As the summary covers, Overture to a New War pretty much serves as an expanded version of the first two episodes to Legend of the Galactic Heroes by adding in additional plot elements with Yang and Reinhard. In Yang's case, there is a side plot where he worries for the well being of a friend among the Alliance's military ranks who is engaged to be married. For Reinhard, the movie explores how he winded up in the battle that he becomes entangled with against Alliance forces for the mentioned two main series episodes. The Reinhard story is nothing new considering LoGH fans would likely already be familiar with the amount of corruption he deals with regularly from the Empire's nobility who conspire to off him at any chance possible. The Yang one adds some dimension to the man's character as he seemed to be dealing with romantic developments earlier before he reunited with Frederica from his days on El Facil. Beyond this, there isn't much else to really say. The movie retains the animation and trademark classical musical pieces and orchestral scores you would expect out of the franchise. Diehard LoGH fans are likely to want to check this out if they are looking for expanded details to one of the first major battles that took place between Reinhard and Yang.
