Unless you've either fully played through the video game or have enough knowledge on the source material, then this isn't an anime that you will easily get latched on as Advent Children was made specifically for fans of the video game. All of the major characters from the video game are here and/or mentioned such as Cloud, Tifa, those representing the Shinra Power Company and everyone's favorite One Winged Angel, Sephiroth. The CG animation to this movie was very impressive with high quality renderings of city environments, fluid and intense gravity-defying battle scenes and realistic looking character designs. The orchestral music score from the video game also returns and sounds almost as epic as ever during intense battle scenes. Unfortunately, the movie's story ultimately proves to be this movie's shortcoming. Pacing felt rushed with limited information unveiled about the trio of men wrecking havoc to obtain Jenova's remains and it appeared the action scenes were being used as an excuse to cover up the story's shortcomings. The appearance of other prominent characters who helped Cloud in the video games also felt like an excuse just to include them in the movie, typical of sloppy anime adaptations of video games. Unless you're a diehard Final Fantasy 7 fan clamoring for the movie's action scenes, then I imagine you will be feeling very lost over the nods to events that occurred in the game which will limit any enjoyment you get of Advent Children, especially with the shoddy plotting.

As a Final Fantasy fan (of the game), I was overjoyed with excitement to finally be able to see this. It was just amazingly awesome but.......

Art, Animation & Character Designs
Final Fantasy has always been known (maybe not in their earlier days), for their quality CG and animation. This was no exception. The CG was amazingly, amazingly crystal clear and extremely detailed. You can literally see every little crack and crevice on anything close up. The animation was unbelievably fluid and so velvety. Character designs were not left out. All the characters were well done and stayed true to the look and appearance to the popular FF VII franchise. The lighting effects in some of the scenes was just breathtaking. I was thinking to myself about how possibly long it took to render a scene with so many ambient lighting and all the immense ray-tracing. Amazing!

Music
As expected of Final Fantasy, the music was really good and far above the norm. You had the trademark full blown orchestra-like background music. During battle scenes, it would get really dramatic and intense with plenty of chorus lines and chants. Awesome!

Series and Episode Story
Now you should be informed beforehand that diving into this one, you're expected to already have some knowledge on the FF VII plot and characters. Otherwise, you might get a bit lost and confused. As good as the art, animation, character designs and music was, one would think the plot would be equally as good. But..... it didn't quite do it for me. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't boring or lacked substance, but rather, I might have had higher expectations. The plot itself was good honestly and there was plenty of awesome fight sequences.... especially the battle with Bahamut... wow! However, it just lacked that "umph"! The whole plot was very linear and predictable but still very entertaining.

Overall, it was some serious eye-candy and made for great entertainment. If you're an FF fan, then you'll most likely love this.

So i am a big CGI fan, and i remember playing this game, so i thought i would see what is up. Although very beautiful, i didn't really dig the story as much as i would have liked actually not at all...i gave it an 8 cuz the fighting scenes were incredible and i loved the dude that was just super fast...other than that, i didn't like cloud's motorcycle with 25 swords builtinto it, nor did i like the lack of women...lots of kids, lots of dudes, but like 1 women...i think if you are going to have a world like the final fantasy world, you should include more women...but oh well...can't have everything...all in all, i enjoyed the show, just not enough to give my normal 10's across the board rating...

This is right up there with Ghost in a Shell 2. The artwork is absolutely amazing. There's not alot of realism in this particular movie, what with flying and all and motorcycles and all, but that shouldn't be a problem for you since it's not what they're going for anyway and since it IS a magical world. The fighting and music is just so fluid and really dynamic, dramatic and absolutely wonderful. It's a blend of symphonic orchestra and air guitar and it just..rocks. Heh. Plus, if you wanted to know what went on in the game, there's a short film called Remembering FFVII or something in the main menu so even if you think you don't get something then that gives you at least the background story. The attempts at humor fall a bit short, and there are some things that could have been fleshed out a bit more, but it's alright, not too noticeable. And I wish there had been more screen time for everyone else instead of them just appearing at the end, but that's alright too. This is well worth the buy...even if you only like the Sephiroth/Cloud fight scene. That is AWESOME.

This is a 1 hour and 40 minutes movie, Even though this is a continuation of where the game left off, the storyline doesn't have alot to do the storyline of the game. All the charaters look excatly the same as how they were the game, and the action is superb with amazing graphics. And unlike the last order, if you are a final fantasy fan like me, you have got to watch this and even if you are not watch it anyway cause its an amazing film.
