Lots of gun action, a dull story full of cliches, no space to develop any character ... this one is like the James Bond movie that didn't make it. A total loss of time - lucky me who watched it on TV only. Last updated Thursday, December 16 2004. Created Sunday, June 08 2003. |
Basically, I agree with Dingle's review - and that's the problem, actually.||||||||

This has some great art and a great plot, I guess I just wasn't impressed by what they did with the plot in the end, it was a bet cheesie and I think they really could have done better! It is worth seeing once!

the story was a bit lacking, and the little blue kid w/ psychik powers remindes you of akira, otomo's influence no doubt, but the beautiful animation and action makes up for the story's shortcommings. this is definately an anime you'll want to own! overall,i was quite happy w/ this one! i'm a big fan of realy good, technical animation and spriggan definatly owns up. the characters design was interesting, though a bit chunky, and the faces were odd. but the animation... oh,lord it was great,smooth, and the movement was great, ie. the chase through istanbul.||||||||

Spriggan, directed by Hirotsuge Kawasaki was one of the most hyped animes in recent momory. Because of the massive hype surrounding Spriggan, I bought it with high hopes. Unfortunately, it is not as good as ADV would have us believe. With only 1/3 as many cels as the oft-compared Akira, The creaters try to camoflage the disappointingly mediocre animation with a hyper-kinetic pace, but merely succeed in making a rather obnoxious Bond rip-off. The characters are decidedly flat-looking, with too little detail or shading. Some nice action sequences are worth checking out, though, which is what this movie is all about. Luckily an interesting story involving true purpose of Noah's Ark saves Spriggan from its technical shortcomings. The idea of the Ark as an ancient super computer is brilliant and unique. The writers provide an interesting background between Spriggan and Fat Man, and the betrayal by Spriggan is well executed (heh). I can't give Spriggan a buy, because of its over-hype (which other reviewers appear to buy into) and unremarkable animation. Still, I encourage veiwers to rent and enjoy it. But unlike the similar Read or Die, I'll probably never watch Spriggan a second time. 5-26-02 Last updated Sunday, May 26 2002. Created Sunday, May 26 2002. |
Claiming to have been inspired from the final shot in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa created a manga (comic book) about a Secret Society which collects the world's dangerous paranormal artifacts. Their opperatives are called Spriggans. 1998's ||||||||

Ok I came into this whith probably unrealistic expectaitons and was disapointed. I had friends telling me this was the end all, beat all, best out there. WRONG. That said it is like going to a james bond flick. Not alot of plot just a lot of shooting and cool moves. I love that stuff, I guess I just wasn't looking for that in this movie. This thing looks more like a carbon copy american action flick, and really nothing like ||||||||

Akira. Betiful animation but not as much action as people had told me it would be. There is a lot of action going on though but it is not a pure action movie at all. Still very much a worthy buy and one of the best anime movies I've ever seen. Go ahead.

Akira was released and became the greatest anime to be realesed in America to date. Many others like Ghost in the shell and Mononoke Hime tried but never got there. But now there is a movie from the very creators of Akira that could surpass the 1989 classic and it is Spriggan! Spriggan is based upon a manga of the same name that has been translated as Striker in the US. The movies plot is kind of generic and if the animation had been anything less it would have been a flop. But the animation is nothing sort of magnifecent and the soundtrack is superb so the movie is damn good action flick. Its not that hard to tell that the movie is inspired by American action movies. While watching the movie I saw elements taken from great american action movie series like Indiana Jones,James Bond,and Rambo made into an Akira like movie. The first half is James Bond like spy triller that involves archeological relics and paramilitary warfare. After the 40 min point the movie becomes just like Akira. Some people say the movie is bad becaues it trys to copy Akira. Akira never had as much intenes action as Spriggan has. With great animation and action Spriggan is a must see. See it at all costs when it comes to theaters or buy it on video.

This is a good action movie. Little story, but lots of nice eye candy. I liked this movie because it did not try to go deep. To many movies like this try to be meaningful, but they do not have any substance. ||||||||
