Mostly a bonus treat for Urusei Yatsura fans, only Inaba the Dreammaker has any sort of relevance as it reveals how Shinobu eventually meets up with and hooks up with her official lover, Inaba, who cameoed from The Final Chapter movie. Otherwise, the majority of these are structured no differently from a typical TV episode of the series, albeit with slightly better visuals, and the final two episodes are merely clip shows that are mostly skippable.

A mixed bag of fun with the Urusei Yatsura cast. The best of the lot is probably OAV#1, "Inaba the Dreammaker," an hour-long special in which Shinobu finally meets her dream guy. "Ryoko's September Tea Party" and "Scrapbook of Memories" are basically clip shows. Most of the others are half-hour stories which could easily have been TV show episodes, with slightly higher art and animation quality. Some of the character designs have been tweaked a bit; the characters look more like early Ranma than UY, and Ataru looks a bit beefier than he does in the TV series. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you.)

Bottom line: If you like the TV show (after the first season, anyway), you should like the OAV's.
