Art, Animation and Character Design The art seemed to have improved over the first. The animation was average and the character designs were as expected. Mahoro is still uber cute here! Music The OP was nothing special. It was a soft piece and not too interesting but did work for the opening credits. Series and Episode Story Here's another series of fun. This time around, we get a lot more action and a deeper involving plot. Still, that's not to say that you don't have your few fillers and ton of ecchi moments. There's plenty of laughs to be had as well. In episode 1, I about died cracking up with laughter after watching Shikijyou (sensai), perversely gyrating her body around from looking at the nudie centerfold. The plot really took off about half way through the series as things started getting serious between factions. Again, a good ending to a great anime. Overall, it's another buy for sure. If you want a well rounded anime with a bit of everything, including a good plot, it's for you. Last updated Thursday, March 05 2009. Created Thursday, March 05 2009. |
After seeing the first series, and thoroughly enjoying it, I picked this one up hoping for more of the same. I definitely got more!||||||||

The first half of the series is devoted mostly to filler as viewers are introduced to a new character, Minawa. Her character seems like your run-of-the-mill cute anime gal playing younger sister to Mahoro throughout the fillers. But her search for human feelings plays a part for her character, especially with her connections to Management. The first half is devoted mostly to humor and the natural progression of Suguru and Mahoro's life which was found in the first season. There were some episodes that had me chuckle such as the town's "martial arts festival" and I liked the added touch of including holiday celebrations like Christmas to the mix. Unfortnately, the fan service from the first season also returns meaning langerie shots and bath scenes featuring Mahoro and teenage girls are still abound. Not to mention the return of oversexed teacher Shikijou-sensei who I still think is a waste of a character in this series. The second half of the series is where Management finally makes its presence felt on Mahoro and Suguru's peaceful life as their intervention not only helps push their relationship forward, but brings along one plot twist after another as sacrifices are made to prevent Management from having their own influence with humanity's future. The second-to-last episode features a climax that could have fittingly been done as the final episode of the series. Instead, the real final episode features an ending for Suguru that is quite abrupt, especially since the fates of most of the other characters in the series are not looked into and a deus ex machina comes along to try forcing a better ending for the series. The final episode will be a love it or hate it deal for fans of the series. The art in the series is up a notch with brighter colors and smoother detail, though there is no noticeable change in the character designs and the music. Mahoromatic's second season is an improvement over the first one and provides a second half that will keep you watching to the end if you can put up with the filler episodes and pointless fan service. I'll give this season some credit. After the filler of the first half, the second half gets you hooked into your seat for one plot twist after another as Management tries to prevent a potential union between Vesper and Saints, their wrath even including Mahoro and Suguru as their bond develops.||||||||

Man, I guess Gainax thought Mahoromatic wasn't ecchi enough because they add more of said content in episode 1. And Shikijo-sensei is still lusting after underaged Suguru-san and other boys his age (and these are junior high school students). Suguru-san's female classmates are all shown nude as well, so I guess the lolicon crowd should be pleased. Still, the charm and humor of the original are here and that's good. In fact, if it weren't for the ecchi content, this would be a "buy" title for me. Mahoro-san is as charming as May was from Hand Maid May, though Mahoro's experience make her more mature. While reviews at other places have complained about the "filler" episodes, I liked them. The main plot isn't forgotten during these fillers, but the fun episodes are the slice-of-life episodes and seeing Mahoro-san experience Chrismas, New Years, spring, etc. was such a joy for me. When Minawa-chan calls her "oneechan", I laughed seeing Mahoro's shiver of delight. Speaking of Minawa-chan, her addition to the family was nice. Her ultra shy nature made her adorable and it was understandable why one of Sugura's male classmates fell for her. Still, she kind of gets dropped toward the end. We do get to see her in episode 13 and know she's doing well, but I would have liked her to have been a part of episode 14 too. But that's a minor issue. There were problems for me beyond the ecchi factor. "Management" (I'm not sure about that translation, but it is the one Pioneer used so...) left me puzzled. I mean, what exactly was their purpose in the war between Saint and Vesper? Then there was the Saint character who's introduced late -- Leesha. She's not explored very much and her reason for showing up seemed to be to give a twist to the Saint/Vesper conflict. The revelation of Matthew left me scratching my head too. The final episode is PURE Gainax though, but not a mind smeg like EVA was. To be honest, I would have liked there to have been more episodes that take place during this time, which happens many years after episode 13 and has Sagura as an adult. It would have been neat to actually see the various characters as adults. We get to see one character, and her arrival is explained, but her final remark actually suggests she's something more that we thought. So that left a question in addition to other questions I had as the story attempted to wrap things up. Still, it was a good episode. Bottom line: this is too ecchi for me to own, but if you don't mind that, this is a really good title with a lot of laughs, a lot of story, and a lot of fun.Last updated Tuesday, October 12 2004. In the final volume, the mood gets darker in a hurry and events move rapidly towards a crisis. Management is indeed a quite dangerous adversary, though it's difficult to keep track of all the details of what it intends to do. It's strange how the series bounces back and forth between comedy and tragedy, yet somehow it works. The final episode is the jewel in the crown, so to speak; nobody should declare Mahoromatic good or bad without seeing this one. It's very cathartic--Mahoro continues to exist, in an unexpected way, and Suguru turns back from the dark path he has been following. It helps if, like me, you never developed a dislike of him for being "boring". He gets plenty of charachter development in this single episode, and the net effect is a sweet, happy ending that left me feeling good. Mahoromatic wasn't just another "maid fetish" show, not by a long shot. My favorite line: "This can only mean one thing--Suguru is a Chick Magnet!" --Grandpa 7/04 Last updated Friday, February 29 2008. Created Monday, April 12 2004. |
"Oh God!" I exclaimed about three minutes into the opening episode as Ms. Shikijo performed a damn near unbelievable bit of comedy fanservice. What I meant, of course, was God Bless you, Ms. Shikijo--you remain my favorite charachter. Nevertheless, having seen the first nine episodes, my impression is that M:SMB started off kind of slow--like the original series. A truce of sorts is in effect between Saint and Vesper, but yet another secret organization, "Management", has been introduced. Management seemed to be above and beyond S & V, and why it was necessary to the plot initially escaped me, but of course I hadn't seen the concluding episodes. The episodes of the second DVD, 5-9, are largely episodic with little long-term plot development, but that's okay because some of them are pretty good! I liked the "Hiryu Dark Martial Arts Festival", in which an entire city pretty much goes insane for an evening, fighting with soft foam weapons. Best of all was the next episode, in which Suguru's Grandfather drops by and encounters the bizarre lifestyle his Grandson has developed (did I mention that Grandpa is a bit bizarre himself?). As you may or may not know, Mahoro's irreplaceable android batteries are running down, and she does not have long to go. The word was that her fate would be handled in a charachteristically unconventional Gainax manner. I didn't know whether to look forward to seeing this or dread it...||||||||
