Handa-kun serves as a spinoff to Barakamon to focus on the high school life of the titular calligrapher. The series plays out no differently from your typical high school gag comedy with Handa dealing with the bizarre quirks of his classmates and fearing them while oblivious to his popularity. Your mileage will certainly vary with how well the humor appeals to you, but it certainly didn't catch my interest and I'm in no rush to rewatch it anytime soon.

(One episode watched): What with the willingness to break down walls and make fun of itself and the anime industry in general, my first impression of this show was that it ought to be unique, be pushing the envelope, and in general be much better than the average anime comedy. Which is why I was disappointed with what I actually got. The show seemed unfocused; I didn't understand the basic premise, stated above, until I read it elsewhere, which left me confused. Despite the opportunity which the we-know-we're-an-anime setup presented, the jokes weren't anything special. While I would have liked nothing more than for this to have been a witty and clever show, I was unimpressed as I watched and found myself eager for it to be over.
