun watch, as long as you don't mind a story that plays into the comedy by drifting and staggering about like a drunken sailor. ||||||||

(All episodes watched): By all rights, Seto no Hanayome should have been a favorite of mine, with wacky characters, outlandish comedy, and reportedly made by the same team as Magikano, which I did enjoy--but somehow I was never really able to get into it. I'm still racking my brain to figure out why. Maybe the characters didn't develop enough. There was some comedy development, like Nagasumi becoming a Fist of the North Star sort of guy, but it wasn't serious. I don't recall any radical change in any character's personality throughout the series. Maybe a number of characters weren't particularly likeable to begin with, being angry, hostile and even out-and-out criminals. Maybe the longterm plot was too confused; the series was largely episodic and the individual episodes are a blurr in my memory at the end. Maybe it was more weird than actually funny--I don't recall LOLing all that often. Maybe for all the weirdness, there wasn't all that much truly original about this show. And maybe a lot of minor problems combined to weigh down this series to the point that, though I was still willing to watch it, I wasn't particularly looking forward to the next episode. This is a show which got off to a slow start to begin with, and I became tempted to stop watching it altogether. I was somewhat disappointed by the opening episode. There seemed to be a positive buzz about regarding this series, and I was impatient for my computer to download it, but when it finally did and I'd finished watching the episode, I couldn't help feeling somewhat unimpressed. I don't recall ever seeing a mermaid in anime before, but pretty much everything else was all too familiar--yakuza-like thugs, slapping and punching, unsympathetic parents (although just having parents in the first place is fairly unusual these days), and above all, getting forced into marriage with a cute girl. The mermaid element almost seemed tacked-on as a mere stunt to garner interest; I mean, did anybody else have a fish tail? The comedy seemed somewhat forced--characters that were frightening/annoying were supposed to be funny, but they didn't seem that way to me. I would especially like to strangle Maki if I ever get a chance! No doubt this will be worth a watch, but not crazy enough was my initial impression. Why did they need a disclaimer at the end? For awhile I had demoted this to my "meal show", i.e. a mediocre program just barely worth watching, which I would view while eating. Yet, at one point I noticed that, hey, I'm laughing as I watch this! The new character Mawari was fun, and the fact that Nagasumi himself posseses some common sense is helpful as well. Episode ten, a Terminator parody, was especially good. There were still problems (this one definitely didn't match the quality of Magikano as I remember it), but Seto no Hanayome was restored to it's previous status among the countless titles I was watching. The final episode offered a pleasing conclusion for Nagasumi and San, using not too original but tried-and-tested devices for a rousing conclusion. But what about Mawari? What about the glasses girl? What about the guy who can't stand sunshine? Maybe another problem I had with this series was that generally disfunctional people are meant to be laughed at, but for the most part they seemed more pitiful/annoying than funny to me. San and Nagasumi (and San's mother) are practically the only more-or-less level headed people to be found; Saru's problem being mere stupidity makes him relatively well off! I've got a feeling that most people would enjoy this show more than I did. I wouldn't be surprised if it recieved a great deal of praise once it is (presumably) R1 licensed. I still can't put my finger on exactly why Seto no Hanayome didn't thrill me. All I know is that it was good enough for me to watch it 'til the end. My favorite line: "Reality is reality and idol is idol! This is this and that is that!" --Nagasumi Last updated Thursday, November 29 2007. Created Tuesday, May 08 2007. |

OMG it took forever for someone to fansub this thing...since my japanese is very limited, watching the RAW versions were painful.
The story is not only interesting, but fun...the opening song is catchy, and i look forward to watching more...

Well this is my #1 show ever! I don't know how it did it, but it delivered a funnier streak and with a WALLOP of a 2 episode ending. This is what Magikano promised but fell down right at the end. The ending is as powerful as Episode 12 of Maburaho but does it with 26 episodes. So Maburaho, move over. An anime that isn't even R1 kicked you to the side. What I liked About it?
