Satsuki and Keiichiro move into a new town from Tokyo. Together with their father, they move back into the home town that their parents met. In fact, they attend the old elementary school that their parents taught at (Father-teacher, Mother-Principal). But this school holds a secret, a long time ago it was haunted by a bunch of ghosts, Satsuki's mother (a Miko) sealed them all away into the trees in the hills above, but developers have destroyed all the trees, freeing the ghosts. They return to the only place they called home, the elementary school, and to take revenge on the girl who bears the name and face of the person who banished them, Satsuki.

Note : ADV completely reworked the script. They took out almost all Japanese references and replaced with an entire American script. Example Momoko (The local Miko) is a Jehova Witness (who believes in Jesus & Ghosts) and Leo (computer expert) is a Jewish Star Trek nerd. This disk features 3 Subtitle tracks, Original Japanese Script, Limited Titles, or New ADV Script.

Big Note: The new script is very racist, sexist, perverted and pretty much as Politically Incorrect as it comes. They frequently break the 4th Wall (wiki) and portray 10 year olds as a bunch of undersexed College students. If you are offended by racist jokes, do not watch this.

Ghost Stories is more known among American fans for ADV's completely new script to it. Basically, the original series is a cliched and quite often contrived children's horror series that wouldn't have worked out here in the states if ADV stuck with it and I couldn't survive past the first episode of the original version with how it was. ADV's new take on the series retains the basic storyline and character elements of the original version, but adds in quite a bit of profane and racial humor, pop culture nods and occasional rips into the fourth wall. Unfortunately, the novelty of ADV's new dub wore out for me after the first several episodes of the show as it seemed to me like ADV was trying too hard to make this cliched show worthwhile. While I did get some laughs in later episodes off ADV's new dub, they might have been better off just leaving this show unlicensed as there is only so much that can be done to make something unwatchable to many folks worthwhile.

Yes I found it. I'm excited because quite a few years ago this was out and I really wanted to watch more. Because it is good. Not for kids though but more on the mature variety like Mid School and up. But it is On Veoh and you can watch some of the episodes. It is scairey in a funny way and I think an enjoyable watch. I can't wait to watch more episodes.

What do you do when you are stuck with a ↗white elephant that you just can’t sell off on Ebay?

Well, ADV was stuck with this title and they decided to paint it pink and neon green, with dayglow glitter and sparkles. The end result of their efforts is not pretty, but dern, it’s very silly and funny looking.

Like Forbin mentioned, I really don’t know what the script rewriting team was smoking, but they took a page from ↗MST3000 and rather than offend their anime fans with a mediocre script, they decided to offend anyone and everyone who might take themselves too seriously.

Politically correct? Sacred and revered? Gays and straights? Republican and Democrat? Bahh!!! The scriptwriters are opportunistic and predatory satirists who tried to find something to offend everyone.

If you get a chance to watch the first 10 episodes, then do it – it is worth a BUY rating. After about episode 12, the jokes and humor begins to go flat and stale, so I can only offer a RENT rating for the entire series.

Now granted that it out of print and no longer available (except on EBAY perhaps), but its still well worth a quick watch – if only for some of the skanky jokes and deliciously nasty humor that they manage to slip into the dialogue.

You know when I picked this up I was thinking, 'Oh this is a scary title.' After watching I was like 'WTF? How they heck do they know about Fox TV?'

So I did some research and realized that ADV thought the original Script sucked so much that they just took the staff of Full Metal Panic (Minus Chidori) gave them some Cheetos and a whole bunch of Cocaine, and said 'If It fits the lip flap and it's funny, we go for it!'. In one scene the word (One more) was written in blood and they even got the Subtitle to draw the little blood lines. It was neat!

I was laughing, a lot. I switched to the Japanese track and went, this sucks. So went back to English. This might even earn a BUY because of the redo.

I still wonder about some of the localization jokes. They mention that they should all go to Knotts Berry Farm , but ADV is in Texas and Knotts is next to Disneyland in California.

Favorite Lines
  • 1 : Satsuki - Damn why do all Principals look like lesbians..Looks closer...MOM?
  • 3 : Damn Leo has got a big head. Yeah he makes Chris Patton look humble. (Chris Patton is the VA for Sousuke Sagara)
  • 13: The kids line up to fight a painting ghost. 'Thunder Cats Ho!'
Ok all 20 episodes watched and now I understand why this is 20 episode show (Instead of 24/26). Because after episode 13, the show SUCKED! Even with all the re-engineering ADV did to the script you can tell just by looking that the graphics that they were cancelled midseason and had to put the end out without explaining half of the ghosts they featured.

If this was a real dub, it would be a watch. With the new and improved dub, it is a Rent. It's a low rent, but still a rent. It's very funny and probably will offend most of the people watching it.
