"This is kinda funny!" I said to myself while watching episode one. It has a wacky tone (which isn't easy and isn't common) and is genuinely humorous, I thought. Keiichiro has no idea what an I-phone is, for one thing. The reviewers at ANN seemingly gave this show a so-so rating, but if it keeps going the way it has so far I suspect I'll be watching it to the end. Each episode seems to consist of two sub-stories. In the first one Mashiro makes herself useful in a case involving a cheating wife. In the second she misunderstands her instructions to conduct an 'extermination'. I could not help LOLing at one point during this segment. I thought I recognized the character design style but couldn't place it. "This is definitely funny!" was my response to episode two. We see the sort of cases that are typical at the Nagumo/Nakanishi agency: a classmate of Mashiro's who claims that a ghost visits his house each night, Nagumo being suspected of being a panty thief, and Mashiro attempting to defuse a bomb. The bit where Nagumo explains the supposed ghost in a perfectly rational manner, then Mashiro reaches a completely different answer was LOL funny. Most anime comedies have very weak jokes but this show stretches the envelope somewhat. Episode three was OK but didn't deliver any LOLs. Asunaro, another modern teen detective and a longtime admirer of Nagumo, wants to become his apprentice, an idea which Mashiro doesn't like. Episode four is a parody of murder mysteries. It was fun to watch Keiichiro and Mashiro operate on the assumption that everything would go according to stereotypes; and the joke about Phone Cards had me LOL'ing for a good while. Episode five consists of three separate sketches: in the first, Nagumo takes Mashiro to a bar to demonstrate what 'adult' life is like; in the second they get a suspicious offer to solve a case at a remote building; and in the third Mashiro has bought a device that supposedly can detect microphones. No unqualified LOLs this time, but fun nevertheless. In episode six Mashiro organizes a girl's night out get-together, Nagumo and Asunaro switch apprentices, and Nagumo encounters a wanted criminal in a sauna (the joke about the catheter had me LOLing). In number seven Mashiro struggles to prove that she's mature enough to handle black coffee. Last updated Wednesday, August 27 2025. Created Thursday, July 03 2025. |
