My favorite line: Pipi: "His heart stopped beating! You're just too much!" Kaguya: "I wouldn't worry. I see plenty of other vital signs." 8/04 Last updated Wednesday, March 12 2008. Created Friday, August 20 2004. |
Until Rei Rei, I had never really gotten into Hentai anime--"fanservice" is about as far as I go. And the only reason I acquired this VHS tape was because it was part of an E-bay set which included some other tapes I wanted. I'd never heard of this title before, and was a little unnerved at the logos "From the erotic manga by Toshimutsu Shimizu" and "an animated comedy for adults only". But they did say it was a comedy, didn't they? Also, sometimes I just like trying out some sort of anime that I know next to nothing about, so it was into the VCR it went. Hmm... I can see why the jacket said "for viewers 18 and over only". There was plenty of fondling of private parts, and some mild intercourse, but it wasn't nearly as explicit as I had feared. Indeed, I was going to categorize it as "ecchi" rather than hentai, until I found another website which listed it under the latter term. Best of all, it really is funny--not a masterpiece, certainly, but I got the impression that the makers paid at least as much attention to the humor as to the sex. I did a little website research the day after I watched the tape, and I get the impression that this is indeed a much more "softcore" form of hentai than is common today. Kaguya is a bit eccentric, weird, and uninhibited, but her objective is to solve people's romantic problems, which she does quite well. The make-up between two estranged lovers in the second episode left me with a warm feeling inside. All in all, I liked it! Though it was supposed to have come from a company called "Softcel", it was pretty obvious from the design of the box that this was an offshoot of ADV. The tape I watched was a "Special Edition" which included a "production portfolio". I thought it was neat the way crude artist's sketches were compared with finished cels in a sort of before-and-after style.||||||||
