Fruits Basket: The Final
This third season of Fruits Basket (2019) adapts the remaining six volumes of the manga, continuing from the cliffhanger of its second season with Kureno and Tohru's encounter. This season helps shed more depth on Akito's characters and Shigure's motives for breaking the curse. It also contains the last bits of major developments for Tohru, Kyo, and Yuki's characters as they come of age and come to terms with what futures they want for themselves. The strong character development featured from Fruits Basket is retained for its major characters. However, this season did feel a bit rushed at points compared to the prior two seasons as it appears due to the more shorter episode span of this season, the anime winded up having to condense, change, and remove key points of character and story development for major and supporting characters from the manga. This doesn't affect things too heavily with the developments of major characters, but some supporting character story focus and development got cut out from the anime as a result of this, most notably a story arc exploring the past of Tohru's mother, Kyoko. The experience can be a little jarring for fans of the prior two seasons of the Fruits Basket reboot, since both took their time with exploring and developing major and supporting characters within the series to have audiences connect with them and were closely similar to how events in the manga played out beyond minor changes. Beyond this issue, The Final still makes for a worthwhile finale to Fruits Basket and should be worth checking out for the most part for those who wanted a fully adapted anime adaptation of Natsuki Takaya's hit shoujo series.
