Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru
Run with the Wind is another entry in the sports genre of anime revolving around a ragtag group of male college students organized by fourth-year student Haiji Kiyose to create a track team to qualify for a famous relay marathon race called the Hakone Ekiden. At a glance, the series seemingly focuses around the typical tropes of sports anime with the characters learning to better interact with one another, improving their capabilities at the sport they are in, and participating in races as the underdogs. However, what allows the series to be worthwhile to check out is the relatable character drama involving all the members of the Kansei team as each undergo their varying struggles, come from different walks of life, and are shown to gradually improve themselves as they overcome their personal flaws, given viewers some connection to their growth. The human drama makes the tribulations of the Kansei team more immersive when they eventually start to compete in races and gives it additional depth that many sports anime typically struggle to implement within their titles. Overall, I was quite entertained with this implementation and I would strongly recommend anyone check it out at least once as it is one of the better sports anime titles I've seen in recent years.
