July 1, 2020 was Mizuho Nishino's 17th birthday, but she didn't have a very good day. She dared to confess her affection to Saito, a handsome member of the school's swim team, but was rejected. Mizuho had grown up with four male friends in the Koigahama Highlands neighborhood, Airu, Shugo, Shin and Kizuki. She had always thought of them as just friends, almost siblings, not potential romantic interests. She saw Kizuki (second from right, above) as the 'baby' of the group, but on this day he confesses his love to her, complicating her problems. "I know you'll fall in love with me" Kizuki predicts, then kisses her.

Episode one lays out the basic problem: the guy Mizuho is interested in isn't interested in her, and a guy Mizuho isn't interested in is interested in her. But somehow I didn't feel much excitement about this situation building within me. I suspect it's the usual problem with drama anime, namely the characters haven't been introduced well enough and given enough personality for me to be concerned with their personal affairs. Mizuho has grown up with four brother-like male friends, and is turned down (not cruelly by any means) by the guy she likes--but other than that about all we know about her is that she'll be a worker in the big city (possibly a mangakka) a few years from now. About all we know about Kizuki is that he is also on the swim team and Mizuho saw him as a 'crybaby'. I can't even think of much else to mention in this review. Mizuho sees Kizuki as so not romantically interesting that she at first thinks he's making fun of her when he hints at his affection. As a result I am not looking forward to more of this story and will probably not watch it.
