The All-Star Tournament is a three-day event that allows e-sports participants from various professional clubs to display their skills, while also giving casual Glory players the chance to interact with pros in the flesh. Retired top-tier Glory player Ye Xiu agrees to watch the tournament together with Tang Rou and Chen Guo after the latter manages to get ahold of three tickets. It is a strange sensation for Ye Xiu, as unlike previous occasions, this time he attends the tournament as a spectator, not a participant. However, despite his attempts to keep a low profile, events in the All-Star Tournament may force the former Glory legend back into the limelight.

(All three episodes watched)

I quickly noticed that character designs look slightly different than in season one--the difference is slight (most characters are still recognizable), but noticeable. I was amused at the sponsor of the All-Stars tournament--McDonald's appeared numerous times during season one of QZGS. One thing I noticed during episode one was that this felt like a break from the main plot--this wasn't really about Ye Qiu's adventures, as season one had been, it was seemingly more about the supporting characters. I guess that was only to be expected--ONAs probably aren't as accessible as the episodes of the main series, and when season two finally comes about the makers wouldn't want there to be a big chunk of the story missing from the perspective of many viewers. On the other hand, if I'm not reading too much into this, Ye Qiu, who as I understand it hopes to become a professional gamer again in a year or so, can't help noticing several players of his generation getting taken down by newcomers. It can't be fun to see his old character, Autumn Leaf, now under the control of someone else. I got a laugh out of the instant in episode two when it looked like mere spectator Ye Qiu was going to get dragged into the competition. The end of the episode (and episode three)featured a sort of art gallery of numerous depictions of the cast of QZGS in all sorts of different styles. Early on I had thought that this would be little more than a few filler episodes, but in the end it was pretty neat. The main story didn't really get underway until episode two, but it ended in a cathartic manner in episode three. Ultimately Ye Qiu gets involved and it happened in a fairly plausible manner. A significant part of the overall plot seems to have taken place here after all. I seldom watch more than half an hour's worth of any sort of anime at a time, even movies, but I watched all three episodes of this back to back.
