Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for romance, but episode one of YtR never took off for me. I noticed the detailed character designs, which is usually indicative of a fairly complex plot and a good deal of character development. I think my lack of interest was because while Yuki is deaf (or near-deaf), other than that she never is given much of a personality. A character has got to do some things or make some remarks that give us an idea of what makes them tick, what sets them apart from everybody else, and Yuki didn't do this for me. At the end of the episode I still felt that I hardly knew her and therefore couldn't care all that much how her budding romance worked out. What was it about her and about Itsuomi that made her take the daring step of asking for his contact info on just their second or third meeting? Likewise, we hear about the remarkable stuff he does but he doesn't say (or think) much and remains largely a mystery. As a result this show never grabbed my interest and I think I will pass.
