It started off decently enough, but Pokemon has turned into one big repetitive mess, regardless of whatever updates have been done in the series. This repetition applies to Satoshi throughout his Pokemon journey in this cycle: he gets Pokemon, goes to gyms, battles leaders, Team Rocket crashes in, Satoshi's gullible enough to use Pikachu in each battle though Team Rocket makes all their creations electric-proof, Satoshi and/ or another trainer use other Pokemon in their place, free Pikachu, Team Rocket's blown up to the air, Satoshi gets his badge, and the cycle repeats. Even with the changes in environments, new Pokemon, and characters, this same repetitious cycle occurs with the TV series. But, a few episodes of the series have never seen the light of day on American TV due to either a seizure panic or content considered too politically incorrect to air for children due to the difference of cultural norms between America and Japan. These episodes may be worth checking out just to see what 4Kids was too hesitant to broadcast on TV. Otherwise, children won't mind watching it since the series was geared for younger audiences in the first place. As for me, I'm not setting foot anywhere near the series. Sadly the only positive thing I can say about this is that the first season wasn't bad. The original Pokemon actually wasn't that bad but now.. it is pathetic with a capital P. Ash is a dude who catches Pokemon and fights. Thats about it. See the reason why the first season wasn't bad is because it wasn't as repetitive. Now heres how it goes. Ash fights someone, then he runs into team rocket, they are in a machine, he tells his Pikachu to use an electric attack but oh no its electric proof. After the 50th time of it being electric proof why would you keep trying to attack it with electric attacks? Also the characters apparently have an IQ of 10. Team Rocket wears the lamest discuises ever. Once they put on glasses and a new costume and Ash didn't know it was team rocket. I mean come on! The fighting is repetitive, very. It goes like this "Use Thunderbolt!" "Use Thunderbolt!" "Use Thunderbolt!". Have variety for heavens sake! With the poor acting,stupid characters,boring fights,and annoying villians I can't be too nice about Pokemon. Note: the review below is from having seen this in the bastardized English version. I've now seen a few episodes in Japanese and I think that the Japanese version is more intelligent (imagine that) and the names are different (Misty is actually Kasumi). However, unless you understand Japanese and can import those DVD's, it is impossible to get an accurate translation in the states as 4Kids will not allow it (as I understand it). Since I've seen WAY to many episodes of Pokemon, I figured I'd write a review. This is a kid's show and as such is written for kids. Based off of the card game of the same name, Ash (Satoshi) is a boy who wants to be the best pocket monster trainer ever. He soon aquires the KAWAII pikachu who won't go into the storage ball, so rides on Satoshi's shoulder. As he travels, he meets Misty (Kasumi) and another guy who team up with him. Opposing him are Team Rocket with Jesse (Musashi, voiced by Hayashibara Megumi) and James, who want pikachu. It has been a while since I saw anything new so I've no idea if that's still true or not. Bottom line: kids will love it but that's about it. It is watchable if you want to watch it with your kids, just make sure to have your backup intelligence circuits on standby! ;-) Update: I managed to catch the first six episodes, unedited and in Japanese. Twas an eye-opening experience. Heck, I even laughed during the first episode and chuckled in the 2nd one, something I never did for the 4Kids version. Truthfully, I don't really like the story line that belongs to this show. But everyone has probably seen the show, and probably even has a favorite pokemon. It's kind of hard not too. Some like power, or go by cuteness, or raritey. It doesn't seem to matter what age you are, everyone probably loves ONE of these adorable (Or fierce, depending on you)creatures. For me? The legendary birds and the Mew-duo are probably the coolest thing, for me. My mom ... Pikachu (probably for a lot of people too). Overall, the battles are pretty well done even if you watch the edited versions. Look at it this way, more people watch it for the creatures than the story line. Only watch if you like the creatures, otherwise, it's childish and pretty boring. The movies are alright, if again, you just watch for the creatures. I think alot of you just need to grow up, and I'm not talking about the people who like Pokemon. "OMG! Don't watch this! It's for kids!" Ok, then why aren't you people watching it? You sure sound like kids. Truth is, this anime is good, not bad, but certainly not the WORST anime. Dragon Ball Z holds that dishonor. The oringinal Dragon Ball was better, it at least had a consistant plot and the non Saiyians were not throw around in the plot like rotting trash. Pokemon is very similar to Dragon Ball, average animation but good when it needs to be, the characters act like PEOPLE instead of cookie cutter, Jessie, James, and Meowth are the Pilaf, Shoe, and Mai of the series. I could go on with similartes but no time for that. If you're gonna shun Pokemon as for kids, what the heck are you doing watching cartoons, much less writing a review for it on the net anyway? The new Pokemon anime, Advance Generation, more than makes up for that HORRIBLE Johto Journeys arc. At least it follows the games, the animation is better, and it's plot is more consistant. Jessie and James are beaten to an inch of their life by a poacher, and get this, it ISN'T done in a silly way. Respect level of this anime goes up 4 points. Too bad it's not based off the more violent manga. See a Nidoking getting it's eye poked out and an Arbok getting sliced in half was never sweeter. Yeah, I was suprised too. The animation only gets a "?" rating only because in some episodes it sucks, and in others you'll be wondering where the hell all this animation came from. Also 4Kids shouldn't be dubbing this. Look at what they did to my poor YuGiOh. Ugh.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I'm not proud to say that I have actually seen Pokemon, but yes, unfortunatly I have seen a few episodes... and that's all I need to see. This would be a great anime if only one thing was different... it would be great... IF I WAS 9 YEARS OLD!!! But I'm not, so I have to give this sad excuse for an anime the lowest rating I have ever given out. And trust me, I'm being generous.

This is a good anime for very young children and thats about it. I actually got into pokemon about two months before pokemon red/blue hit the U.S. That game is one of my all time favorite gba games. Unfortuneately the TV series and everything else released for it really makes the whole franchise ridiculous. The story is almost non-existent and gets old very quickly. Catch all the pokemon. I started to dislike the series pretty much right when the anime came out but i would still recommend the original gameboy games to anyone who like rpg games. Every pokemon game released after the initial two games are basically clones of the original and as such very boring if you have played the previous games.

Seriously, if u are older than 12 and still like this series, I really think u are insane. I can tell what's going to happen for almost every single episode after watching a few---so old ploteed, and so old-style. Yes, there are various kinds of pokemons and fighting strategies, but to the extreme, they're all repetitive. It might be fun for kids and bored ppl, but besides its idea of "friendship," I'm wondering if there is anything else worth watching. I love this series! It's so cute! The dub...well it isnt that bad.But I can't stand some of the songs(the english Poké-rap for example) And Kenji became...Tracey...;__; The original is so much better. The japanese openings is really great in all ways and the BGM is REALLY great! And the voices are wonderful! Nothing beats Megumi Hayashibara as Fushigidane. It's so much cuter than Bulbausaurs voice *shrudders* The animation have become much better lately.The Pocket Monsters Advance Generation season looks really nice this far. When this show first came out, it was good and everyone loved it. Now, this show is stupid. The characters are boring, stupid and unrealistic. Brok or whatever his name is always seem to like every single girl he sees and Misty has a problem with it, which I don't understand what. And the most dumbest thing in that show is that there's Joys and Jennys all over the world that looks and sounds exactly the same. Very clithe. Team Rocket got to be dumbest villains in the world. They can't even catch a freakin' Pikachu. I could go on about how stupid this anime is. This series should of ended after Ash lost the Indigo Stadium. That way this series would of ended as a classic and not as some dumb kids show like it is now.

Let me list the good and bad things about this series. Good: It brought a lot more anime to America. Some of the characters are interesting. A few of the epidodes are entertaining. Bad: Team Rocket, the most annoying villians in anime history. At the beginning of every episode we know who is going to win. The music is annoying... very annoying. I wish they had developed the characters more. Other than that, I really don't have anything to say.

First off I gave the music a 1 because of the Pokemon Rap song!! Now onto the review. Well what can I say about Pokemon besides it makes me want to go and run off a cliff. It would be less painful then watching the show, might be more fun too. If someone in the room starts watching this show do one of two things; destroy the TV that it's on, it will never be the same again, second kill the person watching it and help stop the spread of this evil show.

That show that is driving parents insane across the country. while at the same time leaching money out of their wallets like a vampire at a bloodbank. We keep hoping it will end but it never seems to. It looks like this ones gonna last for a bit. But as it goes for horrible cult inducing shows this isnt that bad, not violent, no adult situations, and very goodfor people who are at a very young age and interested in anime, therwise this is well lame, annoying, and a source of waste of money across the nation (except the vedeo game those are fun!)

Okay, I know I'm probably too old to be watching this show, but I honestly like it. In case you can't tell, this is a kids' show and not meant to cause any deep thought, and if you go in expecting this then you'll find a very enjoyable series. Unlike a lot of anime, this series is more episodic and more accessable than something like Gundam Wing or Dragonball Z. All of the Pokemon are simply too cute to hate, and Pikachu is actually a well developed character (even more amazing when you realize he can only say his name with various degrees of inflection). Some have said the characters are annoying, but I just think they have tons of personality. The bumbling Team Rocket is especially hilarious (and I love Meowth). The dubbing is actually pretty good, and the writing is incredible when you realize how many puns then squeeze into the show without you realizing it. The animation isn't the best in the world, but it gradually gets better throughout the series, and you always have the movies. On a whole, Pokemon is a very funny anime that doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. Oh, and by the way, Pikachu and Pokemon kick Augumon and Digimon's ass. Well, it looks like I'm one more in the list that talks about Pokemon. Why is this serie so popular. First we have to look at it's creator, Satoshi Taijiri, the one who create the Pocket Monsters for Nintedo. His main idea was to give to the modern kids an opportunity to be able to have something to take care of, the Pokemon. So, Pokemon, the TV series adds some action to the modern kids life, living in the middle of a boring city, specially for a kid, could be really stressing, Ash is like a super-heroe, he lives alone, travles around the world, has danger and excitement in his life, just the kind of kid that all children found cool. Also the Pokemeon are really nice characters, for example the well-known Pikachu. If you're looking for a good animation, whit lots of fun then this is for you. Maybe the only bad thing about Pokemon is that the argument is a little weak, yeah cool to be the greatest Pokemon trainer, but it's not enough, they could have used some more powerfull bad guys (of course, using also Jessie and James, great characters), the only powerfull-bad-guy is Giovanni, the team Rocket leader, but it does'nt appear so much, so it can be considered as a character. Pokemon is a great Kodomo, which can also be fun for a bigger audience, unless you're looking for a complicated story like in other series. Last updated Monday, August 21 2000. If you are looking for a great anime for little kids this one is great, it has a story line geared to the 10 and under crowd it will even draw in you parents with the cute little tales for those of you who are atracted to the useually more in depth storylines of anime this one is probably not for you although my roommate got so into the story he started playing the card and video game (now all the neighbor kids come over to talk and trade pokemon.) and he is 20.

This is a great anime for kids! It has net characters and I really like Ash. They could put a little more romance between Ash and Misty in the US version though! It doesn't have the best art but on the other hand it's not bad. Team Rocket is cool and all but there theam get a little old! I would sujest it for anyone with kids, or if your just a big kid at heart! P.S. The movie is really cute and there are surprisingly emotional parts in it! I liked it a lot! The Anime isn't very good, but character emotions and the plots are very good. The music always goes along with the current event, but they use the same music in different episodes. Also, in the first few episodes, one character James'(Kojiro's) voice actor really didn't match his character. But now it's perfect. Other than that, I love this T.V show!

Darn it all, it's all just so cute. You don't know how much criticism I get for liking this show, but it's addicting and it's cool. Though aimed at a younger audience and holding a lot of values (preaching courage, determination, and the like), this show also appeals to older kids... like meeh! =P And if you can get your hands on the Japanese version, you'll see just how versatile Hayashibara Megumi is -- she voices Pokemon as well as Team Rocket's Jesse (Musashi)!
