Isaku Senagaki's parents were killed in an auto accident when she was five, and she was taken in by her grandfather Tasuke, who happens to head the Senagaki Gumi yakuza gang. Keiya Uto, around eleven years her senior, was assigned to her as her 'caretaker'. Keiya vowed to serve as her missing father, mother and even a brother, and Isaku has come to vaguely love him. Still, as she begins high school she would like to live an ordinary life and has chosen a school far from home where no one has heard of her connections to organized crime. But she finds that distancing herself from Keiya will be more difficult than she had expected.

The series Bakuman gave the impression that getting a manga made into an anime was extremely difficult and a great accomplishment. But the impression I get from each new season of anime is that the anime industry will in fact often take whatever they can get to fill the gaps. One fairly common technique seems to be to use new manga which are basically copies of older ones. The premise of Ojou- seemed familiar right from the start, and that was because it has basically been done before, in the form of The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting. About the only difference is that main character Isaku is old enough that she might actually become romantically involved with the handsome thug who watches over her. Perhaps teenage girls would get a thrill out of such a premise, like boys do from harem situations, but I did not. We are apparently supposed to be amused by the turns of events that occur here, like Keiya turning up at Otowa High School, but they were actually quite predictable which is the diametrical opposite of what it takes to make a person laugh. Anyway, I only watched one episode of The Yakuza's Guide-, and it still seemed like a better show than this.
