The final movie in the original Yamato film series has the typical elements you can expect of the franchise with yet another alien threat for the crew to confront that is directing a planet towards Earth to flood the latter's surface. On the plus side, the visuals to the movie are the best of the film series with cleaned up details, more polished colors and decently animated space battle scenes. However, the film still carries Matsumoto's trademark issues with many of his animated works which I've ranted to death about up to this point. Here's a hint: drama is more effective when you develop the characters enough to make the audience feel for them instead of having characters without depth killed off just for the sake of forced drama. As usual, Yamato and Matsumoto fans will likely be drawn to this. As for me, I'm finally glad to be done with the movie set I got of this months ago.
